Beyond the damage, beamng's physics just feel right. Many racing games feel like the cars are artificially glued to the racing surface. if the car's weight transfer is artificial the driving doesn't feel right. Because this game is all about object physics, they just drive right. The key to racing on dirt is weight transfer and that delayed reaction until the tire bites. The tire feel and slip to grip also right, and yes, that floaty feeling of using gravel tires on tarmac is spot on. Dirt fish's biggest tip in rallying is 'lift, turn, wait.' lifting shifts weight forward, turning gets the input to the car, then you have to wait for the weight to shift and tires to grip. That also works here.
@AdolfoWWolf7 ай бұрын
It is true, everybody tends to just pay attention to the damage model, but even the camera motion in the cockpit view, feels very natural, the suspension travel and body roll with the terrain also feels much better here than in any Rally sim, so yeah, this game could be turned into a incredible racing and rallying sim.

I think the biggest problem with doing rally in Beam is that it makes other rally sims feel like they're missing something. Circuit racing is a little different, since plenty of sims do a decent enough job at simulating chassis flex without resorting to soft body physics. But going fast on dirt and rough surfaces, getting a feeling for how much you're straining the chassis is such an important aspect of the simulation that you need to feel in order to judge your pace, and there's nothing that comes close to doing that as well as Beam does.

There is few more things that make it great. Maps are open, this allows to create rally with road sections and service parks. Its MP with a mod so everybody can be at that rally "physically" and not just numbers and names on a timeboard. Then you can get out of your car and have a (little bit silly looking) character so you can talk / interact with others on the service park as a "physical" character outside the car or the best part, while someone is on stage rest can stand road side as spectators and the driver sees them as characters roadside cheering. It also feel amazing to spectate. These things makes it also super immersive

The potential beamng has is insane! It's simulation is fantastic! The physics are so close. Grip levels need some slight adjustments but for me it's the pinnacle. I love the feel of risk. You cock up you genuinely damage you car that heavily affects how it drives and that I love

that was awesome when you just RIPPED the front bumper off the car after the crash. Felt like a next level moment in a game. Love seeing the chase cam too, i think it makes it a bit easier to watch on a video

BeamNG needs a "Helping Hands" mod, where a bunch of NPC snowmen appear out of nowhere to push your car back on to its wheels or up a hill. That's the kind of realism we need.

7:10 tip for doing roadside repairs with the node grabber, while dragging a node you can middle click on another node to weld them together. So you won't have to flail the car around trying to rip the hood off if it's blocking your view, just weld it shut :P

Hell yeah, I've been pushing this as the best rally game for a while now. Ever since that one update a while back when traction started to feel way more realistic. Had some great times doing a ported version of Pikes Peak once that change was in.

Brother. I sold my g27 a long time (dont ask about my regret). I had one loaned by a friend the end of last year, never played Beam until that moment with a wheel... man, what a joy! The most fun I had in years on a simulator/game. Played a lot of games/sims in the past. Beam is the best, period. I had a lot of fun doing rally stages, I just wanted to have a handbrake.

The likely reason that the cars feel too fragile is that while the vehicles themselves have soft-body physics, the environment they are in does not - I can ram a Semi truck into a light pole and it will not move, which is quite understandably unrealistic. A lot of the impacts that we see end a car in beam don't happen because there is no computer out there that can handle the added stress.
@KomodoPrazision4209 ай бұрын
I feel like a lot of people underestimate beam as a entry level car "game". I bought Beam many years ago while I was still in middle school and even to this day sometimes I have a great deal of fun just loading it up, spawning a very shitty shitbox, and sending it around the dirt in utah at whatever speed the suspension allows, all with mouse and key.
@speedfreak249 ай бұрын
My friends and I also do drifting and touge racing in beam, it's so much fun with the added risk

holy wow, the fact that the stage was longer than the video be over 10 minutes shows how gruelling it really was
@DrPizzle8 ай бұрын
I can tell you the reason it feels so different to other titles. "damage model" is almost a misnomer when comparing it to other sims, for the same reason that people don't take beam as seriously. The damage model is just a set of nodes and beams with specific tensions and weights etc. The same system that determines how much the hood bends also determines how much the suspension deflects. This is why they can effect eachother- the beams and nodes in the suspension can actually be bent or break realistically, causing changes to the handling. It's all one system. No other game does this to my knowledge besides maybe rigs of rods.
