As a Bronco fan I am happy to see Cliff Branch inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame. It is a crime that he was not inducted sooner.

8:05 That question is why "writers" shouldn't be the only ones voting. Peers should have a majority vote. If Mel Blount tells me Cliff Branch is a Hall of Famer but, for example, Peter King says he's not. Who's word are you going to take, the guy who stood on the grass with the player or the guy that wrote about both men? Glad Cliff is in finally but the wait was a crime.

Good point. Marcus Allen, Joe Greene, Dave Casper, Kenny Easley, Mel Blount, Mike Haynes or Peter King? Hall of Famers vs armchair quarterback? I would believe the legends who stumped for Branch.

Ask Mel Blount or Ronnie Lott or Kenny Easley who they feared most.

In the 74 AFC Championship Mel Blount even got benched because he couldn’t slow down Cliff, and Blount is considered a top 5 corner of all time. Another example of why Cliff should have been in sooner. Pretty sure the term ”speed kills“ was first used for him.

Congratulations to the late, GREAT Cliff Branch, one of the early "Speed Kills" WR's of the NFL. Loved watching him when I was a kid, love watching videos of Cliff still. Our RAIDERS have so many great players that should be in the HoF or at least get much consideration... Lester Hayes definitely in, one of the great CB's in NFL history, and one of the two (along with Mike Haynes) CB's that comprise the #1 duo of all time. Jim Plunkett should be in the HoF, the greatest comeback story of all time... TWICE. Most people forget that Plunkett was basically put out to pasture in '83, but with Wilson failing it took Plunkett to guide the offense and the team to victory and another SB win. I've said it before and I'll say it again, stats aren't everything, winning is a lot more important. (Just win, baby!) Probably my favorite RAIDER of the time, the 80's, was the man with the gift of grab and the gift of gab... Todd Christensen. As Branch was integral to the RAIDERS offense at WR, his ability to make the deep threat a defenses nightmare, so Christensen was at TE... if the defense didn't focus on Christensen he would make them pay. In Christensen's case the stats were unbelievable for a TE, he made WR's jealous, and four years straight, this was no flash-in-the-pan player. (*There's a football card with the AFC and NFC reception leaders, iirc 1985, Todd Christensen and Jerry Rice... that's good company right there.) And this in the era of the running game, not like the last 15+ years of a mainly passing league. Add in that TC was a vibrant personality, a sports commentator, a tv show host or guest (I used to watch him on HBO's "Inside The NFL"), the man was a badass and gentleman (like the great Ted Hendricks). I know you can only put so many people in the HoF, and not all from the same team, but the HoF is about the best and brightest, the story, the history, and not politics and/or parity.

When Cliff Branch was running track for the University of Colorado he set the world record for the indoor 60 yard dash - temporarily making him the fastest man alive. This fact seems to be forgotten.

Branch in the HOF was way overdue. Since the rules in the NFL are constantly changing, the HOF voting criteria should be done based on the era the person played. Cliff was one of the very best in his era. Nothing else should matter. If the voter is political, that person should step away and let someone else vote. We should now be discussing Lester Hayes, Jim Plunkett, Rod Martin, Phil Villapiano, George Atkinson and Jack Tatum.
@cliftonconnor93892 жыл бұрын
Agreed. Cliff Branch should have been elected ahead of Lynn Swann, but he wasn't a media darling. Way overdue. The man should have been given his pearls before his passing.

@dogslobbergardens66062 жыл бұрын
My instant reaction was, "Wait what?!? Why the hell wasn't he already in the HoF years ago?" Jim Plunkett is long overdue for recognition, too. Preferably before he dies, assuming he cares about that sort of thing. I hate when they wait till someone dies to finally show them some respect, as with Ken Stabler and Cliff Branch. That's just shitty.

💯💯💯 Should have been done when he was alive, I agree.

My thoughts exactly. It's almost a slap in the face to Stabler and Branch...neither were able to enjoy that honor. Strange timing that their entry was very shortly after passing; almost as if this was intentionally done. I feel happy for their family, but its really bittersweet.

I remember when there was an article on ESPN before stabler got in to the hall of fame and they had one of the writers for sports illustrated "Dr. Z" in a clip and he flat out said hed NEVER vote Ken Stabler for the hall of fame. It really shows the ineptitude of the people over the hall of fame how biased a lot of the voters they had were.

Finally Cliff Branch made it, way overdue! And so are Lester Hayes and Jim Plunkett. How in the world was Lester overlooked for so long, he was so dominant for years. And Plunkett with 2 superbowl wins and dominant superbowl wins when they weren't favored to win. It wasn't his fault he was drafted and then traded to lousy teams before Finally making it to the Raiders. There are qbs that made it with no superbowl wins, it's just ashame

@stocksgoupward59222 жыл бұрын
this is still for his legacy and his family to enjoy like it was for Kenny Stabler Family. problem with old time receivers is their stats. back then when NFL was played it was 1st down run, second down run and third down was passing down. its just how was done. dont forget the corners came right up and hit the WR off the line. he was before the 5 yard chuck down the field and he was also before the west coast offense. short passing. Branch caught bombs. lead league in yards per catch. Cliff put fear in every Corner and safety even the best ones in the league and many hall of famers too. Raiders had Casper at TE and Branch the deep threat and Fred Biletnikoff 3rd down possession receiver with great hands. Think of another team that had 3 players like this? I cant. ALL 3 of these catchers are now all in the HOF as they should with the Snake Stabler too. Raiders in the 70's were just a slight notch off the Steelers and Cowboys or the Dolphins. but they could just missed being as good as them, and in the 80's they win 2 more SB's with Branch.

No excuses !! Should not have taken this long and after his passing to induct. Same for Ken Stabler. Numerous other Raiders are long overdue…!!! Jack Tatum.
@WrexFX2 жыл бұрын
They REALLY need to let Jack Tatum and Lester Hayes in. Tatum has literally been blackballed from it and ive seen so many of them old players mike nat Moore talk about how he was really the face of the defense then. Ron Wolfe said he was the fastest player in that secondary running a 4.3 and the only rookie in Wolfe's time there that was never made to sing like they make rookies do at training camp. Never. Lester is ridiculously deserving of the HOF. I dont agree with Plunkett being in i loved plunkett but he was very inconsistent for us and I watched many games of his. They really should have jack in tho.

I saw CB#21 play! A ton of times! Homeboy was robbed simple as that. Shoulda been voted in, in '90, 5 years after he retired. Two things pain me and gaul me that 1) Tim Brown got in before Cliff cause TB couldn't hold Cliff's jock strap, period and 2) that overrated (only ever covered 1 side of the field) Nnamdi Asomugha wore #21. I'm so pleased they finally got CB #21 in 30 years late!
