When my dad retired from farming in 1973, he owned a 1958 Farmall 450 and a 1955 Allis WD 45.. Most of his machinery was "older", some was even operating when he began farming in 1946. He never felt the need to have shiny, new equipment because his vintage machinery was still getting the job done. If you have the skill-set to keep it all running, go for it, Alan. Thanks again for taking the time to keep your videos focused on your present line of machinery and long live the "B"!
The sentimental value of the B alone is reason enough to keep it.

Ecellent bit of filming at the start !! That was very well done.. 👍And to add a comment on the old equiptment being usless debate.. It all gets the job done.. You can repair them yourself, they have already paid for themselves, and your not meeting the bank manager every couple of months to discuss finances.. You will do fine in life if you dont fall victim to consumerisim.. Those that do, are on an endless chase for newer or bigger better than before.. Running around feeling unfulfilled with empty pockets..

So cool seeing farm kids get big enough to reach the pedals on a tractor and start using them for farm jobs. Even better when the o old tractor is the same his great grandfather, grandpa, and dad all used. Some seriously great memories with a fantastic old tractor. I'm with you on seeing no reason to get rid of it but a lot of reasons to keep using it and keep the tradition alive. I love that stuff! God's peace to you and your family!

Now that my hands are free I will jump in here again. While you were talking about your B I was cleaning the carburetor on our Minnie Mo Z. I am with you 100%. At least those old tractors and machinery were no nonsense that you don't have to be a rocket scientist to fix. They still have a place and can do the job. We are proud that our newest tractors were built during the Reagan administration and before and we get along just fine. Maybe it is "junk" to some but they are treasured by us.

Alan, I love watching your channel as much for your family as the cows and equipment. I’m 9 years younger than the B but see it as a valuable machine for certain aspects of your operation. Shiny and new is great but your business plan needs a return on investment. Your investment in your equipment and sweat equity in repairs is a very strong return. More power to you. On another note, watching this video flooded me with emotions. I would have been doing the exact same thing as your son in 1965. Helping dad and contributing and learning were all I wanted to do. You and Jen should be very proud of your kids. Keep on farming and I’ll keep on watching.

My uncle had a Farmall B just like that but didn't have the wheel Wights on it. when I was about eight years old I would ride on the axle on the left side. They used it for gardening. I'm almost 75 now. Life was a lot more simpler then. We didn't get electricity until after 1955 And in 1958 we got a bathroom in the house and a pump in water well. We had a kerosene cook stove my grandmother had a wood cook stove. God bless you and yours.❤

A lot of people don't understand about these tractors. You have Alot of history with that stuff like Alan said. Best things about the tractors like this is they are tried and true, and paid for. I bought a knew tractor 7 years ago and spent many years paying for it. We all have tractors that we grew up on or around that we would love to find. The B is a great learning tractor for the kids to learn on. Great video hopefully the rain keeps coming for everyone.

You are one of the few smart farmers. Too many farmers bury themselves in debt by always having to have the newest and best. It is smarter to buy old but good then new and in debt.// I forgot to add: This is one of my favourite videos the way it is broken up and edited made it a joy to watch. Besides the kids with the calves, the rain shots were excellent. My hat is off to the Mrs. for excellent camera work.

Lived with my grandparents as a child and he had a b farmall which is what I learned to drive with about 8 or 9 years of age. At there farm auction my aunt bought the tractor and years later my cousin bought it and has restored it. I really think the reason I am farming today is because of learning to drive that tractor and falling in love with what can be accomplished with farming equipment.

One reason to not buy new unless you need new, it works and it is affordable. That is a good reason. My dad had an old JD -B. It didn't look great, but he plowed, racked and planted, and it was used to cut wood for our house. He loved it. When he passed away, one of his friends took it to restore it. Bet it is still working.

Man I find that old equipment so interesting. I bet the new stuff won’t be around in 70 years. My son in-law just bought a 1949 Allis chalmers C tractor with a brush hog and it runs so nice. He also has a 1945 ford tractor. We have our local steam and gas show coming up. High light of the year for his family of six kids! Lots of old tractors. Steam powered and all. Great you are using the old equipment. We live in Texas and each summer we head to central Mexico to help on the rancho. (we own part of it) We plant beans, wheat, barley, and oats mix for cattle feed. We cut the oat, barley, wheat with an McCormick-Deering reaper/binder Model EM-4. Serial number makes it build 1937 to 1957. It's a joy to use and if properly maintained works really well (we always trouble shoot each year before use) My brother in law runs a JD 1010 (1962) hard to crank but is still strong. As for me you can not beat the old stuff--it was made to last. Take care and hope you have a great crop year.
