Cliff Branch finally in the Hall Of Fame! Rest In Peace

Back in those days, the two primary receivers were referred to as the SPLIT End and the Tight End. Today, you still hear the term "Tight End", but never the old school term of "SPLIT End" anymore. Cliff Branch was the ultimate SPLIT End.
@bloodorange671321 күн бұрын
It was split end and flanker; tight end was always a separate position.

When he came into the league, he couldn't catch a cold. He was always fast, but he MADE himself into wide receiver. That the hall waited until after his death to enshrine him is unforgivable.
@Motoicon2 жыл бұрын
I did not know that about him early on. Yes, the fact they waited really is unforgivable...but they didnt do Stabler any favors either...I think its partly due to the fact they are Raiders?...My favorite baseball and football teams are in Oakland...No matter where they play, I will always call them both "Oakland" Raiders and Athletics

@@Motoicon With you on that. 💯

@@Motoicon In Cliff Branch’s rookie season, he would blow by defenders who were lined up 10 yards or more off of him, and George Blanda would lay deep balls perfectly in his hands…and he would drop them. He spent his first two seasons working on his ball handling skills, even to the point of carrying a football around his Alameda home, tossing it around at different angles and catching it. He had his breakout game in season three in San Diego against the Chargers. Thereafter, he was the terror of NFL defenses.

@@greggross8856 Fantastic-I love these accounts of history unknown to some us. I loved watching Branch and the Raiders when I was a boy. Great memories. Thanks

Man, I miss those great old Raiders! I also miss the humility they all had by not doing a bunch of stupid celebration dances after they did what they get paid to do.

@sydboski5 ай бұрын
@@charlesrazo7246 I am a Raider fan since 1975 and no they do not count. Unless you are talking about the TEAM. As far as individual players go, SuperBowl are a non-factor. If we go by your theory Mark van Eeghen is better than Earl Campbell, Jim Plunkett is better than Dan Marino, and Kenny King is better than Barry Sanders. LMAO!!!

When Cliff Branch was running track for the University of Colorado he set the world record for the indoor 60 yard dash - temporarily making him the fastest man alive. This seems to be forgotten.
