Yep, but here's the kicker -- there isn't one note of original music in the entire film. It wasn't until Hateful Eight that he actually hired a composer to accompany the usual samples. It's funny cuz younger folks are actually reacting, (as you pointed out) to the usage of these samples in newer material. But what's lost on them is how obscure all this music was before Tarantino got a hold of it. Transformers, for example, got the sample from Kill Bill! The Ooh Ooh song, yes, was in an annoyjng commercial, but the commercial took it from this! It was unique and cool when we first heard it! Now, all this music is cliché. It's weird to explain to newer fans cuz Tarantino is also sampling, but let's face it... he introduced the music to general audiences.

These two movies weren't just popular films, they were cultural phenomenoms. Arguably the most successful of all films by Tarantino, they reshaped pop culture during the 2000s. You will find countless references to them in music, film, tv and other forms of media. Many things that have become tropes ever since, were originated in this movie, and you will also hear its soundtrack used in many other movies. Kill Bill itself was inspired by the grindhouse explotaition films of the sixties and seventies, that's where its aesthetic comes from. Originally, Tarantino planned a third film to involve Nikki (the little girl from the first scene). He was supposed to film it ten years after this one to allow the actress to grow up. But eventually he lost interest in the project. Can't wait to see your reaction to the second one, really good as well.

Fun fact , what people originally think is the last scene ( the bride getting shot) is actually the first scene, and what they think is the first scene ( showing up to vernita greens house in the pussywagon) is actually the last scene of volume 1 movie which occurs after she kills Oren Ishi, she flies back to the US to drive to vernitas and kill her. The pussywagon is used as a bridge to invert the beginning and the end of the movie.😊 So Tarentino subverts expectations off the bat. And there are little things such as when Oren Ishi says ' you may not last 5 minutes', the subsequent fight scene is 4 minutes 50 seconds until shes dead from when the music starts at the fight.

Ok. Y’all are all wrong. This was not a total Tarantino baby. While filming “Pulp Fiction”, between shots, Quinton and Uma would sit around and talk about how they loved the old 1970’s Spaghetti Western Kung Fu movies, like with Bruce Lee. So they started talking about about things like , “it would be so cool if he did this.” And the other would say, “oh! And what if she did that.” And Uma said, “why give her a name at first? How about if we call her The Bride.” They kept fleshing out the story line throughout Pulp Fiction and Tarantino wrote what they had talked about. That’s why it’s a “Q&U Production.” They used music from the beginning to the mid 1970’s, which is what they were going for anyway. Flight of the Bumblebee is dope! I’m a brass player and that piece scares me to death. While they were scouting locations, they came to a bar where the all girl Japanese group, The 5-6-7-8’s were playing. They were in high heels and then they took them off when they did “The Gong-Gong Song.” Tarantino said that they are going to be in his movie! I’ve got the soundtrack and can sing all of the songs in Japanese. Blake, I know you’re tired bless your heart but stay awake in the films. Lastly, everyone says they love Tarantino film but NO ONE will watch “Four Rooms!” The best of Comedy I’ve ever seen!

Watching this movie for the first time at the cinema when it came out, I remember the opening credits and music coming on and smiling like a total dork thinking to myself, 'I'm about to watch Tarantino!' He's so uniquely awesome! You know you're going to come out not disappointed.

Do you guys agree that the scene at 20:48 where she’s about two slices Achilles tendon looks like a scene from the end of a Saw movie? Slow pacing and the music?

Loves Kill Bill volume 1 and 2. You can see Quentin Tarantino’s love pure into the films as he added many visual references to classic kung fu and Shogun cinemas along with the soundtracks.

Movies entire point is mixture of old kung fu movies and old westerns.. Uma Thurman(protagonist) said to Quentin Tarantino that she wants to make movie like that and Quentin agreed.. this is not just Quentin, its also Thurman. But ye, Quentin is the director so you can see him better.

35:58 this song was used in a "Vonage" commercials back in 00s and Blake is correct, it got annoying because the commercial would be on all the time but this band was used in that commercial because of this movie, haha. And yep, Kobe got his name and icon from this movie. Glad you all are finally getting to this movie, can't wait for part 2 😎 Also, QT and Uma came up with the concept of this movie on the set of another of his movies, "Pulp Fiction."

I adore the premise of this movie. It’s simply about the hero’s journey to revenge, and that sometimes not even a bullet to the head can stop someone from getting justice. It’s this weird mix of a cowboy western, and samurai film in the best way possible.

You were correct about Nikki. They were supposed to be a Kill Bill 3 where Nikki goes after Uma to get revenge. Apparently in one of the drafts, Sophie was supposed to get bills money and she was supposed to help her train or something. We’ve been crossing our fingers hoping it would happen, but I think he said he’s only making one more film.

What you were thinking was "Flight of the Bumblebee" is actually the theme song to the t.v. show the Green Hornet. I think the similarities are intentional. Also, Bruce Lee played Kato on that show.

I loved your reactions. One of my fave movies! The fight with the Crazy 88 was in black and white was out of necessity. In color, it would earn the movie an NC-17 rating in the US. However, some international versions have the fight scene in full color. The Bride's outfit at House of Blue Leaves was indeed inspired by Bruce Lee. The late Kobe Bryant did indeed snag his nickname and symbol from this movie. Since this is your first Tarantino flick, note that in his films, he oftentimes likes to tell events out of order. He also has a foot fetish. I recommend Pulp Fiction and also Reservoir Dogs. His newer flicks, Inglorious Basterds, The Hateful 8 and Django Unchained are also damn good.

I’d recommend Lucky Number Slevin with Lucy Liu, it’s a pretty solid suspense thriller with a great cast. As for Uma, I’d recommend obviously Pulp Fiction, Batman & Robin, My Super Ex Girlfriend, Be Cool and Dangerous Liasons and definitely react to Jackie Brown, Inglorious Basterds and Django Unchained. Also True Romance and Sin City

The scene where the Bride spits in the Ranger's face, was inspired by the true story of Roy Benavidez, a Vietnam-era Green Beret. After a brutal battle, during which he was severely wounded many times, Benavidez was thought to be dead. As he was being zipped into a body bag, he spat blood at the doctor. At the hospital, he was told he'd never walk again. He not only walked again, he returned to full duty on active service, and lived to the age of 63.
