I paid $5K on a 2019 Ford F150 with 80K miles for a drive shaft, seals, gears etc, a rear end rebuild. All I had was a wining noise coming from the rear caused by a bad pinion bearing and crush sleeve. Well Ford changed parts in the middle of production and the older parts were no longer available. The newer parts could not mate with the older parts, they beefed up'ed the rear in mid production. This was not at a Ford dealer but a well known reputable shop that specializes in this area. Contacted Ford before authorizing repairs and they said have a nice day, said the same thing with the catalytic converter 5K out of warranty. Next truck WILL NOT BE a Ford, not cause of there vehicles but because of their lack of taking some ownership of my issues.

Ray, you should do a "Clear flood mode" on the engine before starting it for real to prime the system with oil after such an overhaul. Either with the gas pedal to the floor, or for the models that don't support that, pulling the ECM fuse so the engine can't start. Crank over for at least 60 seconds. Let the starter rest to cool, then prime with fuel and start. As for always using OEM parts setting off the comments section, it might be good to mention that OEM's use multiple suppliers that make parts for them under the Motorcraft etc. brand names so even though you can have all sorts of parts stamped "Motorcraft" they can actually be from multiple different suppliers. OE's do this all the time, so it's quite possible the brand of Phasers you are using are in-fact a supplier to Ford under the Motorcraft name usually along with selling their own house brand of the exact same part.

Only one minor critique, Ray: I would have made sure the journals in each of the cam caps were oiled just because the cam cap journals are more prone to wear from the pressure from the valve springs. I know parts and labour aren't cheap anymore, but I wonder if it would be cheaper to buy a new engine rather than repair this one. Whatever the answer might be, I always enjoy watching Ray doing the repairs and explaining every step of said repairs.
@omardevonlittle38175 сағат бұрын
Buying the unknown for more than this cost... not like they make this motor anymore so you're getting a used one... that you know nothing about vs this pristine engine you've meticulously maintained.. a 5k rebuild after 20 years is acceptable in my book.
@TonicofSonic4 сағат бұрын
@omardevonlittle3817 This is not a rebuild this is a timing job. They rebuild these engines in mass with all new parts. I personally agree with the post. You either put 5k into a 200k engine or you put 10k-13k into a zero mileage engine. Given the situation Iwould have ran 10w40 with motorkote and this engine would have run another 10-25k easy then swapped it with a rebuild.

Not to be a crazy critic here, but those engines do not have "lifters"...they have lash adjusters, and they do not have "rockers", they have roller cam followers...in spite of what seems to be common terminology. I also thought the phaser bolt tightening sequence was 30 ft lbs followed by an additional 90 degrees...maybe that's 90 ft lbs ??? Also, hoping you put in the newer style followers for better oiling. Good choice on the Melling HV pump. Maybe it's coming in the next video, but it would be great to show a detail of a bad follower. Don't forget the crank trigger wheel...ask me how I know...Most of us have no idea how hard you work, and how difficult it is to lean over the front of a truck for many hours where everything is hard to reach. It's gonna run like a new one soon. Greatly enjoy your videos!
