ralfy review 683 - Glengoyne 18yo @ 43%vol

Glengoyne 18 is a true gentleman amongst single malt Scotch whiskies. Classic, refined, interesting, elegant, balanced, well-behaved, charming... and not too expensive i.e. not for snobs. You have to shop around though, I've seen price differences of up to € 17,50 (in NL).

Hi Ralfy, it is nice to see a re-review of a whisky you reviewed three years ago. In addition, it is even more 'nice,' for me now that it is available in my area and I have it in my library. I did notice that you malt mark changed a bit from three years ago. Still a good dram no matter the mark difference.

I visited Glengoyne (2016) & yes, it is a beautiful setting. I liked the angel's share soot on the dunnage house. My ancestors came from just south of Glasgow in what is now Moscow, Scotland.

Glengoyne is just lovely and so delicious. I had the 10y, 12y and 15y and I liked each one. so I'm looking forward to trying the 18y and the cask strength

I was at the distillery I think you are reviewing next a month ago well worth a visit as I'm sire you will agree we were the only Scottish people in our group on the tour all the others were from outside the UK made it even better. The distillery only bottles are well worth it... unless it was the other place lol.

21yo, 25yo, Teapot Dram. Oh how I love Glengoyne. Actually I've tasted the 18yo just once on a whisky fair. There are always other bottles getting in my way :D

Hey Ralfy, thanks for the review! Do you mean the "once 12yo but now nas" cask strength version, or is there another 12yo cs out there? PS The Teapot Dram is pretty good, but a bit pricey.

PNWesty jakey is an alcoholic, usually destitute, daff wee schemey is a person who resides in a housing scheme who may be of a criminal nature. I read a few Irvine Welsch novels ten years ago, these terms are used a lot.

Now I am a bit irritated: In your first review you gave Glengoyne 18 91 points. 99% of your ratings range from 82 to 92 points - so 4 points is a huge difference in such a rating spectrum! What happened? Is the bottle really so different? My impression was you enjoyed it quite much. So why 4 points less?

The glengoyne of 3 years ago was no better than the one of today, that is a fallacy. I get a bottle every year and it has not changed hardly at all. Just regular variations in barrels used. As good today as it was 3 years ago. My guess is Ralfy rating is a little more discerning today than it was 4 years ago. I will say, glenlivet 18 is good but not as good as this, so it certainly should not have been rated higher, though it is not heavily sherried like goyne is.

@ralfy I tasted the Glengoyne 12, 15 & 18 year Old at tasting in The Netherlands. I liked the 15 year Old the best, most complex (even then the 18 year oId) like to mention this 15 year old Malt.

Ralfy how does a (Glenfiddich) Solara cask work if u'r alwayz adn fresh malt 2 th cask? is it an oldr malt that gets 15yo "fresh" malt added 2 tht oldr malt? on th face of it, its a bit confusin cuz if yur adin fresh malt 2 a 15yo, thn its no longr a 15yo ...rite? we need a RalfyRevu on true Solara caskin...frm wines 2 malt.
