Great video! The little foam after filter was added to reduce the high pitch sound of the motor. But it reduces air flow.

I imagine it is there to protect the hepa media from prodding fingers and perhaps also to understate the fact that there is a filter at all. When presenting a Rainbow, the focus is on how well the water and separator do at capturing dust. A honest Rainbow salesman will note that the hepa filter is there and has a use. Not all kinds of dust are wetable, and you run the Rainbow empty at first when you use the shampooer and such.

Crazy how a piece of foam can cause problems. Not sure why Rainbow left it on. Great job on that find.

Rainbow startup sound never gets old. So unique. Interesting to see these results. Rainbow definitely has very good filtration. Seeing that thin foam part restricting the airflow I wonder how horrible the restriction is in many EU - vacuums. They have to be under the 80 dB and many vacuums have a lot of thick foam parts before and after the hepa filter. Often even the pre motor filter has about inch thick foam filter. All this to reduce the noise level. must be like 20 cfm loss.

That black foam is just ment to be a sound dampener. I took it out of my e2 black and my parents e2 black. They all come like that now. Even for the series rainbow. I just take it out and throw it away.

It's quite a unique sound from the brushless motor.

@@VacLab Most brushless motors are. An old hard disk drive is very similar in sound, even though the hard drive has a different brushlesss motor (3 phase synchronous AC on a DC controller vs. the glorified stepper motor of the Rainbow).

Rainbow formally admitted defeat 😃 back in 1998 when they released the first E series machine with an exhaust HEPA filter. Without that HEPA filter, the total particle emissions are astoundingly poor. See my closed room particle tests of my D4C machine.

Random Acts of Video they do use water. The paper helps filter doesn’t ‘have ‘ to be used. It’s there pick up of non water soluble substances you might vacuum up and die them to get a higher rating as a air purifier
@colterkardas41053 жыл бұрын
I will make a KZbin video of this, that you may find different, to say the least... I actually soaked my Black Diamonds filter for like a week, weakening the paper and then carved out the paper cartridge leaving just the plastic housing... why did I do this? Well, as soon as a HEPA filter, especially of the magnitude of the Rainbow filter is added to the rear end of the Rainbow, airflow is drastically reduced... so if I’m going to be doing a real deep clean and need maximum airflow with the Rainbow, I will install the plastic-housing only filter cartridge- but most of the time I have my HEPA in... I also change my water at least twice per room so the water continues to filter properly... I can’t tell you how many times people brought their machines in for a clean and service and they just looked TERRIBLE! I would ask them “How often are you changing the water?” “Oh we change it every time we use it.” 😳😳 “Ok- 2.5 quart water basin and you have 7 dogs, 4 cats, 3 birds, 5 kids and a 4,000 square foot house? No... that water needs to be changed MUCH more frequently... and I also recommend the 4 quart basin.” “You want me to change the water every room? Do you know how long that will take?” 🤣🤣 That’s one BIG mistake Rainbow made with the new SRX... they downsized the basin to a 2 quart!!! If anything, they should’ve made the basin bigger... my house is spotless and I still empty that 4 quart basin on my black Diamond in every room...
