BNSF's Oklahoma Transcon

The BNSF Transcon line runs from Chicago to Los Angeles, and goes
through many scenic
areas along the way. One such place is the portion of the line in
Oklahoma .
In this program, we follow the Transcon from the state lines of Kansas
and Texas through
western Oklahoma over the steep Curtis Hill grade.
This is heavy duty mainline railroading, and by the time trains reach
the top of Curtis Hill, they
are often down to a crawl. A really interesting place to watch trains.
Follow trains from Kiowa, Kansas to Higgins, Texas through western
Oklahoma.

* Watch trains crawling up the steep grade of Curtis Hill.

* See many grain elevator towns.

Enjoy the change of scenery as the line takes on a more “western”
feel.

Enjoy great contemporary freight action on one of BNSF’s busiest
lines.

Used to work through there. Before they finished the 2nd main (circa 2004), we stopped e.b. @ Heman, back then the end of double track to wait for a meet with a westbound. It was late afternoon, and the sky was dark to the west. My engineer wanted to get out for a stretch, so he did the rollby from the ground on the opposite side. By the time the train passed, the storm hit, with 80mph winds and horizontal rain and hail and the sky went from afternoon glow to dark within a couple minutes. My hogger said that this was the first time he'd ever seen it rain "up." Miraculously, we were not on the ground (blown over). The hail was about pea-size, and covered the ground like snow. Another hogger I worked with once had grown up in Avard, and spent time in his youth hunting rattlesnakes in the very area of your video. He actually knew where all the dens were!

14:35 It may have started out as a GP9, but 2511 is a GP10 just like it says on the side at this timestamp. It was rebuilt as a GP10 by Illinois Central.

i still pop in Trains of Galesburg. its the one video of yours i have. BNSF engines were kept much cleaner then. the more time goes on they seem to get more dirty and the cars only get covered in more graffiti. makes it harder to want to get after them. but i guess it is nice that you still get out after them.

(2nd comment) Ya know... something I just realized: The first half of the Panhandle Sub, that being from where the program begins at Kiowa, Kansas to the division point in Waynoka, Oklahoma, used to be part of a Santa Fe subdivision called the Waynoka Sub and then of course... from Waynoka, Oklahoma all the way to Amarillo, Texas... the Panhandle Sub really began. I always wondered why, after the BNSF Merger, that the mention of the Waynoka Sub was removed from BNSF Timetables?

Panhandle Sub runs from Welling, KS to Amarillo. Waynoka hasn't been a crew change since before the merger.

@@terryl3138 I know that. But there used to be a Waynoka Sub which ran from Wellington, Kansas to Waynoka, Oklahoma. And of course.... Waynoka was where the Panhandle Sub really began.
