Great stuff! I look forward to hearing more about the bus and it’s known journey. I really enjoy the videos

Love your adventures! I grew up in the desert in California and owned a 1956 bus that was a “Baja built “ rig. I’ve always loved vans I currently camp in a 2003 ambulance. Just curious about your bus. Would appreciate a walk through sometime. Cheers
@VintageOverlandAdventuresКүн бұрын
Thank You!! Ambulance conversions are great. 😉 I'm planning to do a walkthrough video for 2025 during my next outing. If everything goes as planned, I should be able to post it on March 1. The bus, cameras, and my age are all factors to consider.😂

Crazy ride down the steep area with the bus sliding, Wow! Love the videos I’ve been going back and watching em all! You’re inspiring me to finish up my Baywindow Riviera camper and thanks for picking up all those balloons. Cheers!
@VintageOverlandAdventures3 күн бұрын
Thanks for watching! The balloons are a problem; I saw one wrap around a desert tortoise. I managed to remove it without startling the tortoise. When I told someone this story, they mentioned that the tortoise might think the balloon was food. So, I make it a point to pick them up! It's great to hear you're on the Riviera Now! Good Times Ahead!

@VintageOverlandAdventures9 күн бұрын
The ambience would be at a 10 with a wood stove. I’m with you on the practicality on it. I thought of putting a stove in an Westfalia side tent and use it for a den on multiple days (in one spot) outings/ camping.
@diatonicdoug65258 күн бұрын
@ mine was a walk through. The small homemade stove sat where the shotgun seat was. It was my only heat. It was a big hit at a sleigh ride event. Once I picked up a frozen hitchhiker. He thought I was Jesus. Had him throw a couple more 2X4s in for me

So awesome! I’m so sick of everyone in their fancy unrealistic $100,000 dollars rigs! I mean where’s the adventure? I like the way you are doing it, I had a 1969 VW Westy and people don’t know how capable these vans are over any terrain even without 4 wheel drive, just keeping them running is trick.
@plutocrank12 күн бұрын
Awesome video and angles of the terrain. Found this from your post off google maps. Too bad the 2 frwy is currently closed just a tad too far from this trail head. Cause of the fires.
@VintageOverlandAdventures11 күн бұрын
Thanks, 3N39 It's a nice trail, closed in the wintertime, because of the ski resort and the 8k mountain peak the trail goes over! The angled path over the Granite and a Natural Spring is pretty fun😯 , Winter it may be frozen over??. A Great late Spring / early Summer trip. From Lupine to Cabin Flats is a closed road, but I've seen it's getting used and they're clearing the brush. ?? I would love to go down there if it is okay by a Ranger. Running stream /creek all year around. Fires, When I was in Big Bear for the Soltice Video I noticed it was very dry. Now, High-Wind warning black-outs up there to prevent electrical fires. Peace 🤙stay safe!

Hey SuperDude, they still make those little telescopic twisty spark thingies that mount in one of the frame holes on the base? I got em in my Coleman's and it makes it easy so i dont gotta take it apart every time i wanna use it (plus I'm a lazy cuss!😂) Tim

Ok, new to the channel question... how do you keep oil cool and not overheat Cylinder #3? That motor was notorious for chewing up #3 pistons in heat.
@VintageOverlandAdventures12 күн бұрын
Hey Pack Mule! I use the late-style (Dog House) oil cooler, which does a great job of keeping the third cylinder cool! The engine has stock compression and runs smoothly during regular use. When the temperature hits 105°F or higher, I make sure to take it easy to keep everything happy. With the 87mm pistons, I’m careful not to let the pistons and cylinders overheat. I usually cruise at around 55 mph. I've been enjoying air-cooled VWs since 1981, and I’m proud to say I've never lost a cylinder! Of course, I’ve dealt with dropped valves and had the oil light flicker on some high-mileage engines. Thanks for stopping by the channel and I really appreciate your great question!

@ good deal. It's been decades but I vividly remember pulling a motor with a holed #3. Rock on! It was my brothers bus and it was about 1974.

Yo Larry, great to see another adventure, feeling much better now I hope. Listen, I was thinking, have you ever read a book called, 'Hunting the Desert whale'? by Earl Stanley Gardner. He was famous for writing the scripts for Perry Mason. BUT in the 1950's and 60's he used to take himself off to Baja, in jeeps and anything else he could find, even 2wd motorcycles called 'Tote Goats'.and take a few friends. I'm not talking luxury cabins, I mean camping, roughing it. He said ''every now and then, a man needs to go adventuring '. Shipwrecks, beachcombing, crossing lagoons, finding the whales, exploding cactus , It really is a fascinating book, maybe hard to get now, 1960's I guess, but do search it out, you will love it i know. Cheers Larry.

Double YO! That sounds like my cup of tea! I had a friend that rode a 2wd Motocycle from Ballarat to Panamint City the last weekend the trail was open. I'll look on eBay for 'Hunting the desert Whale book" or Google search it. Thanks!

Hey Stumpy, sorry for eavesdropping, there's a great book about Baja by John Steinbeck, "Log From the Sea of Cortez" (1951) about his adventures in 1940. Good read. I'm gonna check out Earl Gardner's book, too, thanks. Tim in AK. 👍
