Rainbow - Still I'm Sad (Bob Daisley Rehearsal Tape)

Rainbow rehearsing in studio together with the new line up. These rehearsal tapes are from Daisley's personal collection and haven't surfaced the market to listeners until the "A Light in the Black" boxset was released in January 2015.
The photo was taken by Fin Costello with Rainbow rehearsing at the World Stage in Los Angeles, California around June 1977.

Cozy Powell! This band was fucking awesome! When I was a kid I would put my head phones on and I would put the turn table on repeat and fall asleep listening to Rainbow On Stage. I loved that long version of Catch the Rainbow! I could listen to that over and over!

I really like the sound of Blackmore's solo on this tape ! Maybe some day he'll grace us with his presence and, bring some Rainbow shows to the U.S. ! Haven't seen him since 97 in Detroit . Always small tours in Europe . LLR&R !!

Most decidedly stupid comment that could ever be made about Cozy Powell. No feeling for the drum parts he wrote for the song ? Whatever you understand to be groove to be which does of course depend on what sort of music your brain can deal with. This is music based on innovation not theft...Mr Cozy Powell is no longer in a position to answer for himself verbally, I will just point you in the direction of the bands and guitar players and singers that he has recorded and toured with. Any music that Cozy Powell played the drums on was and is immeasurably improved.

No, not very likely since Still I'm Sad was originally released in 1965 as the B Side to "Evil Hearted You" - a Bo Diddley song- by The Yardbirds. Blackmore was/is an admirer of that group and open borrower from all kinds of people. It's more likely he pulled from Still I'm Sad for the music when he and the rest of the band wrote You Fool No One.
