Ram 1500 TRX - History, Major Flaws, & Why It Got Cancelled (2021-2024)

Today we are looking at the beastly Ram 1500 TRX! It was introduced in 2021, fulfilling the destiny of the 2016 TRX concept. Ram had put a Viper V10 in the older SRT-10, and now the stuck a 6.2L supercharged Hemi V8 engine (from a Hellcat) under the hood. The TRX beefed up from a regular 1500 truck, with unbelievable performance and capability. Unfortunately, it was short lived, around from just 2021 to 2024 before being discontinued. This gas-guzzling monster will live on in the hearts of Mopar fans as an outrageous and legendary truck.

Dodge/Ram always made some good trucks, but for the past decade or so, especially with the Cummins, hemis and trx, they established a great brand image as both hard working and fun machines. I desperately hope that dodge/ram can hold on as they move forward into the era of hurricane engines.

Working at a dealership these trucks have been very reliable the only problems I’ve seen so far are the normal 2018+ ram issues such as corrosion in the rear wiring harness

First production of the truck. But a lot of the problems stem from the lack of QC in at the plant because of Covid. That's not an excuse, though.

Great tribute video. The only things you missed in your video was referencing the original Dodge Ram 6x6 T Rex concept that is also part of the reason for the TRX name. Not just, to poke the Raptor. The only other issue you missed was the major complaint a lot of TRX fans have is that no 2 door short bed version was ever made. People complained so much about it, there is an aftermarket company modifying them into 2 doors now. You also neglected to mention the 6x6 custom aftermarket model and some aftermarket supercharging for over 1,000hp you can get too. We all understand why they are killing a hot, desirable and profitable truck. However, I don't think stellantus understands how much more money they will lose from not building what people want. I expect all divisions of Chrysler to suffer either so bad, that they will bring these vehicles back or they will join Plymouth in the big parking lot up in the sky. They should just take the hit on the fines, add some of the cost to the customer, and run marketing campaigns explaining why the government is forcing them to be more expensive and discontinued. It will result in the customers anger transferring from the car company to the government where it belongs. Any automaker still committed to building these vehicles like Ford will be raking in the cash selling these. I don't like Ford, but I might have to consider them if they are the last brand building V8 trucks. Even loyal American buyers would be forced to consider an import brand if it has a more American look and a V8. I have no doubt that big import brands like Toyota are secretly looking to cash in this.

I got the 2023 Havoc edition. Apparently Dodge has gotten all the bugs out of this year's TRX. Awesome truck! So, far with 10,000 miles on it I have not had any of the issues that were described in the video. Keeping my fingers crossed I won't have any issues.

Yeah makes sense they would be fixed after a while. Not big issues just annoyances that shouldn’t be there on an expensive vehicle. Also congrats on the awesome truck, those Havoc Editions are gorgeous 🤩

I had 21 and it had tons of issues. Spent several months in the dealership. Traded it in after only a year and a half. Glad yours is a better experience.

People buy without thinking. What they don’t realize is it takes years to get the kinks out of any vehicle. This one is even worse because it takes time for all the kinks to show up, and there is so many new complicated components and scenarios. I got myself a couple of new 2023, 5.7 HEMI trucks, 3.92 rear end, 4 wheel drive. These HEMI’s started in 2009 and all the kinks have been worked out. With 395 HP I and most people have all the power they need.

I’m lucky with my 2021 and have had not one issue probably because my Dealer is very good at looking the truck over before it’s sold .

I recommend you look at the ram trx forum where people document under the "status updates" section production numbers for every single limited edition model and every single option for every single day since the first ever day of production of the TRX. This is better for you to find how many of these limited edition trucks were made. Also 2021 is the only year of uconnect 4. 2023 and 2024 all came with a digital dash with no analog gages.

The worst problem on my TRX was the UCONNECT and driver side mirror not defrosting which was changed 4 times and STILL doesn’t work. Also a clunking in the drive shaft.

The only issues I have had is the driveshaft does clunk once in a while and my catalytic converter failed and had to be replaced under warranty

GM and Ford have more vehicles in their lineups that have higher mpg numbers, it's as simple as that. The north American market can only support three or four major automakers and how many sell here? With Toyota eating Ram's lunch the last few years in sales I think it's only a matter of time before Stellantis could pull the plug on Ram.

At this point there is no more excuses for this car and truck company anymore , Tim Kuniskis CEO had 20 years to come out with a brand new V8 engine, that would have been more efficient and cleaner to replace the Hemi V8 engines , even a new lighter Hemi V8 engine !!! If they can develop that hurricane 6cyl ,then they could have develop a new lighter V8 engine as well !! This company downfall is Instead of throwing money away on all them crate engines that are not street legal, anyway, that same money can have when into Developing a new street legal cleaner burning fuel V8 engine for there trucks and cars as a option !!!! 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

lol some guy brought his TRX into my shop for an oil change and rotate. i told him no on the rotate because i wasn't going to break my guys backs lifting those heavy ass wheels and its so wide it wouldn't fit our racks. he said he had the same problem at the dealership. just so you know if any of you guys buy one of these be prepared to do your own maintenance or take it to a semi truck center for service.

I have 20,000 miles on my 2022 and take it to my local dealer for an oil change and tire rotation every 5,000 miles. No issues. Guess your shop isn’t up to par for the modern day 1/2 ton trucks/heavy duty pickups. Good thing we live in a this great country and you can go down the road to someone more qualified to do the work.
