@@DrakeMR2 .... You missed my entire point and twisted it into something it is not. I stated look at MJ's ROOKIE SEASON NUMBERS (age 21 - before his prime) and compare those to Kobe's MVP SEASON NUMBERS (age 29 - during his prime). And no, it is very fair. Kobe's father played in the NBA, which gave Kobe an advantage, and he played against NBA talent, another supposed advantage. If Kobe thought he was good enough to enter into the NBA at that age and he didn't do well to begin, it is his own fault. He still played and that part of his career still has to be counted. It pains me when I see people make these comparisons and try to delete his early years, but yet will include Jordan's later years with the Wizards. Bullshit!!! And if you want to do a comparison from the standpoint of age to age, you will still see that it is not even close! Jordan, playing in a college system that held his real level of play at bay, had better numbers than Kobe, if you want to take it there but I don't think you can do this. Kobe's numbers compared to MJ's numbers at the same age they were playing in the NBA is advantageous to MJ by a wide margin (shooting percentage tells the tale, along with a few other things). The only time Kobe's numbers began to really take off as a singular force separate from Shaq was when the rules changes took affect (ironic that Lebron's, and many others, numbers jumped as well). Before then, he had less to deal with from the opposition because of Shaq so he could afford to increase his numbers, but still inefficiently. Jordan, on the other hand, was doing well from the outstart, even when he had to deal with becoming the leader of the team and drawing all of the attention. He was having to deal with double and triple teams his entire career as a Bull, playing defense and putting up insane shot attempts, bailouts shots and the like, all while maintaining a crazy high shooting percentage. The problem with a lot of people's analysis is they solely look at the numbers and not look at the dynamics properly. I saw them both play their entire career, and saw them play live as well (I saw MJ play live for the first time in early 1987 in Philadelphia. I was in already in high school at that time!). Sorry to say, Mike is a few levels above Kobe.

It is probably one of the most important part of someone game, so you understand why they asked the GOAT of all time about 1 on 1,? Yes, no?. Note that some of the previous generations' players like Wilt, Russell, Baylor, and West, are left out of these lists because some players and fans think they're in a separate category entirely. The argument is that the league was so different then, without shot clocks, certain stats being recorded, completely different rules for dribbling and scoring (no 3-point line or palming allowed), and so on, so it's hard to compare those players on a skill level. A lot of good ball handlers today are blatantly carrying the ball every possession so you can't assume Jerry West wouldn't be just as good or better than today's guards. Wilt was the Shaq of his time, and probably better than Shaq. Who's your top 5 or 10 if we start off at 1980?
@martinolsen660

If we start from the 80s, I'd pick Larry, Jordan and Bryant for the top three - the order doesn't matter to me. They are considerably above everyone else. Then Magic at 4th and Hareem at 5th. I have Kareem, Kobe, Jordan, Duncan, Bird, LeBron, Shaq, then Magic. I don't have any player from the 1960's in the top 10, but from 1970's i do have Kareem because he is a center which means 3 pointers dont apply to him anyways. I would have Bird higher than 5, but because of longevity, defense, & fundamentals i have him under Tim Duncan respectfully. LeBron is a close top 3-5.. but too many finals losses imo. However, if LeBron gets another 🏆 & records the ultimate triple double 35,000 points, 10,000 assists, 10,000 rebounds ill put him there . I agree with Larry over Magic but i also have LeBron over Magic as well.. Magic Johnson is a legendary player & arguably the best Point Guard in nba history, however defensivley Magic isn't as good as any of the players in my top 5-6. Also Magic isn't the type of player who can take over a series with his scoring or defense , although Magic is better playmaker. during their time the Lakers was arguably the most stacked team in the league..with not much competition in the Western Conference. Magic Johnson played with Kareem , Jamal Wilkes, Norm Nixon, & James Worthy.. all +20ppg scorers & are All Stars. At the time the West was the weaker conference with weaker competition. . Lakers were so stacked that in 1981 even with Magic Johnson missing 47 games Kareem, Jamal Wilkes, & Norm Nixon still lead lakers to 3rd seed with a *54-28* record. Imo, Magic wasn't the best in his team until 1987-1991 after Kareem started to play less.. but Magic was top 3-5 in the league at the time , but imo Kareem was the best player on the Lakers 1976-1986. The Celtics were stacked team too but Larry Bird played 70-80 games a season from 1981-1988. during that time Bird won 3 straight mvps (84, 85, 86) , went to 4 straight finals (84, 85, 86, 87) , & had 2 straight 50/40/90 seasons (87 & 88) .. Larry Legend in 1989 had injury & played only 6 games that season.. even with teammates like Robert Parish, Kevin Mchale, & Danny Ainge the Celtics dropped to 8th seed with a *42-40* record without Bird in 1989. Celtics in 1988 were *57-25* with Bird playing 70-80 games a season . .also during this time the East had better teams it was pretty stacked.. imo from 1984-1988 Larry Bird was the best player in the league. . also you can argue that Magic was never the best player in the league. - 76ers with Charles Barkley, Moses Malone & Julius Erving. - Pistons with Isiah Thomas, Adrian Dantley, Dumars, & Rodman - Bucks with Sidney Moncrief & Marques Johnson - Atlanta Hawks with Dominque Wilkins & Doc Rivers - Bulls with young Michael Jordan

Even if I give you LeBron (I'm taking Kobe), name me 3 other players DEFINITELY better. And for those who played ball at competitive level (I played varsity), we know that stats don't tell the whole story. Kobe stamped his will on a game like no one this side of Jordan. He never chased stats, took end of clock shots after his teammates bogged down earlier in the clock, guarded the best player on the other team and was an expert at stopping the bleeding. I like Kobe too but I disagree and it's really not a debate. Jordan was just a little better at every thing and more efficient. I'd say Kobe was a better ball handler towards the end of their careers. I guess maybe more range then Jordan but shot like the exact same from 3. (Can u imagine how good of a 3 point shooter MJ would have been if he came into the league now) Jordan had a little better footwork and more moves. All those moves we saw from Kobe came from Jordan. Jordan just was more fluid and got more separation. It's like Coke vs Diet Coke lol.

Mj changed the paradigm of the nba. He proved that it was possible to win rings without a dominant big man. He is 6/6 in the finals. He was a better defender then Kobe. Better hands and lived at the rim arguably the greatest athlete of all time. Therefor his fg% was better. He will for ever be the goat. Kobe actually aged better. He still got his lay ups too. Jordan just was better at creating space to get open and took smarter shots. No way he is more skilled imo. @@Serching4JerryGarcia Dude, Kobe is awesome, as I said. My second favorite player ever. But he was not as efficient as Jordan because he wasn't as athletic. His hands were smaller and his jump is a FOOT less. And this shows in their overall efficiency. 5 Percent difference in SG shooting % is a significant separation. When Jordan was hogging the ball on bad teams, he shot over 50 percent. Kobe has never shot 47 percent in his career and had some years where he shot 43 percent. Take for example plays like where Kobe triple pump faked three point shots with wide open teammates. Such decision making made him less efficient. Jordan has a better body overall and it shows in his game. But yes, I shouldn't have said there isn't a move Kobe has done that Jordan hasn't. That was hyperbole. But I do think Jordan could have easily done that behind the back slam if the scenario had arisen.

What these players say can't always be taken as law. Contractual obligations compel them to say certain things at certain times i.e. Nike guys are obligated to promote other nike guys and sneaker sales has a lot to do with who is promoted & who is not. What I mean is Kareem and Magic don't sell sneakers, Kobe do - Nike does everything possible to advertise, promote & keep Kobe's name relevant
@Ben2bwild
@Ben2bwild 5 жыл бұрын
@@Sole-Survivor that's some bs. Most of these guys never even liked Kobe as a person. Kobe had like 2 friends in the nba unlike these days when all the players are friends. They aren't contractually obligated to say anything nice about Kobe. Kobe constantly gets disrespected by the media because he doesn't have friends in the media. If it had anything to do with Nike, they would have ppl promoting Kobe in the media.

One thing that I've never heard anyone talk about with MJ and Kobe is the difficulty of the shots/ lay ups that they took. They were the type to try different things just to see if they could do it. Their confidence, mentality, competitiveness, and will was stronger then anyone's. That's why I feel had they kept it more fundamentally sound then their efficiency numbers would be wayyyy higher. But the game seemed to easy for them so they tested themselves with ridiculous shots!

I've never understood the disrespect to Kobe. Almost every analyst/commentator I've ever heard goes straight from MJ to Bron in the GOAT debate. I'm like "Um, hello! Y'all do realize Kobe Bryant existed, right??" I look at it like this: if you don't put Kobe in the GOAT conversation (I'm not saying HAVE HIM AS THE GOAT, I'm saying have him in the conversation), you either believe one of two things: 1. Mike isn't the GOAT (which is fine, lots of people don't think he is) 2. Kobe isn't the closest thing to MJ that we've ever seen.

Pay attention to how much of these NBA players who played in Kobe’s dominate era say that he is one of the best ever if not the best ever, no top 5 they say top 3 if not 1. There needs to be an edit of all these players saying it.
