Thanks for the really helpful video. The instructions were very long and confusing. Here's a summary of how to pronounce all the names: Tzolk'in: tsol-keen (the ts is like in the word "cats") Chichen Itza: chee-chen eet-sa Palenque: pah-lane-kay Yaxchilan: yash-chee-lawn Tikal: tee-call Uxmal: oosh-mall Quetzalcoatl (yellow god): ket-sall-ko-aw-tull Chaac (brown god): chak (pretty much like "chalk") Kukulkan (green god): coo-cool-kawn

My wife and I really enjoy this one, the gears are a great twist on worker placement. Just today I saw some gears that people had painted up to make the game livelier, definitely looks cool painted to theme!

Fantastic video Richard. You have confirmed my suspicion that this will be an excellent worker placement game to pick up!

And umm when you place the dummy at Tikal 3, it should have been place to TIkal 4 coz one round has passed and if that dummy was there on tikal 3 on the previous turn then it would be on 4th place now. Sry for broken english. Amazing game by the way, I've bought it today. Watching your videos helped me a lot on deciding what to get.
@kosterix1233 жыл бұрын
6:30 thematically each spot stands for 10 years. The zero spot means you’re sending off a little kid. Anything over 80 dies from old age, mechanically the worker goes to the bank. As your worker ages while being on a single wheel of time, he becomes more skilled which is represented by better end of employment benefits. A full game therefore lasts for 2.6 centuries!

Very perceptive of you, welcome to 'sticktion'. A mech eng jargon for unreasonable amounts of intertia in trying to get a set of gears to budge from stasis. Best part of the game :) We walk away wiser but we're not quite sure why.

Another great run through video thank you :-). I like the fact that you do your videos very fluid in the sense that you do a move, think about it and explain why you have changed to a different move selection. It actually does a really good job of showing pros and cons. My wife and I have visited Chichen Itza or Chicken Pizza if you aren't vegan :-P, this is actually what made us decide on this game ( of course after being wowed by the gears!). BTW... if you ever make it down to New Zealand, please get in touch if you like as we would LOVE to game with you!

I thought that I remembered there being a rule that if you cut down the forest in the green track to get to the corn , that it would anger the gods and lose you points or some such. Did I totally read a rule wron or misunderstand something?

Probs a question for the rulebook or BGG threads, but I thought I would throw it out here for the time being (until I get this game) @ 21:00 you mentioned you could have gotten an extra wood... you had 1 stone in play already, could you have paid that to move your tech up one (on the resource track), then taken you guy back off the resource wheel, to obtain 2 wood, then paid 1 of the wood you obtained to make your second move on the tech track? or do you have to perform 1 "wheel action" at a time? i love your reviews they are the ones i watch religiously (apart from your goofs, you do an awesome job! considering you don't cut/edit your play-through like others do)
@rahdo10 жыл бұрын
that's a good question, and tbh i'm not scholar enough to say for certain. but i'd bet that you can't split up actions like that (at least, i'd be surprised if you could)

The most we have seen is 108 and 94 and that was very difficult to pull off. But we have been averaging around 40-60 most games. What have you seen? Thanks!

When you have the board set up at the beginning of the video with the red and yellow players, are those "dummy" players that the rules say to put there, or were they there just because you were setting the game up earlier?
@Wyldfae2811 жыл бұрын

I am new to this game, I hope someone could answer me. What do i do with the Corn tiles and Lumber tiles harvested from the Green Gear? Do they act up in the end game scoring? Can I use them as normal corn/resources?
@rahdo9 жыл бұрын
Sin Voon Chin well, you collect those tiles and use them to feed your people at various points in the game, and also to build buildings. it's all demonstrated in the runthrough video :)
@whit3fox9 жыл бұрын
***** Thank you for your quick reply! What I meant was the square corn tiles and the square lumber tiles...Are they serving the same purpose as the lumber block and the normal corns?
@rahdo9 жыл бұрын
Sin Voon Chin sorry, i'm not sure what the lumber block and normal corns are? in my copy of the game, there are only corn and lumber tokens (the square tiles)
@whit3fox9 жыл бұрын
***** sorry, maybe its because of my english... let me try again. When you harvest corns (the currency)/the wood on Palenque Gear, you also took the square corn tile/ square wood harvest tile from it (meaning you emptying the plot). I know the roundish corn tile (which indicated 1 & 5 are like the currency in the game, while the brown cube block is the wood resource) My question is, what do you do with the square corn tiles and the square wood harvest tiles that are removed from the plot and jungle.
@rahdo9 жыл бұрын
Sin Voon Chin OH! okay, i understand. yeah, you just take the tiles and hold on to them, because they might be worth points at the end of the game. i talk about this a bit at 30:25 :)

Hi Richard. I noticed you kept saying Chicken Itza, (like BBQ Chicken) but i think it's pronounced: "Chee-Chen" ('Chee' as in Tai Chi) It's spelled Chichen Itza..without the 'k'. Not a big deal, but as a fan of the mysteries of the ancient Mayan civilization, I thought I'd mention it...keep up the excellent work. I appreciate your wealth of video output (especially with the new camera you've been using).

Rahdo, I was wondering if you had heard anything about the rumor of this game being broken? Apparently. I've been told, one is guaranteed victory if one chooses this path: Get to 6 workers in the first cycle, don't feed your people, get to Tech 2 level III, accumulate accumulate accumulate, then in cycle 4 buy everything.
