Hey Sam! I’ve only just scratched the surface, but I have found your content to be most enjoyable and helpful as I begin to develop my own sharpening practice. Thank you! I am curious about that brush you are using to deburr. Care to share more about that? Also, do you have anything out there that highlights your serrated knife sharpening process? Thanks again!

Well welcome to the fun rabbit hole. There is so much knowledge, and even I have only scratched the surface. The brush is a bristle hair brush, commonly used for hair or beards. Just type in military hairbrush on google and you should be able to find something similar. 😊 I’ll have to go back through my videos and see. I think I briefly talk about it in one of my earlier videos, but it would be a good topic to cover again. 😊

@@Samsmobilesharpening Thank you for the info on the brush! Interesting… who knew that a “military hairbrush” is a thing?!? 🤷♂️😆 I sure would appreciate any info you’d be willing to share regarding sharpening serrations. I’ve been struggling to come up with a quick and effective way to sharpen serrated knifes and that it’s something I’d like to be confident with before I dare offer my sharpening services to my local community. Thanks again!

Just re-watched this video. Still good. Haven't bought a power source yet but did pull the trigger on a Bucktool 1x30" low speed machine. Really like it so far. What are your preferred belts?
@Samsmobilesharpening6 ай бұрын
@@dozierlester3971 nice one of my sharpener friends uses that for mobile. It’s a sweet tool! Especially since the other side you can do the leather discs and not have to worry about a leather strop. That generator is amazing! I’ve done 3 oil changes on it since I bought it. Runs like a champ! I personally have been using red label abrasive belts. For the 120grit. Their edge core ceramic are amazing and generate no heat even with the harbor freight 1x30. I’m waiting on some other grits from them, but I would say at least Get 120, 600 and then the leather for stropping. You can also get some lower belts like 36-80 for lawn mower blades or some other hard abuse tools.

How do you mount the angle guide backwards like that? Thanx
@Samsmobilesharpening8 ай бұрын
It’s actually made that way. There are two different ones to choose from. Edge leading, towards the belt. Or edge trailing, away from the belt. I just got the one on amazon that was edge trailing. 😊 if you don’t have luck finding it. Just leave another comment and I’ll see if I can get the link for Amazon.

Hi Sam, I am using Diablo belts nowadays. May I ask you what is the brand of ceramic belts you recommend? Thanks a lot.
@Samsmobilesharpening4 ай бұрын
@@redangrybird7564 red label abrasives!!!! I love the company! The support. And the fact thay they want to make new things. I got some new belts from them I think you will be Interested in! Super unique!!!! But regardless their ceramic belts are a must have for me. They cut extremely cool. And extremely fast in comparison to the Diablo belts. The Diablo ones work great for high pressure. Due to the abrasive. But ceramic cuts better when light pressure is applied. 🙂 it's fun to look up the abrasive materials and see the strengths and weaknesses.

@@Samsmobilesharpening thanks, Diablo belts are easy to source here in Australia, I think Diablo belts are prefered for wood work. I will search for the belt you mentioned. Thanks again 😎👍

@@redangrybird7564 that makes total sense. Diablo belts are easy to source here too. The red label ones I have e to order online. You might check out currycustom cutlery. I know he sells belts. That would be a good step up. 🙂

so....that brush is effective at burr removal? do you still use the ken onion work sharp?
@Samsmobilesharpening7 ай бұрын
The brush is extremely effective! I learned the trick from salon scissor sharpening. Made a huge difference! Especially when you are trying to keep a toothy edge when stropping. I’ve stopped using the worksharp. Honestly the cost for the unit as well as the belts is not worth it. The 1x30 or 1x42 belts are basically the same cost but last exponentially longer. Honestly is worksharp made the Ken onion in a 1x30 or 1x42 I would look into that. But it started falling apart after a year. And the motor was not really suited for long term running. More the occasional hobbiest.

Congrats on the generator, I almost pulled the trigger on one last week. Initial thoughts?
@Samsmobilesharpening8 ай бұрын
I’ve only used it for about 5 hours so far. But runs great, easy to start, high quality, and runs the 1x30 with ease.

Why did you grind a few tips on them knifes?
@Samsmobilesharpening8 ай бұрын
A few of the knives were sharpened incorrectly and washed out the tips. (Severely rounded) so me doing that little bit on the back gives them at least a bit of a tip. A lot of the time it can really help get a nice sharp tip back on a knife. Not always needed, but a good trick.

Hi Sam my name is Orlando and I live in Southern California I really enjoy your videos. I want to start sharpening in my area and I was just wondering how did you start getting your customers did you send out flyers. door-to-door. or just word of mouth? Thank you for your time.
@Samsmobilesharpening7 ай бұрын
Hello Orlando. I started by finding local Facebook pages in my area. They typically let you post once a week. Marketing is by far the hardest part of the business! But there are a lot of great resources to learn from. 😊 you can also go to your neighbors and family/friends. They can really help spread your name. I run Facebook ads as well now, but here soon I think I may try google ads since that has a broader reach. But only way to know if it works is to test it. 😊 hope this helps, and if you have any other question just let me know, and I’ll see if I can answer them for ya.
