"Street Running, Switching & Shove Moves" NYS&W Utica Branch

This video focuses on the March 27, 2023 NYS&W Utica NY local including street running, switching and a few shove moves. Witold, my dog, once again accompanied me. He's a stalwart fellow.
The video opens with a long view of the freight making its way southbound down Utica's Schuyler Street. Following scenes show the Susquehanna local, with leased CSX GP38-2 providing the power, on former West Shore and New York, Ontario & Western tracks.
The video also features a look at the delivery of a bulkhead flat to Di Highway, a customer at the very end of the New York Mills industrial trackage.

I've recently started following your channel and when I saw CSX 2514, I had to think to myself, like that number sounds so familiar. Then I put it together and 2514 was the last four numbers on the license plate of my old work van I used to drive from my old delivery job delivering car parts to body shops and mechanic shops. I just thought that was so cool when I saw that CSX engine number.

Hi, nice to watch everyday life in the States around the Railroad and thanks for posting. I notice the Super-elevation of the Track around that first curve after the street-running (4 mins.) The Train really leans-over into it.

All those little Railway sections that both New England in the midwest had in common going somewhere where they thought the business would be. They certainly Were A Step Above horse and wagon but once the good roads were in place there just wasn't enough to support the railroad. Thanks for describing the connections and "who was going where" track layout. I still marvel at the Iowa map Circa 1915 and except for a small section on the Southwest part of the state you couldn't go five miles without crossing a track. Even then I looked up some towns out east and they had tracks going 6 to 8 directions and some are completely wiped out. PS. BFI garbage truck versus CSX locomotive the battle of the blue paint surpassed by the only dog that gets tired taking naps

I was looking on Google Earth and couldn't see the siding section where they switched the cars around the 7:00 mark. And same on street view dated October 2015, but it shows up in the image from September 2017. I thought I was looking at the wrong spot but I guess they only built that section sometime after Oct 2015.

Awsome videos!!! Would you happen to know if there's a specific schedule for these deliveries or when a train would likely be running on this street? I am currently in Utica close by for the next two weeks and was hoping to catch the train in person on that street!

All I can tell you is that they could be on Schuyler Street any day M-F between 9-11, it all depends on the amount of switching the crew has to do in the yard. Good Luck!

Why railway tracks are laid on the middle of the ordinary road, without any fencing? There are people and other cars running around. Anytime anywhere anyone can be injured, any casualty can happen. This is a really bad example of town planning and irresponsible government.

Oh I know, I think they should also put lots of bubble wrap and cotton wool around for people too so they don't get an owie.
