"light flavours, intensely delivered"...you have pretty much summarized my core principle in terms of collecting whiskies :)) Basically, that is what Balblair is for me for example

I picked up the 10yo version last year from Royal Mile Whiskies; it's beautiful stuff. Just had James Eadie Benrinnes 13 Madeira cask finish too. That blew my malty mind! And very good price considering the high quality of spirit and cask used

I've still got a dozen bottles of Hart Bros. Linkwood 10 year old @ 46% left from 27 I grabbed at big discount prices years ago. I used to always have an open bottle on the shelf until early this year. Very oily, pale straw colour and no stand out flavours I can get but it always makes an excellent blend with most other whiskies on my shelf. I'll have to crack open one of the six bottles of Bailie Nicol Jarvie I stashed away years ago too!

I've not explored independent bottles enough as I have mainly focused on distillery releases, especially ones I have collected during my travels around Scotland. I'll keep my eye out for this one!

I finished sharing a bottle of Linkwood 19 at Cask Strength (by Signatory) with friends and thoroughly enjoyed it. It was pleasant reprieve from the heavily peated or sherry monster styles that are in vogue today. I highly recommended it.

A few years back, I found a 15 year Linkwood bottled by, I think, Signatory. Decent stuff. Then I blended up my own version of Johnnie Walker Green with it and Caol Ila 12, Talisker Distiller's Edition and Cragganmore 12. That was very tasty.

Good vid. That's the thing I'm most interested in. The obscure, under the radar independent bottlings of good single malts. Too bad I don't live where the selection is as good as where you are (US for me). Other suggestions would be great.

Hi Ralfy, You mentioned Bailie Nicol Jarvie and well... about 12 years ago I was living in Scotland, not a clue about whiskey but we had a bottle of BNJ 8y/o blend in the cupboard. My girlfriends parents had given it to us not even as a present but to put in hot toadies, cakes etc. For me it was the 1st scotch I really, REALLY enjoyed. By then I had already tried Ardbeg 10 - too much for me at the time (but not anymore).

Tried numerous Linkwood's here in Vancouver. Only way to get 'em here is the SMWS bottlings which are always single cask un-chill filtered, natural colour and cask strength with an age statement.

Hi Ralfy. Do you feel that the dominant notes (sour, bitter, herbs) are due to the profile/character of Linkwood, or would you say it's more to do with the cask?

I haven't visited in a while, I'm glad I popped in. Question, for a malt that you raived about... why an 89? I thought you were going to bust out a 94!

I have been seeing at a local shop in my area an 8 year old Linkwood independent bottling but haven't brought myself to buy it. Seems to continue to collect dust on the shelf. 🤔 We have to pick and choose wisely which bottles to buy!

Ralphy, I had a Linkwood 15 from G/Macphail and it had obviously been tainted somehow. I remember the nose smelled almost like rotten meat, sickly sweet almost, and it showed up on the palate as well. I sat on it for about a year and it never dissipated. What do you think that might’ve been?

Well, aren't the Diageo Flora & Fauna Linkwood 12 and G&M Linkwood 15 (Distillery Labels) the quasi original bottlings of Linkwood? One from ownership point of view and the other from a historical point of view.

Very interesting and honest review. As usual btw. Sounds like this whisky has absolute personal character and rare individuality. Just like my own stuff. So, Ralfy, instead of buying you stupid patreons and sending anoying malt mentions why me not to send you a 50cl. sample to evaluate my masterpiece. I bet it will be interesting.
