This is great footage. The 5700 series GP38-2s had just been renumbered into the 4900s a couple of months before this was shot.

8:45 may be the first time I've seen a GTW unit with alternating ditch lights.

Nice video! Absolutely love the Amtrak “Pepsi Can” B32-8W at 3:07 and the GM water tower at 8:38! Also, I like the classic EMD consists, the paint schemes, and the striker bells on the grade crossing gates!

Excellent footage. Out of curiosity, I saw a lot of CP and NS engines paired. IIRC both NS and CP ran in this territory, were those sets CP trains with leased NS power?

Heck, this is so good quality that it could be D-VHS Video Tape.

I’ll be flying into Detroit in October and filming in the Toledo area…anything in Detroit that’s worth filming too?

I really don't know being from Tennessee, but I would say judging from this video that Detroit has CN NS and sometimes UP, here is a link. By the way you can look up different railroad "system maps" for example if you look up NS system map you could probably see if NS has any lines in Detroit. kzbin.info/www/bejne/p3a1hmmwfs2Cr9k Have fun!!

I personally have only been to Delray. While it certainly is urban, I didn't find it unsafe. I probably wouldn't be there at night, though. I know Romulus, Plymouth, Carleton, and Monroe are other spots to railfan around Detroit, but aren't nearly as busy or colorful as Delray. Toledo seems much busier than Detroit train-wise.
