Good morning boys and gals! This was a solo-filming trip I did around a week and half ago. I was able to get into a variety of species within an hour as you can see in this video. Pautzke Bait's Pink Shrimp salmon eggs worked pretty well. Lots more videos to come as I am just taking off this morning for another filming trip. Be sure to like the video and subscribe so you can be notified when the next one comes out! 😊 Thank you all for the support! Rod

YESSSSS!!!! I was hoping for a new one for this weekend!!! I just got home from a little bit of fishing at our local pond. Got into one rainbow on a jig and float and a pretty good size bluegill on a dry fly and bubble. A couple of beers and a new video. Perfect end to a bit of fishing. THANKS ROD!

Man I fished with a trout magnet bobber and a bb size split shot with just a tiny piece of night crawler and I was missing alot of fish at first as well. I quickly learned to let the fish take it slowly reel in the line until I felt the tugs and then set the hook it was a good day keep up the good work greetings from central oregon

Trout magnets are my go to for our local pond. I use a slip bobber set up with a swivle and floro leader. I pop the jig a few times...let it sit reel a bit of line then repeat. I call it the "liberty pond pop and stop" haha. I can out fish most people at that pond even on a slow day with that set up. White seems to get em for me. what color's work up in Oregon for you?

Great video Rod. I'm wondering where you buy those Drennan Piker floats you use? I've tried most of the local shops and am having a hard time finding them. I'll definitely pick up some of those new pink shrimp flavoured eggs. Thanks.
@FishingwithRod

Thanks! Most tackle stores will carry the floats. If they don't have the size you want, you should ask them to order them in. The supply is readily available from the distributor in Burnaby so it shouldn't take very long for the stores to get them.

Hey rod great vid, will u be doing any pink salmon videos this year? And what month do we see the mass of pinks coming into the lower mainland?
@FishingwithRod
@FishingwithRod 7 жыл бұрын
First two weeks of September is when the mass of pink salmon arrives in the Lower Fraser River. There should be some pink salmon videos.

Hi Rod, How do you keep the fish from inhaling the eggs and having a deep hook set? I know that with a #8 hook and Powerbait, they will often swallow it fairly far.
@FishingwithRod
@FishingwithRod 7 жыл бұрын
Generally I just use a size 4 hook, no smaller, so it rarely gets swallowed. I also try to set the hook as soon as the float goes down, rather than waiting for a few more seconds. This tends to help.

I had so many lucks at Hicks Lake in June and July but things changed no luck in August and September although using many different lures or live baits which trourt cannot resist. I do have a fish finder, big school of fish just belowed me no bite at all. I go home with empty hands last two weeks. Does trout more attractive insect in August and September as i see too many large size dragon flies and other insects?
@FishingwithRod
@FishingwithRod Жыл бұрын
August is a tough month as it is the hottest month of the year. Water temperature increases, so they are not as willing to bite for sure. Just FYI, you actually can't use live insects for bait in lakes.

Hi Rod! I'm looking for a long light-action spinning rod like the first one you used in this video (for float fishing, casting light Krocodile lures, etc.) Can you recommend a particular make+model?
@FishingwithRod
@FishingwithRod 7 жыл бұрын
The one I used in the video was custom built from a 5wt fly fishing rod blank. It's difficult to find a long, soft spinning rod for this style of fishing unfortunately.

Hi Rod, Do you know roughly how many eggs are in your 1.5oz jar? Any idea how long they last before and after opening? Thanks!
@FishingwithRod
@FishingwithRod 7 жыл бұрын
I don't know how many eggs, maybe three hundred? :) Each jar can last quite awhile once opened. I've had opened jars left in the garage for months and they are still good.

Rod, where can we purchase the Pautzke bait you were using in this video? I went out with my daughters to a lake and we stopped at Cabela’s hoping they would have it but they didn’t. Also do you find a small spoon or the single egg more effective for trout? I flyfish 99% of the time from my boat so not familiar with these methods. Thanks Rod! Tight lines
@FishingwithRod
@FishingwithRod 5 жыл бұрын
vancityflyguy Fred’s has a big selection of Pautzke eggs actually. When the fish are deep down like they are right now, it’s a lot more effective to get them on bait or spoon for sure. In this video all the fish were caught in less than ten feet of water so fly fishing would totally get them too, probably more than bait if you have the right patterns.

How can you tell if a rainbow trout is stocked we are going to hicks lake this week
@FishingwithRod
@FishingwithRod 5 жыл бұрын
Unlike rivers, most trout that are released into our lakes are unmarked, meaning they don't have an adipose clip etc. There really isn't a mark to distinguish hatchery fish with wild fish. With that said, it's fairly easy to tell at Hicks Lake. Stocked rainbow trout are generally a little shorter and fatter, with good amount of spotting across their body. Their fins also tend to be not as nice. Wild/native rainbow trout at Hicks Lake are generally more slender, more silvery with less spots.

Hi Shaun, yes there are definitely shore access points at Hicks where you can fish from, and catch fish too! Right now the shallow waters should have plenty of fish like this video. Park at the day use area and head either along the east or west shorelines.
