Really amazing. Österreich hat wunderschöne Eisenbahnstrecken. Das ist ein schönes Beispiel einer landschaftlich hochinteressanten Lokalbahn. - Austria has beautiful railway lines. This is a beautiful example of a local railway with a very interesting landscape.

The first time I rode on the stubaitahlbahn (1972) I had to travel accross town to the Stubaihof and wait for the tram there. The ticket was torn like a page out of a large book and according to how far you were travelling the page was skillfully trimmed by tearing strips off that page by the conductor. If the conductor was lucky his ticket book had well marked perforations to follow. If you were going the whole length od the line you ended up with the whole page.

Operational note from 50 years ago, when this railway was still separate from the Innsbruck tram network: that last slope into Fulpmes was used to shunt the passenger trailers by gravity, no need for loops to run round for the return trip \m/

Trains don't stop for traffic lights. But trams do. Within the city the Stubaitalbahn operates as a tram and thus has to follow road traffic rules.

I travelled this line about 8 years ago in a vintage tram and in deep snow. A truly amazing journey not to be missed. Such gradients and countryside. I would like to know how they control movements to prevent “cornfield meets”.

Somehow every time this pops up and the train runs into a dead end at fulpmes, I cant help to think that they should finally extend this line all the way to the glacier and after that potentially tunnel-through to Sölden, ideally while improving the line to reach like 70-80kmh. And while you are at it, cooperate with rbb to extend their line from Scuol to Landeck, and from Landeck build a new line to Bludenz via Ischgl, Galtür and Schruns.

Well that was a bit different, real cliffhanger from leaving Innsbruck. The valley route, which is the usual way for a railway must have real bad obstacles? Hence the high level route taken.

It _a_nnounces (announcment in German is "Ankündigung") that the light is going to turn green soon. This is for traffic lights that are controlled by an approaching tram so that a) the driver knows his vehicle has been registered by the system and b) if there is a station that he should close the doors as to not miss the green signal.

Richtig, leider bis heute nur teilweise... 😔 Die Bahn muss sich die Straße in manchen Abschnitten mit dem Autoverkehr teilen. Innsbruck hat sehr enge Straßen. Es würde nur helfen die Autos komplett zu verbannen. Vielleicht kommts irgendwann... 😊
