RailGiants Train Museum Whistles and Bells!

This video is a compilation of bells and whistles at the RailGiants Train Museum in Pomona, CA, almost every bell and whistle was blown on 2/12/22, with the exception of the Centennial, which was blown on 9/14/19. Enjoy! A part 2 may come in the coming months.

And I don't even know you can actually power on UP 3105s diesel engine. Man, the RailGiants is a LEGIT museum of California along with the California State Railroad Museum

5021 sounds surprisngly good considering how everything else sounds.

3450 was at low air pressure, trust me it sounds amazing at high pressure. 9000 doesnt sound right with air. needs more tbh

Honestly I would really love to see 9000 and 5021 up in running condition. Since the 9000 class have such a unique exhaust soundtrack. Since most steam engines are 1 2 1 2 1 2 1 2. The 9000’s are 1 2 3 1 2 3 1 2 3. And 5021, that whistle just sounds imposing. Makes it sound like a large and rather fast locomotive is on the tracks.

The numbers I’m referring is the sound of the chuffing. Since most steam engines have a pretty set on stone sound to them. They usually puff in a sequence of 1 and 2. The 9000 class since they had that third cylinder had a very unusual sound since that third cylinder added a third chuff to the sound. I would recommend watching Eric Trains video on the 9000 and listen to how the engines chuffs. But yes I’m aware the 9000 is a 4-12-2

suprised that the prime mover on the new addition is still operational would be good if they used to move the older locomotives so that people could see the movement of such large machines sad to see 9000 looking as rusty as it is though

Union Pacific donated 3105 in operational condition, it does still move around on occasion. Yes the 9000 could use a new coat of paint.

Awesome video! Haven't been to the rail Giants Museum in about 10 years. Gotta get out there to check it out again. Sounds to me like they need to open up the horn on the DD40 and clean it out to get it sounding right again.

I did see 2 videos of the dd40’s horn on minimal to full air pressure, those vids are now 8 and 10 years old so I don’t know about the horn I guess

I heard a kid injured her ankle severely at this outdoor railroad museum on 2/10/2024. Leave your kids alone for one single minute, and they'll climb all over locomotives and cars, and fall or jump to an extremely painful injury. Some of those locomotives have the words "Keep off" written on them; there has to be a reason for that.

The SF and SP 6 chimes sound quite similar, but at the same time, you can still hear the difference, I love both. Also, 9000 is a very unique locomotive and could use some new paint. Still love her tho, good stuff.

Did you know Up Big boy 4014 used to be there it had the same feature as the others but way deeper pitched it was restored in 2019 for the 150th anniversery of the driving of the golden spike

The centennials horn isnt at full blast, there are some vids of it with a full blast i believe. I like 5021’s a lot, the 3105 is also my fave, Thanks!

I think the DD40 has a Prime 990. Because S5Ts were pretty rare on UP in the 60s to 80s.

the reason Union Pacific donated the locomotive there, is because of when they were moving 4014 out of Railgiants, 3105 was it's replacement (if anybody didnt know that by now)
