Wonderful video. I just came upon a 1970 5-speed tourist that needs just this exact treatment.

The boiled linseed oil is a good idea , When I’m restoring furniture I us a reviver made from equal amounts of meths, white sprit , and boiled linseed oil . Works very well , may be worth trying on the next oil bike I have a go at Thank you for another great video

Superbe (pun intended 🙂)! I've not heard of using linseed oil as a preservative on a bicycle frame but there's an interesting (to me) Nottingham link here ... I only ever used linseed oil on my cricket bats which were always bought from Redmayne & Todd - another great Nottingham institution. Looking forward to pt2. Cheers

Plus Gas is your friend for stubborn fastenings. Will make a good daily rider for those local journeys.

I use a 50-50 mix of Automatic Transmission Fluid and Acetone nail polish remover. I watched a few back to back tests against plus gas and PB Blaster and others, where the mix came out on top.

My Superbe is the same year 1958, but it has the rear light integrated into the fender. I guess that they didn't do that on all '58 bikes. Mine has a black rack though, maybe the shop fitted what they had in stock since I assume the rack was an option. Nice work getting that one correctly preserved!

A friend pointed me to this video as I’m planning on doing a similar recommission on a old sunray one speed. Unfortunately the captioning option has been turned off for this video and I am deaf. Would you be willing to turn that option on? Cheers!

That’s a very good point. I can’t find how to do that but I will research it and reply here when I have managed it

In the historic transport world, vehicles or locomotives are often referred to as being In Preservation. Both are good terms.
