Raising / Lowering A 69 VW squareback rear suspension || How to re-index VW IRS suspension

In this video we go through the process of raising the rear suspension on a 69 VW squareback, but the process is the same whether you're raising or lowering it. The 69 Squareback uses the VW IRS suspension set-up, so this method can be used for any of the late model air-cooled VW's that use the IRS suspension. So this applies to the Beetles, the other Type 3 variants as well as the Bus and Thing with some slight differences.

Thanks for the tips and tricks. After over a year parked and on non-op, I just got my 69 square running again. Changed the points, added oil, set the time and BOOM. She started rite up🔥👍🏼. This video is a true inspiration for aVW type 3 owner like myself. Cheers

Well I hope your vw friend told you that all type 3s have IRS but this set up is called double joint and the other is swing axle. Also you are missing your end cap for the torsion rod.

I own a 69 squareback as well my mechanic just lowered mine replaced my torsion arms with torsion arms with adjusters on them for fine-tuning the leveling on the car

I've considered going to adjusters in the rear, but all my money keeps finding its way to my 64 bug lately lol

Yes he knows everything about volkswagens 😆you should have popped the caps off the body and slide it out of the end and left the torsion connected in the center and moved the outer end of it

do the Monroe air shocks adjust ride height at all or is it just to make for a firmer ride?

They just firm up the ride bit

Do you just use air shocks with the stock torsion bars?? Is it also in the front on air shocks?

Those Monroe air shocks replace standard shocks. Bit shorter but they straight swap. I only have then on the front of a 1970 fastback
