It might make more sense for Ram/Cummins to only have one, but I think from a consumer standpoint this is bad. Having some real separation in capability between the 2500 and 3500 series trucks makes sense. So then naturally having a smaller engine, focused on less cost (perhaps) but more importantly, fuel efficiency, would be a good thing. We don't need a 2500 with 2000 lb/ft of torque, that makes 0 sense. If you need more power than 800 lb/ft then hop into the 3500, that's literally what its there for. For the 2500, give me a smaller engine, and allow me to keep my total cost of ownership down (less def usage, less mpg, and whatever else is involved). Having an updated 8 speed across the board though, that is a good thing. I don't think this will help sales either, the Ram heavy duty looks stale, and it has the smallest cab. That needs to be adressed at some point very soon. If they had come out with an all new 5th gen heavy duty 2500, new cab, updated dimensions, 8 speed transmission, and a more efficient cummins at 800 lb/ft, that would be killer IMHO. Keep the 1000+ lb/ft monster for the 3500 where its actually needed.

Folks, the reason they are introducing a whole new motor is that when they designed the new block, they reduced weight to the tune of 75 pounds less than the previous cast iron blocks. Some of that weight reduction was done in and around the crankshaft journals. From what I understand the journals actually flex to an oval shape under load because the block doesn't have the "meat" in that area. This in turn causes oiling issues with the adjacent rod bearings. It throws a rod and knocks a hole in the side of the block. Trust me I have a 2023 with the new block and I plan on trading it ASAP and am none too happy that they have done this. I don't want to be in the middle of nowhere pulling a toy hauler and have to potentially put an oil fire out. The new material they use to make the block now is compacted graphite iron (CGI) and best I can tell was introduced in the 2019 models.

I have a 2022 Ram 6.7L Cummings and I can unlock my doors using water on the door handle. They told me the only thing they can do is turn off my unlock sensor. Also I have 12 or 13 no starts and have had to call a tow truck 9 times. The crazy thing it's a brand new truck with me being the only owner. They have replaced so many things it's crazy sooooo I have a lawyer now and have filled lemon law so we will see what happens. If I could post a video of me unlocking my truck I would post it.

I know right? This is why I bought a 45,000 brand new RAM Warlock in 2022 because I knew the prices we're going to skyrocket.

Exciting updates and they might now have the best powertrain, but they need to update the cab! It is tight for larger people inside, the passenger foot area is cramped, everything feels cramped compared to the Ford or GM. Also the back seat has no storage features like the others, or a flat foot area. Maybe they need to lift the cab a few inches to give it more room like Ford and GM?
@TheGettyAdventures4 ай бұрын
I was a little surprised they went with the same cab but when they didn't change it in 2019 with the new generation I think they are keeping it until the 6th gen which could be like 2030 lol 20 years of the same cab.
@donaldvest50504 ай бұрын
Not updating the cab is a deal breaker for me.

More power but that new transmission is only rated for 1000lbs of torque?
@TheGettyAdventures4 ай бұрын
I talked about this in the video about the new ZF and I don't know if they have changed some components to allow it to take more torque or the pick up trucks being lighter could change that number up. I'm not honestly sure but it is something that caught my eye as well!

Shame they didn’t keep the HO options for the 2500s, my 03 Cummins HO 2500 pulls better than a buddy’s ’22 6.7L Cummins SO in his 2500.

Why do you say that the 2024 Ram 2500 6.7 is the worst ? I just bought one a month ago.1:08 pm
@TheGettyAdventures3 ай бұрын
It performed the worst on my towing loop. Performance isn't everything obviously but it has fallen behind Both GM and Ford in my opinion.
@asmrcummins94924 ай бұрын
They need to change the heavy duty cabs to match the updated half ton ram cabs.
@TheGettyAdventures4 ай бұрын
I never really understood why they didn't switch the cab over in the 2019 when the fifth gen HD trucks came out.
@asmrcummins94924 ай бұрын
It doesn’t really make sense. Especially with the improvements made to the new cabs it would do bring the heavy duty cabs on par with GM and Ford.

If only they can find someone to do their suspension and electronics and they’ll have a good truck!

I doubt ram will remain in business long enough to get it to market. They can’t even clear the inventory they have now. Have you seen the dealers lots lately? They’re completely full.

I bought a new 2023 Ram 2500 w/a Cummins I6 could I theoretically replace the 68RFE w/the new ZF 8-speed some day?
@TheGettyAdventures4 ай бұрын
Hard to say, it would depend on if this new engine comes with a different bell housing, potentially new transmission mounts, different transmission cooler.

That ZF is far from bulletproof. Look at the Paccer labeled TX-8. Same with the PX7 and 9. That duty cycle is far from what any pickup will ever see. KW T180-480(19k-58k GVWR) and the Pete versions are the only places this transmission have been available, they are NOT selling better than the Allison in Paccars own products. Looking at the placement of the TCM is kinda scary, honestly.

Does the revised engine go to the MD rear end cam and pump drive version, or is it the Ram pickup engine turned up?
@BrandonLeech4 ай бұрын
I don't think anybody knows yet what the actual technical revisions will be from the current engines, if there even are any. They might just be dropping the standard output version and doing a modest power bump on the current HO version and calling it "new and improved". The transmission I believe they have been working on for quite some time which is probably the bigger news.

I drive the 5500, for my business! The standard output is a gutless wonder with a drinking problem! Having a h.o. with the 5500 should grant me the ability to make some money! The headlights on my 5500 are the best feature on the truck! I could go for a manual transmission for the 5500! And with the new Chevron win less emissions! Not that we need to be rolling coal but the ability to let the truck breathe
