How is it 50% cleaner?
@boboutelama5748 Жыл бұрын
This is NOT a lazy road. This is very difficult to do on a technical side aspect. It's a new engine after all you need to integrate. Whatever, in Europe, we are discussing if this strange 2L i4 trend, actually brings fuel economy. You can see Toyota with his 3.5 V6 hybrids, easily underpass the i4's turbo of VW and Volvo in real world application. If your car is big, you need a big engine. But here is the center of the problem. 10% of the readers in this group need big cars. 90% don't need them at all. Because you don't tow, you don't howl, you don't carry a familiy of 3 and more. And this is the center of the problem. We are generating tons of pollution, just because a faith that big car will keep us safe, when it's totally the other way around.

They could have offer inline6 with turbo and keep price at low 40k to start , having tons more torque and overall better build and finish ....sorry Mazda is and have been sooo much better in design and quality than Honda , for many many years now . Keep on buying Honda so I can get better deal on CX90 😉❤
@jacobneal8090 Жыл бұрын
@k domster I consider Mazda to be more up market and premium than Honda. Honda a already had the J series V6 platform to work with and improve on. It wouldn't have been cost effective to make a new straight 6 from the ground up. The J series is a reliable engine when you maintain it properly. The timing belt and VCM are a headache but can be taken care with relative ease. They make good power for a N/A engine and are smooth. I think Mazda made a good choice by fitting the all new CX-90 with a 3.3 turbo staight 6. They did t go crazy with the power numbers either. It only produces 280 hp but it it makes a nice 332 lb-ft of torque compared to the Pilots 285hp and 262 lb-ft of torque. The plug in hybrid CX-90 makes 340 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque. The plug in hybrids power numbers are similar to the new Acura MDX Type S 3.0L turbocharged V6 witch makes 355 hp and 354 lb-ft of torque without any electric assist. The regular MDX makes 290 hp and 267 lb-ft of torque. All in all I think the CX-90 is more comparable to Acura and not Honda.

I disagree. Watch crash tests from 2005. Cars then met a safety standard which saved lives. With modern materials advances, we could have the same structural rigidity in a smaller lighter shell. @an-dr6eu Жыл бұрын
Size doesnt matter but the weight. And a Pilot is not that much heavier than an Accord. A 2L turbo could perfectly do the job while being more simple, reliable and efficient. V6s, even if NA, are just crappy unbalanced engines worse in almost every department than a similar 4L. People always gets dupped because of the 6 cylinders thingy, thinking 6 is always better than 4 and other shit like that. The only thing V6s are good for is racing due to their compactness and shorter shafts. It helps in packaging and decreasing parasitary rotational forces.
@10ee Жыл бұрын
@@an-dr6eu A Honda Pilot is over 1000 lbs heavier than a 2.0T 10-speed auto Accord Sport, for example. That is a significant weight difference. To allow for usable tow capabilities, which is a common use case for these types of vehicles, there is literally no replacement for displacement, or you end up going diesel. 6 isn't necessarily better than 4, but in this use case, I believe it is. Otherwise you're going to look at a larger 2.4/2.5 litre turbo 4 which will need balance shafts anyway.

I wasn't able to get her to see past the shinies and superior interior features of the Telluride to see what made the Pilot a MUCH better vehicle overall until she watched this video with me. As an enthusiast, driving all the other 3 rows was a nightmare. The driver inputs, body control, and suspension characteristics in the competition are absolute garbage compared to the new Pilot. We regularly make a 2 hour drive through very twisty roads and that drive really shows the Pilot's capabilities. We've both been shocked that it handles those roads significantly better than her previous car, a 2019 X3. In the X3 the driver would be exhausted at the end of the drive because keeping the X3 on the road was such a chore. It even came with adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist and has the best headlights for nighttime visibility. I can see this new Pilot is going to be a great one to own.

I'm just going to say, I haven't watched this episode yet, but I know Savagegeese is going to review this vehicle in such a way that they will give me what I need to know about this car before maybe buying it. The other channels seem to mostly just pump up a car and really hit the highlights. Mark and Jack give you what you need to know after the honeymoon has worn off and what this car is truly like to live with, and thats what I love about these guys.

I've been putting off replacing my 2004 Pilot with a new one that I actually like. I was considering the Passport, but it's really boring looking! This one is the one I have been waiting so patiently for. Not only is it better-looking but it seems to fix the things I didn't like about my 2004. Thank you Honda. Hopefully it will last me 19 years as well.

2 row passport with high load floor and a similarly boring interior is just such a utility and resale downgrade from the Pilot. Get the Pilot. - a former Passport owner.

I think it would be great for Honda to show their new off-road interest by bringing back the element as a more or less wrangler/ bronco competitor instead of on these mall crawlers. At this rate we’d see an odyssey trailsport

Yeah I really thing if Honda could out Subaru Subaru, they’d get a huge amount of sales. However, this would mean they’d have to focus on AWD options for the whole lineup (sedans too) like Toyota for example.

I'm kind of picturing a combination of the old element and the Ford Maverick. Give me a small vehicle footprint, with a durable interior and drivetrain, and a good AWD system. A small but robust tow rating (3500-4000) would be nice so i can tow hay rounds and my Miata when it's broken, but that's secondary. The way the back seats come out of the old element to have a flat load floor still has me contemplating one.

Thanks for the review. I am looking for a large SUV to replace my 2015 Sequoia and have driven the Tahoe, Yukon, Armada, Highlander and Traverse. I then drove the Pilot and was blown away like you guys were. The smoothness of the V6 and the usability of the interior has this at the top of my list for a replacement. Thanks for your honesty. Where in IL are you driving. The flat terrain looked awfully familiar.

Wow! Great video! I've watched pretty much every 2023 Pilot video out there while waiting for mine to arrive at my dealer, and this is by far the best video I've seen. The others all focus on the features like cup holders and the removable seat and that's fine to show what's inside the vehicle but you guys showed us what's underneath the sheet metal and how this vehicle drives and handles. Thank you so much. I had a first gen 2004 Pilot which I gave to my mom (she's still has it) when I bought my third gen 2016 Pilot and now I'm just a few weeks away from getting this new fourth gen Pilot. I'm very excited about that but I did look at the Kia, Hyundai, MDX, and the Highlander before making my final decision and I'm glad I stayed with the Pilot - especially after watching this video. The Pilot has never been the glamorous beauty queen of the SUV world, but it does what it needs to do and does it well at a decent price and with traditional Honda reliability. Thanks again for making this video. I really enjoyed hearing from the Honda crew - maybe you could post more of that content - and the graphics were also really nice to see. They gave a much better understanding of the design of the vehicle vis-a-vis the power-train and safety features.

Hearing the engineer talk about making this thing drive like a small car, I wish more companies can say that. Cars and trucks are getting built bigger and bigger and most of them are just slugs on the road. I like the direction Honda is going. Can’t wait for their new Ridgeline to come out.

Have owned our 2023 Pilot Elite for one month. Couldn’t agree more with your assessment. Outside of the steering feeling a bit too light for my taste, driving dynamics are top notch. Honda missed an opportunity though not offering a 12” infotainment display and a few other niceties like digital rear view mirror, larger IP, and LED rear turn signals on the top trim. Overall, very happy with my early build example.

And one more thing - fake exhaust outlets are just plain silly on any car, including the 2023 Pilot Elite. This trend has got to stop!

Really impressive review. I was ready to turn my nose up at this video and write it off because it's a Honda car I myself would never consider purchasing, but the attention to detail on what's really changed from one generation to the next and what sets it apart in its segment, that's the special sauce that you get with these guys. Probably have about 3 comments in my history on KZbin but had to throw some props your way fellas, dump 4 kids into my life and you best believe I'm test driving this ahead of all the competition.

This is my 3rd Honda. Our previous 2 Cars were Honda Accords and biggest selling point for us is Honda’s reliability. However I do have a couple opinions, on the Positive I love the new style, I don’t want to drive something to be mistaken as a mini van. We bought the 2024 Touring, but I feel the Heated steering wheel should have been part of the standard package for this trim level. Needs a little bigger more modern looking Infotainment center, needs a higher resolution rear view camera. I had a 2019 Ram 1500 and that had one of the clearest cameras I’ve seen to date. I love the Bose stereo, I wish it wasn’t so costly to add an OEM tow hitch, should have a small removable access panel to add the hitch instead of the need to replace a large section of the bumper which adds lot of cost to the consumer. I like the ability to remove the middle part of the 2nd row to switch between 7-8 passenger mode. When remote starting there should be a visual indicator on the outside like turn on the parking lights or something, my old Ram truck did that when I started it remotely to turn on the parking lights. Also for interior dash lights, the brightness should automatically dim when you turn on the headlights so it’s not too bright at night, don’t want to keep adjusting brightness between day and night since it doesn’t auto adjust. Also with the 10 speed transmission, when I first accelerate it seems to go through a lot of gears 4 maybe 5 gears already before I even reach 25mph. I just notice it from a cold start but after it warms up normal driving it seems better after. Wish touring trim also had the power folding mirrors. I’ve only had it since Friday which is only 5 days now. If the Trailsport had the Bose stereo I’d opt to get that one, but my dealer only had EX-L, Touring, and Elite trims, no Trailsports on their lot and I wanted a car now. I love it so far minus the few gripes I’ve mentioned but overall nothings perfect and some room for improvement but best choice for me for what’s currently available… ❤

Of the 3 row SUV’s I’ve looked that this competes with you loose the 8 passenger configuration when you go one trim higher than the base model which is key because if you are avoiding a minivan then you’d want to seat 3 across in the second row. Wonderful review as always!

It’s a difficult time for powertrain development. As Mark and Jack points out in a previous video, every new engine that is pumped out is constrained by ever-changing emission standards. Adding turbos to engines is significantly more complicated. There is more plumbing, clamps, valves, electric actuators, etc. And this is without considering the incorporation of a hybrid electric system.

Only question I have is why they don't allow us to switch off the VCM? Make a button? Just to save 1-2 mile/gallon, but the engine has issues in about 3-4 years down the road. One more thing, no locking diff. 2006 honda ridgeline has VTM locks switch. Why don't all of the awd have it?
