A massive thank you, Dave, for documenting this. I had great expectations for how this build would turn out as I am about to invest in a G310gs myself and as funds allow, I shall be adding the RR kit. Even at this ‘beta’ stage the transformation is really impressive, and irrespective of the anticipation of an offering by the great ‘orange’ in this class, this bike is a game changer for adventure riding. I hope we’ll be hearing more of The A team and their adventures on the channel.

I have the G310 GS, fitted with some of the mods from the Rally Raid kit (bash plate, radiator protection, bar riser, TKC-80 tires). Another item (in addition to the suspension upgrade and spoked wheels) that I regard as essential for this motorcycle is a gearing modification. The stock version just does not have the low-end torque that you need for enduro/single track. I hear that dropping a tooth on the counter-sprocket works wonders.
@MotorcycleAdventureDirtbikeTV3 жыл бұрын

Glad to see more ADV bikes in the light-to-mid weight and power range being offered. Would imagine most ADV riders dread dropping a 500 pound (unladen) rig in the bush, so don't venture off-road as much as they'd like. Would like to know what the OEM bike weighs compared to the RR kit rig. The single trail these tackled in their shake-down run looked pretty challenging -- more so than what would be attempted on a BDR or TAT-type route in the USA, at least. But great to know the RR set-up took it in stride.

Just learned about this bike recently and it would possibly be my entry into adventure-riding. But the list of things fitted to this bike... damn. I am sure they are good. But I just visited the website of Rally Raid, just for shits 'n giggles and added all this stuff to the cart and I might even have missed some things. And it's close to £5.900! That is not much south of what I have seen the whole bike cost new. And that is in my country. I am sure the bike is cheaper in other countries in europe, meaning the bike is fitted and decked out with upgrades worth the same as the whole bike itself.

Nice. But why upgrade two bikes? Throw on a set of off-road tires on a stock bike and directly compare with the fully upgraded bike. See if the pricy upgrades are worth the expense.
@yodapig6 жыл бұрын
Hi Voir - this was not designed to be a comparison test - rather it was a shake-down of the pre-production parts prior to going on sale. By preparing two identical bikes, you can see if any failure was a one-off due to misfortune, or potentially a weak spot. Similarly, Adam and Amy were riding together over along-distance multi-terrain event, so it was only fair they were on similar performing machines (much as you might consider if a pair of you were riding around the world together). In addition Amy will be continuing her travels across Asia later this summer, while the 2nd bike will remain in Australia for long-term testing and press demos etc.

just curious, how many if any engine or electrical issues have you guys come across with this bike? Issues not relating to any of the mods or upgrades you guys have done. Reason i ask is because i recently purchased this bike new, put 500 miles on it and it started giving me shifting issues. Mechanic at dealer said it looked and felt like it was gonna need a new transmission. I really like the bike and had many plans to upgrade parts via Rally Raid. Im torn between keeping it or upgrading to a F850GS. I came across a forum where other people have had issues ranging from transmissions to wiring harnesses. The suspension is LEVEL 2 (+20mm travel). The wheels are the same size for either suspension kit, as the bike comes standard with a 19" front wheel (unlike the Honda CB500X, that needs the LEVEL 2 suspension to fit the larger front wheel) - the rear is 17", and they are a direct replacement for the standard cast wheels - including all the original brakes, ABS sensors and cush-drive.

I kept wondering why? Why not just buy a KTM 500 or something with good dirt suspenders rather than go to all this trouble. But then I realized, this bike has a much lower seat height than almost any other adventure bike. That's really the key. So many riders just can't deal with high seats. I don't mind having to do suspenders, but having to replace the wheels, and it really needs wire wheels, that's a pretty expensive change to have to make. Good on Rally Raid, but maybe BMW needs a true rally version of this . . . ?

Great Video guy's. Questions, 1) Is Amy doing any videos on her travels? eg like Lyndon Poskitt. Would be interesting to see how the bike goes on her trip. 2) Been following Rally Raid's posts on the GS310, and just wondering how much extra cost the modifications will add to the initial cost of the bike, is it going to be price competitive against other adventure bikes?
@petergoddard19606 жыл бұрын
John from Rally Raid posted a couple of prices on the forum yesterday, but we can expect the full price list by the end of March. As to price comparison, there's a lot more variables other than price to weigh up. A full RR kit is likely to add well over two grand to the cost of the bike if all the options are installed. That having been said, the bike will still be lighter and more capable on tougher trails than anything else out there. Even if KTM release a 390 Adventure (which is widely postulated) it's not currently to market, and it won't have a suspension to match the bespoke Tractive upgrades that come with the RR kit. It almost certainly will be more expensive than the G310GS too.
