saw him live in the 80s decade, right after the 1st release, with LL , who already was a very big name, and Public Enemy who also had their debut album just out and it was clear history was in the making......... BEST decade ever...when it was all true and dope, new times are pissy...

@cobracongo6 жыл бұрын
You saw all three of them together! Wow! Were people in the crowd going nuts?
@MultiMrMiles6 жыл бұрын
totally, it was the time of the wisle crowd, so all were using their whisle, LL had his 2 djs...it was very hard, the beats....crazy really...it was also back than a different crowd, more rugged and rough, people getting robbed of their tickets and shit like that... rap was a mans game, and the people showing up were in that line...But more important, the energy and atmosphere was so special...like i stated...it was like you were feeling something special in rapmusic was lifting off, al those big names entering the platform and years of legendary albums ahead. Public Enemy was just hardly known at that time. I saw Rakim again in the early 90s performing along with Chubb Rock and some other names, but forgot who lol.
@BigBrotherBeat6 жыл бұрын
I also saw them in the 80's, 1987 to be exact, at the Jaap Edenhal in Amsterdam. That was the 87 Def Jam Tour, with LL, P.E and Eric B & Rakim, legendary, still got my ticket. You are correct about the whistles, I remember LL sayin, "whistle posse, my posse!" Co-sign @ the the energy and atmosphere, "Hip Hop used to be so thick in the air". The 90's tour, also in Amsterdam, was Eric B & Rakim, Chubb Rock and Main Source (without Large Professor, cause he had just left the group. Mikey D from the L.A Posse replaced him). The last time I saw Rakim perform, was in 2011, at the Monsters of Rap Festival in Germany.

1986-88 was CRAZY!!! Cats who were just coming up at the time was incredible!! Rakim, Krs-One, BDK, Kool G Rap, Chuck D, Just-Ice, Biz Markie to name a few, but also MY favorites.A native NYer, but fortunate to be stationed in Delaware at the time so I was able to hear what Philly was doing as well as the DC Go-GO scene.Philly had Schoolly D, Steady B & Cool C ( Hilltop Hustlers), 3 Times Dope,Jazzy Jeff, Fresh Prince & Ready Rock C, Cash Money and others.Go-Go: Chuck Brown(" Run Joe"!!!!),Trouble, Junkyard Band, NE Groovers etc...As you get older you realize how fortunate you were to have witnessed first hand all this incredible talent with different styles/genres of music.And sometimes experience it LIVE!!! Ahhh the memories!! When Rakim came out it was like he was rookie of the year!!! Nobody had ever heard that style.Just cool never in a hurry." I'll take 7 MC's put em in a line, and add 7 more brothers who think they can rhyme, well it'll take 7 more before I go for mine, now that's 21 MC's ate up at the same time"...." Thought I was a donut, you tried to glaze me"...were the most quoted words back then.

I love this man's music and Eric B. is synonymous with him, to me they are one. No one can touch Rakim even still today. I grew up loving hip hop, to me it wasn't just New York music cause I grew up in the '80's in West Long Beach California and we was definitely feelin it, still do.
