Yes. In the early 80s until the late 90s or so there were WCH mechs and they operated the same way.

I really hope that if they upgrade these signals they open up the lights and use a socket adapter to install a dimmable LED household lightbulb in each light (and only replace the gate lights when they burn out)

What a strange deactivation pattern! I love crossings and all but I'm not a fan of these split crossings where some lights flash and some gates drop depending on which track the train is on. I understand why they are setup that way, but given the general "idiocy" of the average person today, I can see a majority of people being "confused" when driving up to an activated crossing like this. The only place I've seen setups like this are the upper midwest (Illinois, Ohio, Indiana, MIchigan, etc.).
