Very picturesque ride. Impressive variety of building near railway, from very old (almost medieval) in Soloturn to classic houses, modern townhouses and apartment building.

I love watching your train rides. Switzerland is such a beautiful country and I really enjoy seeing it from inside the train cabs. It is just too bad, however, that so much of the beauty is spoiled by all the graffitti spread all over the walls and buildings along the way. It mars everything.

Another tremendous journey with plenty of rolling stock to be seen throughout. Loved that walk through the Vectron, always fascinating to see the inner workings of those locos. Nice easy load for this journey aswell. I'm assuming the freight wagons were empty as there wasn't much weight on that train.

Indeed, RhB transports these containers by train from and to Landquart. Trucks are usually only needed for the last stretch of the transport.

@LuisLopez-hf4ed2 жыл бұрын

@RailwayEmotions2 жыл бұрын
We can set a marker and when the entire train length has passed, it is confirmed by a sound, in this case Roadrunner. Therefore we know exactly when we can speed up after curves, switches etc.

@Railway Emotions, what a wonderful video. Swiss efficiency in full view around 7:50 when it goes next to another cargo train by changing tracks so gracefully. One question - who controls/directs on which track different trains should pass? Is it local to each station on centrally co-ordinated? I find track changes from 5:30-8:00 to be very fascinating. Thanks a lot for yet another great video.
@rmoudgalya2 жыл бұрын
@Parallax Thank you so much for such a detailed explanation, including the Zurich airport trivia. I can see that how complex the systems are and how much of thought has gone in for smooth operation. For visitors (and admirers of everything Swiss) like me, everything looks so smooth and simple. Hats off. (Nice to see reference to Dubendorf, where I lived for a couple of months long time ago).
@RailwayEmotions2 жыл бұрын
@Parallax very well explained, BUT everything you said is SBB specific. Don't forget there are more operation centers, for example BLS Spiez, where "our" controllers for the first part of the video are working from. There are some others like SOB, SZU and don't forget about all the narrow gauge operators.

Thanks for taking the trouble to document this one, exciting to see how frequent the service now is on the Belp line! Presumably the shunter seen on the left 1:59:30 is about to shunt your wagons without you having to leave the cab - how much further was the train due to run? \m/
@RailwayEmotions2 жыл бұрын
This is the terminus for this train, the wagons are then used further in the distribution system. Either just unloaded and loaded, maybe a new train is being coupled together... We drivers are not informed about what happens next and to be honest it does not matter for our task ;-)
@officialmcdeath2 жыл бұрын
@@RailwayEmotions fair point, thank you - so on this occasion, would you have just uncoupled the 476 and stabled it somewhere nearby or would you have been involved in the local shunt activities? \m/

The G1000 that we saw on the left took care of shunting. We just leave it to them.

A question: why did you take the single-track section after Thun? If you drove the other tracks, you can drive through Bern, without needing to turn around. What was the reason behind that choice?
@RailwayEmotions2 жыл бұрын
As drivers we don't get to choose our route. It makes sense to route us through there, we only had a locomotive and could comfortably fit into any station for crossings, plus the main line and Bern station is already heavily used.
