Somewhere outside of Barstow was a little hole in the wall called Newberry Springs. I went there as a kid for summer camp. They had a yard sale and I found a signed LP record album by Dick Dale. The rest is history- I was hooked!

Hey - Del Taco - True story - I met the fellow who started the entire franchise. He lives/lived in Barstow (not sure if he is still with us). He is an old Air Force buddy of my step-dad's; they served together back in the 70's I believe. He was great to meet, generous and a really great family. I was a kid - his older son was very welcoming. You noted the "original" - just wanted to +1 your comment!

Great story, Thanks! I’ve been to the original location in Yermo Ca. Pretty cool spot. 🙂

Love the videos. We go to the same places so we might run into each other someday. Making that soup in the side of your super cool vintage van is next level. When you broke out with the hand mixer and started blending I got a big smile.

Love your adventures! I grew up in the desert in California and owned a 1956 bus that was a “Baja built “ rig. I’ve always loved vans I currently camp in a 2003 ambulance. Just curious about your bus. Would appreciate a walk through sometime. Cheers

Thank You!! Ambulance conversions are great. 😉 I'm planning to do a walkthrough video for 2025 during my next outing. If everything goes as planned, I should be able to post it on March 1. The bus, cameras, and my age are all factors to consider.😂

Hi Larry. Thank you for sharing your "back yard" with us. What great vistas! Sorry to see the damage to Das Bus ( a nick name I coined for my old 69' bus ). I really think you are getting better at this as you go along. Your comment on worse places to die was dually noted given the views & all. Do you ever give thought to what happens afterwards ? Anyway, I don't want to end on a morbid note. As always keep the shinier side up!

Glad you enjoyed it. As for the tunnel, I never thought that it was unsafe. Safety First Right! :o) Coming from a guy that drives around in a tin box with wheels underneath it. :o)

If you want some SoCal desert history, the original Del Taco was in Yermo, just east of Barstow. IMO, it should be a UNESCO World Heritage site! (But still won't ever be as good as the burritos at that gas station in Sun Valley, down the road from your old house. That place was amazing!)
@VintageOverlandAdventures Жыл бұрын
I had a breakfast burrito there, a burger another time, and a close the third time. Every time I'm near Yermo, I hit the "Burger Den" and the antique store down the street. (Great Prices) The food isn't the best (basic), but I'm happy it's not a vacant building out in the desert. I will always patronize these folks when I'm in town. I wonder if the Sun Valley Burrito eatery is still around. Now I'm hungry...

Another awesome video! I’m digging the music, the longer videos and the extra cool editing bits! I’m new to dual sport motorcycles and I think I’ll be following your tracks on this one sooner than later.

Larry, I need to first tell you that I’m extremely jealous of your access to so much BLM land, I don’t have much here in N Texas. Next, I love what you do with this channel. I like the fact that you go do with your bus what you’re supposed to do with a bus, enjoying it. I found your channel right before you posted about BBB but I wish I had found you before so I could have met you there, maybe next year. Keep up the great content.
@VintageOverlandAdventures2 жыл бұрын
Wow, thanks. I'm not sure if I'll make it to BBB next year?? I need to freshen up my motor & trans and head out your way. :o)
