Patty was always one of my favorites, so it was really exciting to see that Chris Stapleton was able to get her to perform with him last year for the Kentucky Rising fundraiser for flood victims. She said it's been a while, but she couldn't say no when Chris asked her. They did a wonderful rendition of her songs "You Don't Even Know Who I am" and "You'll Never Leave Harlan Alive". They also did "You'll Never Leave Harlan Alive" at the 2022 CMA Awards. That is the best of both worlds to have those two performing together. Patty hasn't lost anything vocally.

Love this song. They are incredible together. There are so many great female country singers, that sometimes it seems like the remarkable Patty Loveless gets lost in the shuffle when people are listing those female singers. But her name belongs up there with Dolly and Reba and Patsy Cline. Patty suggestions: "How Can I Help You Say Goodbye" "You Don’t Even Know Who I Am" (An amazing song that a lot of people can relate to, I think) "Blame It On Your Heart"

Hi guys. What a historic blend of bluegrass talent. I am leaving a link (mostly because I don't remember if I already have). It is a live performance of Patty and her band from a PBS show that Ricky Skaggs was hosting.. The particular song is called Daniel Prayed. She is joined by special guest Ricky Skaggs playing manolin and singing harmony with her. Also one of her bandmembers (Carmela Ramsey) who you have heard singing harmony on Never Leave Harlan Alive singing on this one too. Oh and as an extra added bonus, they were searching for someone to play the stand-up bass (I guess someone got sick??) Anyway another performer who at some point in the show also did a song or two said yeah I've got you. So her bass player on the song is Vince Gill. Nice to have friends huh?? Enjoy it!!!!! kzbin.info/www/bejne/anOvqIiEf66IsJo

Projection is right. First saw Ralph live in 2006 at a small venue in Kentucky. He wasn't feeling well (a cold or flu), so he had to cut his time on stage short that night, but he still pushed me over with his pipes for that 40 minutes or so. Ralph II ended up picking up the slack. Saw him later that year in Minneapolis when he was feeling better, and he kicked ass for two hours on stage, plus did two hours at the autograph table afterwards. Got to thank him that night for An Evening Long Ago (Ralph & Carters live in studio 1956 masterpiece) and he signed my CD cover art for that album, plus a couple others.

“Pretty Polly” is a murder ballad that originated in the mid 1700s in the British Isles and was brought over to eastern Canada and the central Appalachia region by Scots- Irish and English settlers. Pretty Polly and other traditional murder ballads are the basis for Appalachian or Mountain music that serves as the foundation for many genres of American music including country, bluegrass, blues , jazz, rock etc. Bascome Lamar Lunsford, a lawyer, folklorist and traditional mountain music artist and Leslie Riddle, a black Appalachian musician along with others traversed the hills and hollows of Western North Carolina, East Tennessee, Southwestern Virginia and Eastern Kentucky to collect and record as many traditional mountain songs as possible. Their efforts eventually led to the 1927 Bristol Sessions (Bristol, Virginia - Tennessee) and the first recordings of these songs.

I had the distinct pleasure of getting to meet Ralph at church in the hills around the WV/KY line. You might have heard Ralph's O' Death and there is no denying the powerful force of his delivery, but it is a different experience altogether when you he hits you with this live at a funeral. That could give you chills that will last all day. It was a sad day when we lost him.
