Hey all, the weather is starting to get too cold here in zone 7a for staining outdoors. So I'm gonna finish up this video series in the early spring (when everyone will be more garden bed crazy anyways!) In the meantime, look for some late fall harvest and winter garden planning videos from me soon.

Thank you to the many, MANY commenters who waited patiently for this video! You guys are sooooo amazing. I desperately needed the support and virtual hugs this year. More videos to come. April is BAAAAAAACK and I'm so excited about what next year's gardening season is going to bring! 🍀🍃🌱

This has to be the best tutorial for raised beds that I've ever come across. You break it down into very simple task and steps that anyone can follow.

Thank you Roger! I'm glad I was able to make it approachable!

I've been watching a bunch of these videos and these are certainly the most aesthetic & functional garden beds. I am 100% going with this design.

Wow! It's so good to see you sharing again! Great tutorial! (When I built my beds five years ago, I figured I needed about two yards of soil to fill them. To prove my lack of math skills it ended up NINE yards.)
@ReSprout3 жыл бұрын
So glad to BE back, you have no idea! :-) And yes, it always takes more soil than you think. I never seem to have enough compost, no matter how much I make. For some of my later beds, I was so starved for material I started doing a lasagna garden method, just layering the bottom 8" or so with horse poop and leaves and let it sit over the winter. Topped it off with finished compost in the spring. That saved A LOT of money and effort. I can find TONS of free horse poop and fall leaves around these parts.

Yay! My daughter and I built several boxes this spring. I think we will follow this tutorial next time : )

Oh! I'm so glad! I always regret not building something more solid for my first beds, but that's how it goes. The garden is ever-changing and ever-improving. :-)

💚 Those are great beds and the size is fantastic for having lots of vegetables. I am amazed by your woodwork!!! Great video and looking forward 💯 to to the next one.

Yes, they are enormous! I planted a whole bed in cantaloupe this year and I think I got over 20 cantaloupe all on the same day. Clearly I did not think THAT through... 😂

Yep! Everything you said. My first beds have about two more seasons in them and when I rebuild yours will be my template. Nicely done. So refreshing to see a woman doing the woodwork instead of watching girls pass off the job to their husbands’ or handymen. Good job 👍
@ReSprout2 жыл бұрын
That's how I got into woodworking actually - I could never find nice looking stuff for my garden! Just a lot of disposable junk. I copy a lot of my designs off of pergolas, decks, and planters and things. The bed is really just an (way!) oversized version of a planter picture I found. ;-)

Followed this tutorial to build two beds and they turned out SO good! Thanks for the clear instructions and the build/buy breakdown. We used doug fir and cedar for the same parts noted in this video and were able to build two 3'x8' beds for ~$230.

Oh that's so awesome!! I don't usually hear from people who made bed. Did you do that crazy corner too? Was it satisfying when it "popped" out? 🤣

I LOVE IT!!! Girl, you are so good with that saw!! You make it look so easy to build beds. I love them being that deep it has to save your back also. I seriously can't wait to see how you stain and waterproof the beds. Have a great night and thank you for the heads up.😊 It's so nice to see you back!

LOL, remember I built like 7 others before this. It was definitely a learning process! (And yes, I'm glad to be back!!!!!!)😀

I would love you to do a video on self watering raised beds....I was just trying to figure out how to do it in my raised bed garden. Love your videos! I was also inspired to build trellises in my garden after watching your trellis video! I want to incorporate vertical gardening as well!
@ReSprout2 жыл бұрын
I love vertical gardening! The only way I could grow so much, definitely. Glad you were inspired by my trellises!

Thank you Simon! The 4x4 definitely adds to the complexity of it, but it LOOKS SO GOOD. 😎 Definitely worth the PITA cutting.

Those garden beds look great 👍 Ours have different sizes because we use reclaimed wood from pallets.
@ReSprout2 жыл бұрын
I keep meaning to use more pallet wood. It's a great resource! I'm just scared of the reclaiming process, LOL.

These are awesome! Wow, so impressed. I don't have this much room, but I really should try making these in a much smaller size for my tiny yard. And cheers to self drilling screws! : ) Love the animation at the end with all that math.
@ReSprout2 жыл бұрын
Hey Jan! You can definitely make these smaller - they're a pretty adjustable design. (And yes, that animation DESTROYED me, LOL. Glad you appreciated it! It's a great program!)

I plan on building one of these for my wife. Thanks for making the video. It became a parallelogram, not a trapezoid. And yes, I tried not to correct you, but my brain wouldn't allow it.

Good luck with the build! Love to hear how it goes. Hopefully yours will not become a trapezoid OR a parallelogram. ;-)

at 0:54 I see those metal corner braces and realized that I bought the same ones a few years ago but never used them. Do you have a video that shows how you used those metal corner braces (with the drangonfly etc.) to build a raised bed?
@ReSprout2 жыл бұрын
Haha! That's to funny! Yeah, I got them for Gardener's Supply. I never used them to make garden beds (I bought them specifically for knock-down cold frames), but they're pretty easy to use. Good luck!

I feel like with the plastic mitre box I am always hitting friction, then I watch you just glide haha. How heavy were the boxes, sorry if I missed that fact. Just wondering how many people I would need to move it into place. Thanks, as always!
@ReSprout3 жыл бұрын
Haha! Yeah I struggled with those things for a long time. The secret I found was having a quality saw (#1!) and keeping it sharp and lubricated. Most of the friction is from lack of lubrication I found. They make special saw oils, but you could probably use cooking oil, too. Never tried it! Just don't go overboard or it'll soak into the wood. Also... the bed was HEAVY AF! 😂 Definitely a 2-3 person job to move it.

How long do these beds last when using that protection amd stain?
@ReSprout3 ай бұрын
I'd say about 10 years. I just started replacing the first two I built this year. They are 7 years old and I did not stain or use waterproofer until 3 years in. (The later ones were stained and waterproofed before they went into the ground.)
