Is the 2023 Honda Pilot a new midsize SUV worth the PRICE?

FIRST DRIVE: The ALL NEW Pilot is here and Honda has made some big changes to compete with the Mazda CX-9, Kia Telluride, Ford Explorer, Toyota Highlander, Nissan Pathfinder, Chevrolet Traverse & Hyundai Palisade. On the outside there is new sheet metal, 20in wheels, and LED headlights. On the inside there is more room, 9in infotainment system and 10in digital gauge cluster. Under the hood is a 3.5L V6 producing 285HP & is mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission. Is the 2023 Honda Pilot a new midsize SUV worth the PRICE?

Trailsport trim will be my trim if i were to get this suv mainly for not being top trim you get alot of features like panoramic roof, Wireless charger, Full digital display and heads up display wireless car play and android auto, 360 and front facing camera, and something i didnt know 3row air vent. $53K is a hard pill to swallow for any non-luxury brand SUV, but that seems to be the new normal. My only zonk is the Thomas Edison rear turn signals, but there’s good aftermarket LEDs all over Amazon, so it’s an easy fix.

This is the best packaged car in its class. The removable middle seat is so much nicer for family duty, at least with my family of three, than being fixed with captains chairs like upper trims on other brands are and its nicer than being stuck with a bench. For us 85% of the time being able to remove the middle seat and have an easy pass through is the best setup but there are times we need to take an extra kid or want to be able to go three across and maximize cargo space and a car with captains chairs would really fail our family in those situations. Its nice that the Honda doesn't make you choose one or the other. Huge advantage over any other top trim from the competition and frankly in a family car makes much more of a difference than a bigger touch screen. Same with that huge under floor storage. That really matters for actually family use. They also really nailed things like having that cupholder easily accessible in the front door panel and that tray by the glovebox is useful. Really well thought out. Do think I'll wait for the next Odyssey though. The practicality of the Odyssey combined with the newer tech would be perfect. I do wish Honda had done a more premium looking interior design for the price but the practicality is unbeatable and I’m sure it is one of the best in class when it comes to road manners.

Very upscale. I wish they would have increased the horsepower to 300 plus. Something to differentiate it from the Passport.

Just traded our 2022 Passport for the 2023 Pilot Elite and absolutely love it. So much quieter, roomier and smoother ride. Tech is finally up to par with other makes also, Bose stereo sounds great too.

8:22 Also important to note that the new engine is DOHC rather than the SOHC of the tried and true J35. I’m going to miss that engine, as it’s now only in the MDX, Odyssey, and Ridgeline. I’m sure it’ll disappear from those as this new drivetrain makes its way through Honda’s lineup.

I do appreciate that it has meaningfully smaller exterior dimensions than something like the new Pilot. That makes a difference for fitting in a tight garage. But if you need three rows the Pilot is a really clear choice. I look forward to the Grand Highlander.

@6:40 disagree because it’s more functional at the bottom. My Tahoe has it hidden at the top; the problem is that the clean area is at the top where cars in your rear view are not. This especially a problem during winter with all the salt.

Today I own and drive a car with a 12.2” cluster display and 12.2” infotainment screen and I can't accept anything inferior because once you have something similar and get used to it, you can't buy something inferior. For this reason I see comments of… “I have a car with an 8” screen and I don't see any problem”… because you don't have a car with bigger screens… The day you have something bigger you won't go back buying something completely renovated and with technologies inferior to what you have today…

We've been waiting to replace our trusty 2010 Pilot and were hoping Honda would get back to the boxy, rugged styling that worked so well on that version. This is mostly what we were hoping for, though it's not perfect. Let's be honest, the only real competition with this vehicle at the moment is the Palisade/Telluride, and they each have advantages over each other. The South Korean twins mop the floor with the Pilot's comparatively tiny infotainment screen (I would be shocked if Honda doesn't correct this obvious deficiency for 2024) and offer a higher level of luxury (suede headliner, diamond stitched leather, massaging driver seat, ventilated second row), but the Pilot has wireless Carplay, a panoramic sunroof, and the cool removable center seat trick. It's a tough call. I think I'll wait until the Mazda CX-90 is announced before dropping $53k.

At first I didn’t like the new Pilot but now it has grown on me. It’s an attractive SUV. Just only wish it had a bigger screen. Honda dropped the ball on that one. But I guess they don’t want it to compete with the MDX too much.

I would recommend to anyone considering to buy this car right now to wait a few months to see if it cools down a little bit because it seems prices at delearships are not as advertirse by Honda previous to this car very recent release. Just last weekend I was contacted by a seller from Germain Honda of Naples in Florida to let me know they had just received three 2023 Pilot EX-L and one Elite. I went to check them out and afterward I sat down with the seller first and his manager later to talk about numbers. They hit me with a whopping $47,845.00 MSRP for the EX-L. According to what I've seen online I was expecting an $MSRP of $41,950 (excluding destination charges) so, big price increase. In addition, their finance option were totally crazy, they offered me to financing it for 72 months with $1000 down with a monthly payment of $ 961 or to lease it for 36 months for $910 per month with same dowpayment!! Obviously, I walked away from this dealership and have no plans to return ever again. Beware of these people trying to take advantage of buyers in the current market situation. 🤔

Just under $54k for Elite trim is actually not bad. I mean, yea it's not including tax and other fees but even with all that, it might go up to about $63k. Yes that sounds like a big number but for the size of the vehicle is actually pretty good. Their Odyssey Elite with a few packages and options goes up to around $52k without tax and other fees. Similar price, similar size, but very different vehicle. And I love both, especially this new 2023 Pilot.

Not if the Ridgeline has that tiny digital speedometer and 9” iPad on the dash. I love my RTL-E…..I just wish it had the sport mode, new infotainment system, blind spot indicators in the actual mirrors, power folding mirrors plus a heads-up display.

I agree on the Elite trim, Honda needs to move away from adding on the flat black plastic side fenders and it’s not quite Elite if it’s not color match. For a more grandeur look. Major zonk. I love the overall look of this new Pilot inside and out. But, it’s still a little shorter in length than I would like it to be far as it being a mid-size 3 row SUV and the infotainment center is too small for a SUV this size. I mean, the new 2023 Honda Accord, has a 12” system in a smaller vehicle as such. Why does Honda do these things? Lol. 🤷🏽‍♂️🤦🏽‍♂️9.5/10. Price and quality is excellent. Come on, it’s a Honda!

Love your videos. Wife and I have been watching for years. But the flat black on the wheel arch: we’re for it because it prevents a painted surface from getting beat up from rocks/sand coming off the tires. But we do agree with Manufacturers should be tucking thee rear wiper up under the deck lid/lip/spoiler area.

Death to rounded crossovers! I think only Mazda was making good looking ones in the 2010s - but you could argue they still had a sharp line across the hood.

Lots of reviewers zonking the new Pilot because it only has a 9” infotainment system…..why do you need a 12” system? This focus on screen size is getting a little crazy. I’ve driven my Gladiator with the 8” screen for 3 years now and never once wished I had a 12” screen……

The new 2023 Pilot is much better, Joe but still not the leader of the pack. For the Elite, would have liked to seen a digital camera rearview mirror, power tilt/tel wheel, vented 2nd row and wheres the black edition? I mean Hyundai/Kia is hearing the third row now!

1. Honda always sticks garbage tires on their vehicles. Shame on you, Honda. This is the elite trim and we're getting Bridgestone Alenza? I hate that I feel I want to change the tires on every Honda we've ever had. 2. No LED lights on the rear? 3. Why no hybrid??? 4. Exhaust note sounds like a wheezing 3rd grader 5. The price is too high by about $4k-5k.

The prop rods are the best it last a life time, in as much as the hydraulic hood looks cool the hydraulic hood opening over time will fail you and u end up needing something to support the hood...

Looks like it’ll be a hit. Not any obvious flaws. Maybe have a hybrid 3.5L V6 option for $2000 that’s FWD just like how AWD is an addition $2000.

I loved this new Pilot and currently have a Pilot and I have always been a Honda girl. However, Toyota got me this time. I turned down a Pilot Elite and just put my name on a Grand Highlander Hybrid MAX. More power AND better gas mileage. I do wish it had that nifty removable second row seat.

My local dealer can't get the new Pilot in stock (it's January as of this writing) AND require $6k above MSRP. People are committing before even driving them. No way that I'm playing that game.

I’ve never wanted a pilot. Ever. Until now! This would look great with slightly more rugged tires and nice black wheels. Competition for the 4Runner maybe? PS I really hope they give the Ridgeline this visual treatment!!

We bought a 2014 because we hated the look of the 3rd gen Pilots. Our goal was to drive it long enough for them to change the design. The 2023 landed perfectly for what we expected and our timeline

After watching the mazda cx90 look review. I came to watch and take a look honda pilot to compare! Mazda looks way more luxurious the elegance the color and the interior hands down to the all new mazda cx90!!

I don't like the hood rod I actually never owned a car with a hoodstick. Always thought they were reserved for the low end vehicles.
