Anthony and Edwina didn’t have real chemistry. Edwina just loved the idea of being married to him because he’s attractive and super rich. With Kate and Anthony, we saw in that first clip of them riding the horses that they liked each other, and although they tried to fight it…..there was obvious chemistry, plus Kate didn’t even know who he was until the first ball of the season.

Penelope's actress played the Barbie who handed out Nobel prizes at the beginning of the Barbie movie! Her role was small because she was filming Bridgerton at the time so there's no wonder you guys don't remember seeing her. What Colin said hurts when you put yourself in Penelope's shoes, but from Colin's perspective of being completely oblivious to her romantic feelings for him, he was singling Pen out from other women in a positive way by saying that while he'd sworn off women she's an exception to that because she's such a dear friend he'd never distance himself from her. It is of course not what anyone wants to hear from someone they're romantically interested in, but however clumsily it was worded it was meant as a good thing.

Yes, very true. She was heartbroken hearing that. Colin didn't know about Penelope's feelings for him but looking at the conversation from both of their perspectives makes you truly understand that what he said wasn't intended to hurt her feelings, but it was actually a high compliment as you said. From her perspective, her heart was aching because she's losing the little hope she might have had left that anything can ever happen between them.

I hope you'll come to like Anthony in the end. You'll see more of his background and it explains some of why he is the way he is. Also to be fair, almost every man in the Ton who's unmarried doesn't treat women well. It's unfortunately a sign of the times and is somewhat expected.

Controversial opinion but while I do love Jonathan Bailey extremely much I always thought that both the other suitors from this episode would have fit better for each sister, Lumley for Edwina and Dorset for Kate. Lumley is a cutie with golden retriever energy and shares Edwina's poetic interest; Dorset will redeem himself from this episode as a calming presence for Kate's temper and shares her mature intellect. As seen in the races, Kate and Anthony are made for the show exaggeratedly as too much the same, two people constantly angry and arguing at each other isn't healthy love.

Gonna point out that in the beginning of the episode Kate tells Edwina that Anthony said he isn't interested in love in a marriage. Note also that Anthony _himself_ says he isn't about love in the poetry reading and is clear on what qualities he _does_ bring to a marriage which is action and duty. Keep in mind that Kate once again tells Edwina that Anthony cannot give her the love she is looking for. He is not offering that. Remember they both make this fact very clear to Kate. Keep in mind that _nobody_ lied to Kate about Anthony's intention. No matter what else they may have lied or kept from her, nobody lied to Kate about Anthony not looking for love.

(Spoiler) Yep, very true. This is why Edwina's argument later down in the season was void to me. She was told multiple times that Anthony wasn't marrying for love, but I guess her naivety, blindness and downright denial of what was right in front of her stopped her from seeing and accepting that because she loved the idea of Anthony not the actual person. I still do feel kind of bad for what happened to her, but I understand all angles of the situation each side respectively.

Ah, back in 2022 when this season came out I was Kate's age, and now watching this vid I'm Anthony's- such an old maid... Unfortunately, Kate would be seen as older than she should be, even though she's still younger than Anthony and still has time to procreate. In part because she should have been taken off the marriage mart sooner if she's desirable... and she is seen as less desirable also because neither of her birth parents were nobility, whereas at least Edwina's mother is (that being said, she's at least still "genteel" and "refined"... no matter what Penelope as Whistledown said about her being a "prickly spinster"... not a Pen fan here) Blake was really rocking Stefan's gel-ed hero hair here. And at 27:17 something about the way he said "ooh" pinged a memory of a film... that I sadly can't identify.
