Hey Craig...i bought a seizedup 1980 kz1000...put oil in all spark plug holes to the top. Waited several months . Periodically trying to kick it over. After a year i took the head off and used a block of wood and hammer...just like you did...and got it free...cleaned it up replaced gaskets and rings and it runs geat to this day! Love your videos!

This channel has been a huge encouragement to me. I am currently rebuilding with my teenage son a 1979 Yamaha IT400. It sat for 35 years. Stuck piston (as bad as this Kawasaki), stuck bottom end. New piston, ring, crank rebuilt, new main bearings. I get the crank back tomorrow and look forward to having my son see it start for the dirst time.

If there is one thing I have learned from all your videos it's how to dismantle, clean, and reassemble a carb. Luckily haven't had issues with the 2 on my kawasaki but I did have problems with my lawn mower carb and thanks to the knowledge I've gained watching these videos I tackled it without any hesitation and now it runs better than it has in 2 yrs :D

Yaaay. Two-stroke Friday! It's not just the money. Most motorcycle dealerships around here wouldn't know how to work on it. Young staff who've never touched a two stroke road bike or seen one in the wild. A two-stroke motorcycle going down the street is an extreme rarity these days even in places where such things are collectable. For many dealerships, it's, plug into the computer to find out what's wrong then replace major components, (ie; whole engines, lol),. Too many chips and code. Fifty years from now, this two stroke could likely still be restored to working condition, (if the governement allowed it 😒),. The computer chip bikes,...probably in a land fill.

I got a cheap JR80 because the owner thought he blew it. Turns out upon dismantling for new piston rings I noticed the exhaust was very very oily . Turns out he was running oil in the fuel as well as the oil injector unit and totally clogged up the muffler . Bike ran great for years after 😂

Fun stuff! A trick I use with pistons and sleeves removed. Tie elastic cord or banding from the top of the arm to the frame or something inline. This keeps things from striking while allowing the frank to spin. Keep at it. Love what you guys do. I have bikes from the 1920's to the late 1990's. Love the older stuff. I still think of late 80's bikes as modern! Ride safe!

if it’s going to sit in a uncontrolled climate, fog the cylinders, drain all the gas drain the carb and put good oil in it while it sits. refog the cylinder once every 4 months depending on how humid your state is.

yes - you are supposed to put rags around the crankcase to stop dirt going in. I would have pulled apart the whole motor before re-assembly and starting up. They probably damaged the crank bearings and did all sorts of other damage.

@@steveoswin6084 - more than an animal - he has possibly ruined that motor. I did a similar job back in the 1980s and used a product called Redex to remove carbon from the piston and rings and ports. It took one week of soaking. I never broke any rings or did any damage. I also split the cases and replaced all worn bearings and any other parts. The way he hit the barrels with that wood he risked breaking a cooling fin off and most likely he has cracked a cooling fin.

Craig, thanks to you I worked on my SV650 that got oil overfilled by fuel. Did a vacuum petcock rebuild, vacuum fuel pump cleaning, rebuild of the carbs, syncing them, doing the TPS sensor, fixing the charging system, checking the valve clearances (fortunately all in spec). Of course nothing goes fine the first time. First the carbs flooded the cylinders again. I thought the needles don't seat but nope, it's the orings around their seats. Changed them, then ran too lean. Changed the orings on the choke plungers. Then the bowls leaked, changed the gasket there too. Middway of all that the vacuum diaphram didn't want to stay in its groove for the cap, so I had to RTV silicone it in place (just on the edge). Then when I was ready to go it only ran on one cylinder, cause I knocked the coil wires off when putting on the airbox back in. Fixed that, heated up and what? Both hoses from the radiator leaking. I raged so much I threw my wrench on the ground, because a simple repair took me overall like 4-5 days of work. Now the bike finally reached 11.5 RPM instead of 9 and runs butter smooth for a V-twin, even in very low rpm cruise. I hate how a single part that I have to order stops my work for 2 days, but man, fixing your own stuff is fun, even if so tiring.

Craig I ran across a guy that came up with a home recipe for rust removal. You can make 5 gallons for the price of 1 gal of evapo-rust. It works really good. 1 L of water 100 g of citric acid 40 g of arm & Hammer laundry booster. A squirt of dish soap. That's it it works really really really really really good. By the way I met you at the off-road games. We talked about tank coatings

What i read but was also taught, use the broken end of the ring to clean out the ring groove. Sounds 1960s, which it is, but it works.
