For the mouse problem, I would recommend a large full size gaming mat (the kind that covers your whole keyboard and mouse work area). Your mouse will work perfectly, and you will reduce wear on the desk surface. It will also give you a nice soft surface to rest your arms and wrists on. I have a standard desk but never regretted buying one of those mats.

Pro decorator here, and your approach with B-I-N primer is absolutely correct. Just use a knackered brush like you said, or a crappy disposable one from a pack in the pound shop. Don't even bother trying to clean them, it's a complete waste of time and products.

Hi Keith. I'm a professional decorator and use zinsser products a lot as they are superb. The best cleaning solution is the proprietary bin cleaner zinsser produce, but best (and cheapest) solution is just store the brush in the tin. My current zinsser bin brush is approximately 2 years old. Really enjoy your vids and if you have any decorating questions/issues don't hesitate to ask and I'll be happy to help. I also live in Norwich.

I'll admit, when I first saw the video title, my first throught was "oh great another maker who got sent a free standing desk frame that they made a video out of adding a top". I am glad I was wrong, another great video! A tip I used for my large desk to allow cables without smashing, I got some rubber feet that have a hole in the middle for a screw, and put two of them along the back edge of the desk, and the took a stick on felt pad to put over it after screwed down. Keeps it away from the way a consistant amount (am I OCD lol) and less likely to mark up the wall from rubbing. Have you thought about doing a video on making your videos? I for one like watching those as I'm just getting back into video editing after 15 years since last doing it.

Love Zinnser bin. Cleaning brushes is fine with Methylated spirits. Just swirl around in a small jar of it, then take out. Will always be some left i the middle of the brush, but when dry is brushes out into a bit of dust afterwards and brush is typically good again. Also can thin BIN with the meth a little which can stop it drying quite so fast. Still fast, but a little more working time. Use BIN on knots all the time to seal before painting.

Now you're using matt paint I'd suggest perhaps giving the walls a coat of decorators varnish. It doesn't change the sheen of the paint too much at all but it really helps with minimising marks on the walls as they now would be wipe clean.

I was already paying a monthly fee for the doorbell, so it wasn't much more for unlimited cameras

Hi Keith, As previously mentioned by Sarah, you can clean your Zinsser brushes with meths, however if you get a suitable container that is airtight, put your brush in there with some meths, wash the brush in the meths, then leave it standing in the meths.I struggled to find a tall enough container, but eventually used a “ Vanish” fabric cleaner container. I managed to buy a short handled brush from Johnstones, which fits perfectly. This method means you can use decent brushes. If you check the brush every month or so, they will stay soft for months if not years 😀

Hello Keith. For Zinnzer brush clean use Meths. In fact, if you have an airtight container that takes the length of brush, leave it in with a little meths so it is ready for use and just pat dry ahead of using, For cutting in get used to using a three inch brush (Purdy are good for this) and just angle the brush away from (say) skirting. You will soon find you get a cleaner edge. Those sash brushes give you a blobby cut in. Same goes for cut in to ceilings etc. Bob ( Somerset) "Where the cider apples grow.

Bubbled up paint is sometimes (when moisture has been ruled out) a simple matter of not fully dusting down the surface before painting. I use my shop-vac and a suitable brush to completely clean the wall to be painted. Since I've started doing this routine before painting, no more bubbles!

If you've only come here for Dylan skip to: 00:15 (you can't catch me out with time lapse that easily); 00:23 (awwww, watch this bit frame by frame, it's properly heart warming); 07:07; 10:35 (Dylan gets bored looking over Keith's shoulder); 11:23 (Dylan is still bored); 12:16 (Dylan on security camera - he's a cat burglar); 12:46 (back to bored Dylan); 12:59 (Dylan's reflection on the monitor. You can't catch me out like that either); 13:09 (Dylan wants to know how much longer you're going to be ignoring him); 13:34 (Dylan being bored from a different angle). Well that makes up for the occasions when Dylan doesn't appear. The office is looking good and I also like that you bin your bin brushes :D

The desk looks great, Keith! Nice work and attention to detail. For any other current or potential Nest Camera users out there, be aware that Google’s latest Nest units are NOT compatible with the older ones, despite being sold under the same name. They use a different app (which isn’t as convenient to use), have no web interface for desktop access, and the image quality also appears poorer, though still quite good. I was dismayed to discover this when I picked up a new one to add to our three existing cameras last week.

@@RagnBoneBrown Hi Keith, thanks for the links, I've now watched all three and I now understand why I've never considered getting into KZbin creation before when I was working full time, travelling up and down the country for work, having three children and now four grandchildren as well. Now I'm retired, its something I've been considering for a little while and had a dabble on Instagram and Facebook but as yet not ventured on to KZbin, I'm not really interested in making money from it but really enjoy the process of making things and DIY in general but it would be really nice to share my experiences with other people. Thanks again for taking the time to reply, having watched these videos I now understand how difficult it must be to keep up with comments and questions. Having retired I thought I would have countless hours of spare time but I'm still finding that there still isn't enough hours in the day. Keep up the great work, but take it from me, Family is the most important thing in your life, so always make time for them over and above everything else, sometimes over the last fourty years I may have forgotten that for a while but find it even more important now I have grandchildren, take care and thanks again.

Cracking looking desk. You gave me a thought when mentioning the issues with the mouse and not quite enough desk space on the 45 degree angle part, why not make that entire angle section out of one large piece of wood? Then there would be no seem for your mouse to struggle with. Anyway great build, really love the double drop leaf file store (I feel an upgrade to my old office desk coming on). Another superb video, the Annke cameras look good too, keep up the good work.

Love the vid sir. Always interesting to see what comes from your channel. An unsolicited thought regarding your sound deadening options if I may? What are your thoughts on "decorating" with tapestries instead of cloth? Finding ones that are intriguing and artistic would add some contrasting colors and visual interest and the pile from the tapestries would help to capture and quiet some of the sound. Anywho, looking forward to future vids. Cheers.

you could ask some woodworker to add that inner corner strip, to get it exactly the way you want :P [or else just get used to it like I got used to my piano X-stand getting in the way for my knees, just kidding :: I will make my own piano stand very soon, as I can't take that X-stand] I like to put the large cutting mat on my desk, so that my sweat is not damaging the wooden top (I live in tropics), and I can cut stuff right on my desk (opening packages and what not) the desk turned out remarkable, and that brass hardware is spot on too

I’ve used a corner desk, the same one, since 1995. My keyboard centered in the inner corner keeps my mouse on its mouse pad. Maybe just get a mouse pad that covers the gap.
