Our Turbo Predator 670 dragster returns for another round of upgrades. In today's episode, we install wheelie bars and 2 step launch control on our slingshot rail car. The Harbor Freight Predator 670 V twin engine is making serious horsepower thanks to the turbocharger, methanol, performance parts from Performance 670, and the Haltech Elite 750 ECU. We went as quick as 7.11 at 91MPH in this episode, making it the quickest pass yet!

You guys need to redo the wheelie bar brace ASAP!!! There needs to be a plate on the frame at the top attachment point. If the welds, or bolt fails and it’s on the bars, that adjustment rod is going into your back! I’d also put “walls” around the edge of the plate so if it does fail it’ll be caught by those walls… 👍🏻

Finally a 2 step 🎉. Use the green button tap and lock a relay that is earthed on a brake switch. That way the 2 step comes off as soon as you release the brake not brake and thumb. This is how I've wired it in my vehicle, except it's on the clutch. Same with my daughters dragster.

Pretty sure with the Haltech you could add a brake switch as an input then in the 2 step calibration add the brake pedal as a condition, so it needs to see the green button and brake before it will 2 step. As soon as the brake is released it wont 2 step so you don't need to let go of the button with perfect timing, you can be a little slower about it. Not 100% sure on that, but by all accounts Haltech customer service is amazing and they can and will talk you through it over the phone.

If yall are still dealing with the overboost, I noticed that y’all’s exhaust flange on the turbo sits very close to the watergate flapper not allowing it to open as much as it wants to. I’d open the exhaust flange to allow the waste gate flapper to have as much room as it wants when it goes to opening. Hope that makes sense!! Love yall and y’all’s content

True North Turbos... up here in Canada makes a wikid lil oil feed/drain fitting that extends the mounting surface out so yall can actually tighten the fitting without a "custom grind wrench!" and yall need a small shock absorber on your "adjustable" wheelie bars... will help with wheel hop, your not hitting the tire as hard and as fast... there is some tire strike absorption in the shock on most decent wheelie bar kits. And i also feel it may in time start to run to the right if you dont finish the X in that bar. the right side will flex way more than the left.

Something to be aware of when using a copper head gasket is that you have to anneal it before you torque the head down. That makes it softer and more crushable when you tighten everything up to spec. The trick is to get it red hot with a torch and let it cool naturally.

My heart jumped just a little bit when I saw the sparks fly from the rail cart. You might want to revisit the problem with the axle flexing by setting up a GoPro pointing at the axle during launch, just to see what's going on under there. It's looking like you need to be able to adjust your wheelie bar to different heights independently on each side to keep the rail out of the barriers. Be safe out there guys! Looking forward to seeing your next video!

If boost pressure (or even exhaust back pressure to a certain extent) is greater than the turbo's oil feed pressure, air will displace the oil in the bearings and you'll have another dead turbo. Might be worth considering if you haven't already

Either o-ring the head or go with a thick copper gasket. I've never heard of needing silicone to go along with a head gasket unless you have a coolant leak due to a poor machined surface. Now I have seen plenty of shade tree mechanics goop up gasket surfaces with silicone. But that's about it..... If anything silicone is going to make it easier for the compression to push the gasket out. If anything it will act as a lubricant making it easier for the gasket to pop. Worse comes to worse get a can of that copper gasket spray and use it very sparingly

You measure mating surfaces by using a straight edge, preferably one that's true and like a 5 tho feeler gauge. Measure corner to corner and then split the over all width of the head into 1/3s and measure at each surface along the straight edge. If there's no huge out of spec gaps your surface is true.

If you put a stiff shock on the upright bar in the wheelie bar it’ll allow for SOME movement in the wheelie bar. You’ll for sure need some movement in the bar so the chassis doesn’t take the brunt. Only reason several cars have a solid wheelie bar is because they have suspension and really soft sidewall tires that allow crush.

@WyFoster Yeah,key words here is O ringed,and Hondabond isn't silicone,isn't slippery like silicone... I've been building engines and racing them from 700+ Cid supercharged monsters all the way down to 3hp B&S flat heads,and never once have I seen anyone else use silicone on a head gasket of any kind.. Base gaskets,sure,rocker covers,yep,side covers,of course,timing covers way too often,intakes and diff covers yeppp,but never once before on any type of head gasket... Plus high compression,high heat and silicone don't work together unless one uses a special high temp sillycone for the heat properties but it still won't make a head gasket seal any better than 2 perfectly flat machined surfaces will,but to each their own ...
@WyFoster

@@Wil_Liam1 Steve Morris literally used Permatex Ultra Black on a copper head gasket like a video or two ago. Hondabond is literally high temp silicone.

At 51:49 it sounds like the float bowl is being sucked dry at WOT, and by the time you restart it the bowl is full enough to start and idle properly. My brothers 1200 sportster build did that, about half way through 1st gear it would fall on it's face and die. Until he got the float adjusted properly.

Wheelie bars used heim joints for that reason to keep the wheels in the alignment and then you can use the heim joints or the turnbuckles technically to make sure that they're in a correct adjustment

For the headgasket, you should put the hondabond(or permatex ultra grey) on your index finger, and then rub you thumb on it and "pinch" the gasket top and bottom as you rub the sealer on with your fingers. This will apply a superbthin coatbthat wont squish out into the cylinder when you install the head. This works great fir any paper gaskets you want to ensure are leak free also. I do this for diff covers, water pumps, timing covers, etc... And never have leaks. Ive also done this on the gx160 on my old gokart. Never had an issue, though it had a single layer stamped steel hg, not copper. Copper is typically used when you have a fire ring installed and a reciever groove on the head.

Dragsters (any serious engine) will use a copper gasket, stainless o ring on the block and a matching receiver groove in the cylinder head. You will end up doing this.
