I got to hang out with Dave a bit on Monday morning as he was checking my car for an AC leak. My tire tracks were the first on the clean new floor. Dave is a very nice guy, and also a top notch mechanic. Ray struck gold bringing him on.

I totally agree but we also have to take in account, Ray knew the floor would be done as I'm sure he would have had to schedule it and paid to have it done through a contractor with Dave as an assistant. An employee has to be there for obvious reasons and regular business work would have to cease in order for the work to be completed. When you work for someone, you do all work as required and expected, housekeeping is everyone's responsibility. A person performing menial duties does not warrant receiving gifts or bonuses. However.., We can all agree, the main point and take away here is, showing someone appreciation, the tool box is decent, making someone feel good about themselves is more valuable.

My granddaughters fiance is a good, competent mechanic who likes the craft. However he left wrenching behind because he couldn't find a position that would respect him. Promised wages would only be paid on jobs on commission but they didn't have enough work to provide a full time job. That is one example.

Yes. That’s why I painted my garage walls semi-gloss white when I first bought my house back in 2004. I was thinking about how the lights will brighten up the garage more with the white paint. Every one else in the neighborhood left the dry wall unpainted.

The old pipes in the bathroom were so old and clogged that the owner had the tear down the whole bathroom to fix it all. So we got a brand new shower and bathroom. It is so nice to go into a new shower and flooring that I'm sure you'll enjoy walking into the shop even more now with the new floor. Also thanks for showing that whole trailer stuff. I've never had to do any of that and I still learn a thing or two.

It's sad that almost no shops take care of their floors, even large dealerships that make millions in profit off the backs of mechanics will make everyone walk around in oil stains for 20 years. They're supposed to be acid-cleaned & re sealed every few years for safety reasons alone.

One of those examples where sometimes, getting fired (or forced to leave let's say) can be the impetus to going ahead and taking the leap into something you were meant for. It certainly take a certain kind of self-motivated person to do it, but you and your wife both have the skills and work ethic to do it, and have done a good job finding good people to help. It's amazing to see the transformation of that old shop into what it is now! :)

The floor looks awesome brother. The chain being crossed does cradle the released hitch coupler and does prevent further damage. Now I have never found a trailer detachment to be from hitch failure. They have all been operator error. Most being from people using a 2” ball on a 2. 5/16” hitch coupler. Others are not hooking up the safety pin and then my favorite did not close the coupler at all. You and I are very alert to what can go wrong. But there are people that think trailer towing is just trailer towing. We fortunately know better.

Crossing the chains also gives you more turning radius since the chain on the outside radius on the trailer end is actually on the inside of the radius on the tow vehicle.

The floors did look a little rough. I never thought too much about it because I have been amazed at how well you have done since you left that other job. The shop looks good , now you have to get the last part done or keep it for those “ messy” jobs . The last time I jumped out of my truck I was in my 60’s - that was the last time ever . Old injuries from my past caught up to me , so one major surgery later I use a cane now to walk , no more jumps at 77 . Stay safe have fun , welcome back.

Those 34" full bank boxes are nice and hold more stuff than you would think, the series 3 US Generals are literally tool truck quality & should last a life time. Thicker gauge steel than the Husky options while costing less. Harbor Freight has some solid tool & storage options between ICON & US General but people haven't really accepted that yet. Congrats Dave.
