Ralfy do not listen to the haters I am always down for you reviewing rum
@johngo37153 жыл бұрын
Ralfy, kudos to you for not listening to those who tell you to stick to whisky. That means more malternatives for us. These kind of folks, who most likely have been brainwashed into thinking whisky is the pinnacle of sprits, don't know what they're missing. Also, it's very much worth supporting Barbados rum completely aged in Barbados. More money goes to the country and the producer.

Like with our beloved single malts, it all depends on the cask the rum was aged in. My personal experience is that independent bottlings of Foursquare are generally not as flavourful as the official releases and I'm blaming it on lesser quality casks. But as you rightfully point out the OBs are getting increasingly expensive and difficult to find. It wasn't long ago when the releases were just sitting on the shelves. Alas...

The 2007 official bottling is the best rum that I have ever had the pleasure of owning. I did a zoom tasting with a local whiskey club here in Seattle. The owner of Foursquare walked us through the range. Personally, I dont think that they need more than 12 years really. The 16 year did not improve that much given how active maturation is in a hot climate.

I have family in Barbados so last time I was over there (a couple of years ago) I brought back 2 bottles each of Foursquare 2007, Premise and Dominus. I think you had done a brief video about how they were getting hard to find so I brought them back to the US via the Duty Free shop on the island. I just had a look online and the Foursquare Exceptional Cask series is actually readily available here in Texas (and reasonable... $59.99 for the Premise). This means I'll be cracking open a bottle over the hols! Going back to Barbados in March so I'm interested in this other distillery you mentioned at the end. I've been to St Nicholas Abbey which was great! Cheers!

Your reviews of fine rum are much appreciated here, Ralfy! Please show us more of these whenever you can - as a confirmed Scotch whisky aficionado, I'm in full agreement that good rum is also worth our attention.

I met Kenny at a whiskyfestival, as these things go. Each of their whisky bottlings I got to taste have been good to excellent so I’d love to try their rums too as this indeed seems like a wonderful dram. Releasing good quality products is the best guarantee the small businesses have for longevity as they need the word of mouth recommendation if they want to avoid their bottles gathering dust on store shelves. As much as I respect Carn mor for their quality releases, that law suit was absolutely despicable and below the belt to say the least. Good of you to mention it Ralfy and pay some attention to the smaller companies out there. Cheers

Hey, I don't like rums - even if they're high quality, and your excellent review does not not persuade me to rush out and buy - because I just know that rum ist't for me. Much prefer cognac as a malternative. But, I like watching your content nonetheless.

Rum is my favourite spirit, next to whisky! I got my hands on a bottle of Foursquare years ago, but it is notoriously hard to find here. A month ago I bought a bottle of Doorly's 12 year old. It should be good!

Would love to hear you taste and discuss a whiskey product called “Dovetail” by the American independent whiskey bottler Barrel Craft Spirits. It’s a blend of straight bourbon whiskeys finished in a combination of Guyanese Demerara rum, port, and Cabernet casks and bottled at cask strength. A truly unique drink. I can sit with a glass and pick apart the different notes as they develop in the glass for hours.

Thank you for rum video. In our Czech Republic is rum very favorite spirit. But most of us transferred from rum to drink single malt whisky because whisky has more taste choices…Rum can be a little bit simple with sweet taste and all rums has a similar profile….But I think we can return back to rum time to time. I think rums with higher abv can be interesting.

I was fortunate enough to visit another Caribbean distillery a couple of years back Ralfy; went by the name of River Antoine Estate, St. Patrick's on the lovely island of Grenada. OK.....I admit that I was on honeymoon, but when in Rome eh? An interesting insight into rum production and I was pleased to see that they were still running off water power and that the water-wheel was manufactured by a company in Derby - how's that for a rum fact? Review great as always Malt Maestro.

armagnacs are kinda the hidden treasure of aged spirits... check out labiette castille xo, pretty great and not expensive. ten year old tariquet is deliciously spicy. I only wish they would bottle at higher strength more often, same with cognacs. cognac distillers need ease on the sugar too, which doesn't seem to be as much of a problem in armagnacs.
@TasmaniaIsAHole3 жыл бұрын
@@toolthoughts Yeah I sometimes look around for cask strength armagnacs but they're incredibly hard to find in Australia. They usually have quite good prices on them though as they haven't been hit with the whisky inflation stick (yet).

Hello, comrade Ralfy. I have one question which might seem rather laic and naiv but i am a person who has almost zero experience in rum, so please, tell me why don't you add water in it as you do with whiskies some of which are much weaker? 60 degrees is a tough beverage, right.

Here in the USA, interesting rums from e.g. Martinique have mostly disappeared from liquor store shelves. Why? They’ve been displaced by flavored rums, starting with spiced but now every flavor one can imagine. I can get hundreds of flavored rums at the biggest liquor store in the area but only a few dozen unusual rums that are under $50…

You've got it the wrong way round with the abv, tropically matured rums will have a much higher abv after time then European aged ones, it's not the temperature it's the humidity. Foursquare usually drops 0.5-1% abv a year, it looses water as well as abv. It's not unusual to get well aged tropical rums well over 60% abv. In Scotland the abv drops a lot more.

Unfortunately I don't agree that your suggestion is an alternative, maybe for the next week or so, but within the week it will be sold out. Also strange that hardly any of their range is available to buy in the UK, after a decent look around there seems to be very low stock of a caol ila and thats in online, but plenty from various EU stockists? I wonder why that is,.
