Ride on-board the cab of Amtrak's Train #4, the "Southwest Chief" from Kansas City to Chicago.
This is a 5-part program. This is part three, Baring, Missouri to Ormonde, Illinois.
See the entire line, and listen to the comments of the crew as they point out railroad and historical features along the way. This BNSF line is former Santa Fe trackage, and you'll enjoy plenty of 90mph runnineg over the old AT&SF.
This was shot well before Positive Train Control, so you'll see plenty of old Santa Fe signal bridges.

Asked my grandad what were those struts on Santa Fe steam engines were for and his his answer was so the engineers don't blow the stack off the top of the top of the boiler later I learned about stack extenders but I always liked his explanatio

The Shopton Depot was built in the 1950's and became the Ft Madison depot, in 2023 they reopened the downtown Depot

I thought that only the Chicago & North Wetern had ""wrong way"" (ie left-hand) running! I''m sure Santa Fe was normal (right-hand) running. And I.m equally sure that the P42 Engineer sits on the right!!
