Rewatched it a few days ago, A very touchwarming masterpiece of film, based on the true story of Kim Peek, the actual Rain Man. An excellent Cast with Hoffman nailing the role despite the difficulty being expected, Hoffman's influence and his depiction were perfectly done, and deservingly of it awards, I don't think anyone else could be cast other than him, with Tom Cruise, and Golino, just as great to the performance, an excellent soundtrack, storyline, dialog and effects. Overall the film was perfection in capturing our hearts, and respect for the Rain Man. Obviously, a bit pushed the story is in comparison to the true story, but that's Hollywood. Not a single dull moment, whether be the Poker Scene to the simple scenes of them at home, Covering comedy, action, hearts, anger, sadness and just loads of emotions, by the end of it, your left with so much sympathy, admiration and respect. A film that does not deserve to be spoiled, but a must-watch. 1.16.23

It might be that he was just tired. It's very easy to get overstimulated in a casino if you're autistic - his fatigue is showing. It might be easy for normal people to stay in there, but for somebody autistic it's hell. That much noise, that many people, it's a testament to their relationship that he didn't FREAK OUT right there. He also probably found the rhythm of the machine more soothing, which is why he walked away.

It made perfect sense. He could beat blackjack because he counted cards and adjusted his play and bet accordingly. The current hand is DEPENDENT on the cards remaining in the shoe. The roulette wheel is random - no math involved to use to the player’s advantage. Each spin is INDEPENDENT and unrelated to the previous results. That’s why he could win at BJ but not strict “games of chance”.

@@juanmagan7900 people dont realise how simple card counting is, for those that don't know: you can count any size shoe. All you are doing is adding or subtracting 1 (or doing nothing) from your current total, every time you see a card. All you need to know is that there are 20 high cards, 20 low cards and 12 middle cards in a deck, and how many decks are in the shoe. When you see a 2-6 you minus 1, when you see a 7-9 you do nothing, when you see a Jack-Ace you plus 1. Depending on the shoe, if your total is 0-15 you are slightly unfavoured, 15+ heavily unfavoured, if your total is negative 15 or more, you are favoured. That's it. That's card counting.

"You know there's no one in the world who can count into a 6 deck shoe" Casinos must have a deal with Hollywood to steer us wrong in the public so we will think counting cards is impossible.

Wrong, it’s opposite actually. Casinos want u to believe u can do it. They make way more off card counting attempts than actual counting losses

With 6 decks and continuous wheel shufflers, the dealers putting the muck cards back into the shuffler every two hands, counting the cards is literally impossible for the players to predict! But it makes for a good movie! 😎 🦂🍻

A friend of mine was a consultant for the card scenes in this movie. He teaches casinos how to watch for and catch cheats. He travels around the world doing it. He can count cards. Up to 4 decks, I believe he said. He catches cheaters coming in, but also employees who are assisting others. He's a consultant for magicians you have heard of too. He is able to show the magicians how to handle cards like a regular card dealer, so everything looks legit. Another thing: he asked me what my birthdate was. Within about 5 seconds, he told me what day of the week it was. He was right! He's the nicest man too. But wow, the skill was so impressive.
Counting more decks in a shoe is not fundamentally different than counting a single deck. You just divide your running count by the number of decks remaining in the shoe. That tells you the true count at any point in time. If you've got a 6-deck shoe and half the cards have been dealt from it, you divide your running count by 3 and that gives you the true count. More decks doesn't make the count any harder from a technical perspective, it just means you have to remember it for longer because it takes longer to play a full shoe and the count itself will change more slowly because each individual count has less effect on the final true count. The betting strategy and basic counting remains the same either way.

I don't see why adding decks fundamentally changes everything - you are keep a running score, not memorising every card that passes. Continuous shuffle machines are the remedy to card counting.

Any casino would’ve backed them off after a couple hands. They basically aren’t doing a good job at hiding the fact they’re counting cards. Plus what I’ve heard from professionals it doesn’t matter how many decks of cards are in the “shoe”.

This movie actually brought a lot of awareness to autism, although not complete accurate portrayal. There were parents who had no idea what was wrong with their kids, but when they saw that they shared the traits as Raymond, they realized maybe their child is autistic and sought out care.

The stupid part of Tom Cruise's decision on roulette is that roulette pays off a massive amount (50:1 or something) so you really are never supposed to put LARGE bets down. It's not a 50-50% type game. Your odds of winning are extremely low, you get payouts that are extremely large, and it's 100% dependent on luck. Being "good at math" and being able to track cards has no influence on roulette wheel randomness.
@youtubeuser75702 жыл бұрын
You misunderstood the scene. Rain Man's power is his ability to just look at things visually and compute what's going to happen such as when he counted the tooth picks when they were flying in the air. Cruise was hoping that he would be able to predict where the wheel landed just by looking at how it's spinning and how fast it's going. Theoretically, this is fairly predictable if you had a large enough sample size and he was so sure where it would land.
