I don’t raise my children with more options. I raise them with limited options so that back in their head they always have this concept of scarcity and not the idea of life abundance.

Totally agree with you. I have 3 kids and we sent to PCF and church kindergartens and holidays. Even classes can be done at the community centres where Aikido lessons were cheap. I definitely would not have agreed to spending 30-40k on kids and household expenses. Live within your means if you can and not over indulge them in unnecessary lifestyle activities to keep up with the Jones

New parents are having too high expectations, and part of the blame is the two-child policies that vastly increased our standard of living. Now we've tasted what it's like to feel richer than previous generations and it's hard to go back. The only solution is for parents to take the hard pill and accept that it doesn't take that much to raise children. Just don't spend on the best pre-schools, childcare, latest gadget and toys, etc.

Totally disagree with you, some couples sacrificing a family because they r not in a position to provide them the best private schools n attend private classes? Then why get married? I hv no issue with this lady spending $30-$40K every month for she can…but majority r just happy to provide the necessity to bring up their children …lucky them they hav sane parents n not being sacrificed…

@@marimo66666globalization + competition quite different these days. Back in those days, we simply needed good grades to get into good schools or get a good job (just focus on studying and we are set). These days, you not only need good grades, tons of internship experience, good CCA/leadership experience to get a chance to go for interviews. (Starting a business isn’t for everyone). Alternatively, you need really good relationships with people from those well connected backgrounds.

Parent of 3 children here, lives in HDB, one budget car, spends about $10 k as monthly household expense to have an average life in sg: - Nursey and pre-school fee used to be a big headache, each child can easily cost S$1.2 k per month; issue solved when they get to primary school; - Travel cost is high for a big family, as still need an extra bed in any type of hotel room; - Requires mummy to be full time housewife, which reduces household income; - More insurance cost - both for necessity insurance and for additional planning ones; - Eating out does cost a lot these days - S$30 is a start price tag in any hawker center; cooking at home costs about S$ 25 per meal (my wife's rough calculation); - Out of Sg travel has better to be within ASEAN region, once a year; - Reasonable level of tuition classes - too many won't work anyway. All in all, not easy, not cheap, but not a S$30-40K thing.

S$30K to S$40K per month is the min. basic requirement for ONE Pass holder (foreigner) to live and work in Singapore freely. It’s reported that this is the top 1% earner for the foreign talent. I guess this salary should count among the top 3-5% overall income earners here. And if this mom needs min. S$30,000 to bring up her 3 kids, it means most other parents would fail their children miserably. So, if she lives in a condo, I guess those below S$10,000 per month can afford only to live in a “zinc” house! She is simply unrealistic, and living or rather dreaming in her own world!!!

I want to be in a financial position such that I can provide the best for the children within the means of my financial capability. Obviously, it is her choice to spend 30k/month. But being able to provide the best doesn't mean I have to make it happen all the time. My teenage daughter wanted to watch Taylor Swift. She queue for it (cannot get it via online queue), paid for it via her own pocket money. She even went for cat 100 on the last day. We want to be in a position to provide the best but it doesn't mean everything needs to be the best.

Now I must warn young parents not to pamper your children like queens and kings. Protected from all harms. My step half sister treated like a queen, unlike myself was not cared for because my actual father abandon me since young. That queen went out of job in early 30s and couldnt find a job till now she is almost 60s. There is a price to pay for spoiling kids. Probably blame all people around her for her own failure and also blame govt, blame whole world.

Actually the lady in the video who say she need 30k per month to raise 3 kids is simply because she is just try to build a case against her spouse in preparation for (or alr in process of) divorce. Her aim is clearly to form a base for inflating the child maintenance fee from spouse after divorce.
@tommytee121278
@tommytee121278 6 ай бұрын
And to call her bluff, I would plead the law maker to amend the women charter to mandate the setup of a common bank account between the divorced spouses, and both parties shall be liable paying the child maintenance fee into the common account, assess based monthly income and net worth. The maintenance shall not be paying into the bank account of the party who has the care and control of the child. With such law being in placed, I am 100% sure the lady in the video will say only need $3000 per month for the 3 children maintenance instead of 30k. SG Women now are not the same as 30 or 40 years ago. And therefore the current women charter no longer applicable

@joshconsultancy yeah, it is definitely high for a typical family but she also factored in allowances for parents, investments and savings (which indicates that they are pretty responsible). So whether 30-40k is sufficient also depends on her plans too. But hey, she is contributing to economy n population! BTW,Thanks for all your analysis. I listen to your videos frequently. Really no right ir wrong on how you wanna bring up your kid. Middle income kids learn how life is unfair and how connections and networks far outrank hard work. Middle income kids brought up as frugal low income kids learn how hard work earns you a fair living. As you work for people who have better connections.😂 Comfortable living is indeed subjective. Bus is comfortable cos there’s aircon but also not comfortable because time is not totally in your own hands. To each his or her own.

At the end of the day, children don't choose to be born, let alone what was spent on them.. If don't want to spend so much for quality then just have 1 child and focus the resources on the child. If want to have more children then try to earn more or try to choose more affordable options. It is not logical to blame the children for having high expenses.
