We need more of this to educate those who believe that eating meat or raising beef has a negative impact on the environment. Bison and other wildlife have been grazing North America for thousands of years. I’m glad more and more of this almost lost information is being implemented once again! Know soil, know life; no soil, no life. Great video!!

Yeah, don't go down the feed lot road; it is a parasitic system.. It makes the cattle and the consumers sick as well as draining all profits from everyone except the Multinationals who will end up owing the lots.

Careful word choice aids understanding: "too much government and big business" invoke manipulative straw-men. Abstractly, in a republic, government champions common concerns, while in a desirable economy, Big business exemplifies efficacy of larger scale. But when perverted, through misappropriation, understanding loses.

Our nation is waking up, seeing the gaping cracks in its factory farm system. Now, people are turning to regenerative farms as ethical food source. Your video is much needed in this area: THE MORE PEOPLE KNOW ABOUT THIS, THE BETTER. If y'all want to learn more, we have a video: A PASSION FOR POULTRY | *A REGENERATIVE AGRICULTURE STORY* . I would be interested toknow what the herd genetics are, during our pioneering regenerative work in the 70's it became apparent that some projects were failing, or not doing as well as others due to the wrong cattle (genotypes) being used. Breeding and selecting from own herds goes a long way in concentrating the right, adapted genotype for the specific environment and management style. A good article, thank you for covering this project.

We still need more beavers nexts to all the streams and mountains to at least retain water and rehydrate the land that will also help with wildfires especially if they are high in the mountains because they will keep the high ground safe and make less places really dry to where it’s hard to reach

So I thought you moved to Tennessee? Dr Elaine Ingham advised ranchers in Australia. She found 2 brothers willing to make compost on the ranches.Just by composting and drenching leaves in compost tea, she was able to save her average rancher $170,000 US on feed, vet bills, pesticides and fertilizers. She increased feed quality. Forage and berries require fungal dominant compost which is made from leaves, wood chips and manure more than the regular veggie style compost most people have. I would try a little Korean Natural Farming IMO from a forest as a starter for a fungal dominant compost as wood chips and leaves take forever to compost. This is her webinar: Elaine Ingham Part 2 From Barren Ground to Fertile Soil The Sustainable Design Masterclass kzbin.info/www/bejne/bGrWg2ulpb2Xbtk

This whole movement needs to spread to private land as well. I would be more than ok if the government subsidized this method, because it will improve soil, create food, and sequester carbon as well. WIN, WIN, WIN.

Is it possible to do regenerative grazing with horses? I’m about to move to Nevada, the place we’re renting has 5 acres and I’d like to graze my horse in a similar way, but I don’t know if I need to do anything different with a horse?
@wadepatton24334 ай бұрын
I have seen horse folks complain that their animals got too fat using rotational management. I'd guess their horses were on too much pasture and/or didn't get to run/work to burn off some calories. If my grazers got too fat, I'd increase my livestock or let some excess pasture rest for extended periods. Greg Judy is a great guru of regenerative grazing, but he (and I) are back East where rainfall is not so scarce.

Think sheep should be used as part of forbes management...
@wadepatton24334 ай бұрын
Studies have shown (U of Kansas I think) that three-species grazing is best for the land. Two species is second-best. and of course one species is least optimal. In their trials were cattle, sheep, and goats. Each one prefers slightly different food, with lots of overlap. Back east here sheep are great to get some value from the ironweed that covers all cow pastures where sheep aren't ever grazed. Bovines won't touch it, but it grows about every where there is a single head.
@b_uppy4 ай бұрын
@@wadepatton2433 Agreed, as a minimum. I follow Mark Shepard and he uses more variety in his own set up.. Regarding others he has, in some instances, used less variety in setting up for others, whom desire more passive set ups. They need to add sheep in this arrangement, the third leg I leave open. Geese or guinea hens might be appropriate as they are good watch dogs and capable of being more independent, though not entirely. It might be that wild birds can fill the niche of managing pests...
@wadepatton24334 ай бұрын
@@b_uppy Certainly. As you may well know, Joel Salatin has long used chickens both meat birds and layers in his pastures.

So if you were to put two humans in cages next to each other, would they yell for each other? No, but they would be ridiculously stressed. That's almost worse. Just give it a little extra time and they wean them naturally. And yes I have a farm.
@rachelholdt68403 жыл бұрын
Humans are not the same. Our social structure is entirely different. The cows have lower stress when they can see and interact with their calves, even if the calf is unable to reach their udder. I do this every night with my dairy goats so I can milk the mama in the morning. I put the baby in a crate inside the pen where the mama is. Zero stress.
@joshblick3 жыл бұрын
@@rachelholdt6840 The "human" statement was facetious and you're talking about something that your goats are used to doing every night and doesn't last very long. Big difference from the first time out of nowhere. I could also add that I was working with cattle way before you were born so there's that. Just my opinion. But I don't play the ukulele so you got me there.
@kentclark64202 жыл бұрын
Those cattle ranchers are hurting, and I feel badly for them. But it's the cattle and dairy industries in general that have created the drought problems that are destroying them. By clearing the land and causing runoff and soil erosion. Not to mention soil pollution from animal waste. Which makes that land unhealthy to farm. I would suggest if they want to survive, and the planet to survive, to switch to greenhouse farming, since the ground is now ruined. No animals or dairy. Just grow organic fruits and vegetables. Use plant-based and organic liquid fertilizers. No animal fertilizers. Or find land that hasn't been polluted by cattle, etc., and grow organic produce only. Use farming methods that retain water. I know there are ways, like contouring or terracing, crop rotation, and so on. I'm no expert in that, but it can be done, unlike ranching or dairy. Use plant compost and hay for fertilizers. Plus with produce you don't need to worry about animal abuse.
