This could save you a wrecker ride to the dealer. Applicable for most RAM/ Cummins with in tank fuel pumps. (Fuse # may vary) No tools required and done with Ignition off.

Saved my ass!! Pulled into a BP station on Saturday night, Memorial Day Weekend towing a car on a trailer. F'ing BP.....gas handles are green and diesel are black. Opposite of every station in the US. I was weary and worn out from driving nine hours and just going through the motions. Sheer horror when I realized I was pumping gas not diesel. 18 gallons worth. Freaking out thinking I'm going to be screwed until Tuesday morning and a half day away from my destination. Then it hit me....you can damn near learn brain surgery on KZbin nowadays so I Googled pretty much the same thing everyone here has and BAM! It worked exactly as Mr. Blair described. Now I'd add that the description can be as comprehensibly done in about 5 minutes as the nearly 30 on this video but that was a SMALL price to pay. Thanks very much for posting this video!

Just put 10 gallons of diesel in my ram from BP. Not 30 seconds down the road it starts running bad. Really bad! I immediately thought of the whole BP pump handle thing. Which my son actually did once. Anyway, learned a few lessons here. How to drain my tank, and never, ever, purchase anything from BP. Even their diesel sucks.

I installed a Raycor on my 1978 Chevrolet diesel pickup. That piece of crap was the last GM product I will ever own in my life. Bought very reliable Toyotas until I needed a 3/4 again in 1994. Total pos Ford, never again. Back to being a reliable Toyota owner, 2002. Needed a proper 3/4 ton to haul my 30' travel trailer all over this great land. Being a retired heavy equipment operator there is no other choice but Cummins. My 2018 Ram Limited Tungsten Edition @50,000 miles has run flawlessly. Mostly towing mile, only my hands have serviced it. Thanks Marion! Oh yeah 😂 still a Toyota fan, just bought her the first one she's ever owned. OK it's a Lexus, work hard save and treat her right!!

I came back to your video to watch again. Jumping the pump fuse is better then cycling the key off and on when I change my fuel filters to prime the filters. Instead of disconcert the fuel hose in the rear just open the drain valve on the rear fuel filter. Use a peace of 3/8" x 30" tubing on the drain.

So I did this because I accidentally put gasoline in the system. It never got to the filters, high pressure pump or injectors. Once I got it all out we refilled the tank with diesel and all of a sudden it won't stay running. It starts and then dies. We replaced the lift pump, fuel filters and fuel regulator, all yield the same results. The wierd thing is the truck will stay running if you open the water seperator or if you disconnect the fuel regulator sensor. Any help would be much appreciated
@MarionBlair
@MarionBlair 2 жыл бұрын

@flagsystems9753
@flagsystems9753 2 жыл бұрын
@@MarionBlair are you referring to the sensor on the fuel rail? I did replace the regulator/actuator on the cp3, lift pump and fuel filters. It runs when the fuel filter water seperator is open and fuel is flowing out of the filter housing but when I close it back up it shuts off. Checked all lines, nothing is crossed, nothing is leaking and everything is hooked up as intended. Codes present are P2509, P0254, P0562 and P008A

Really appreciate this video. Made the same mistake on my 2017 RAM 3500. One note, I almost gave up on this solution and stared to disconnect the tank so I could run my siphon. I switched the jumper from the battery to slot 70 to a 14 gauge single strain wire from a coil of Romex (I'm a home builder, not a mechanic). The 14 gauge provided enough juice to run the fuel pump. The two testers / probes I had tried initially didn't provide enough current. After draining the tank, I filled with 2 gallons of fresh diesel. Truck started right up, and stayed running for about a 1/2 mile to the nearest gas station. I topped of the tank, went to start it and no dice. I went thru the priming instructions (turn to Run for 15 seconds, back to off, back to Run) but still no luck. Not sure if I clogged the filters or if the fuel pump went out. Towed to my house and decided I will troubleshoot when the sun is up. One other note... if your new to the key fob stuff, pressing the start button on the truck (without foot on the brake) will cycle thru from Off, to ACC, to Run. Silly that I never knew this. Never took the time to learn as I hate the whole fob concept. Constantly loosing the thing, while I'm in the truck driving! Yes... I'm turning into my father! Don't like change! Another note... I would suggest against attempting to siphon the fuel from the tank. Again, not a mechanic. But if you were born before 1980 and your a custom to the old school siphon technique, your in for a long day. Evidently, there are inline safety features (valves?) that are designed to seal the tank during a roll over. Good luck getting your hose by those.

Love the content Marion !!!! I am new to diesel trucks, but after suffering a little bout this winter with diesel fuel and not putting an additive in the fuel to keep it from gelling and then receiving a code of P0087, I am trying to absorb all I can about it. The good thing was after the temp got back to the 30's I never had any trouble with check engine light and it was a big sigh of relief. All I could think of was how much it might cost me 🥲. Thought about ordering the service manual from Tech Authority for the RAM 3500, but after hearing some of the stories that you can't print anything from the USB or use the browser to do searches when viewing the manual, I have been trying to watch as many videos as I can.

@MarionBlair 4 жыл бұрын
check this video, I I'm on the road with no internet. Put a hose clamp at the filter drain or it will fall off on the front. The back, I've found is better without a drain hose cause the valve will leak on the outside of the hose and make a mess any way. I now use a container right under the filter on the rear. Permanent on the front, I'm now just letting it hang in front of the front diff. kzbin.info/www/bejne/q6iZZ6WvoLtpibs

@theplanechannel3857
@theplanechannel3857 4 жыл бұрын
Not sure about the blue vs white but you would disconnect the one coming out of the tank going into the filter. The line that runs up t the front of the truck from the filter should not be disconnected. The other one is the one coming out of the tank into the filter. So, if you disconnect that one, you'll catch the diesel straight out of the tank and not have to filter it. Go straight into a bucket or whatever.

Thank you for this information! After a long weekend camping and pretty exhausted we stopped on the way home to top off (luckily a block from the house) and guess what... two gallons of gasoline straight in the tank (probably had 20+ diesel still in the tank). Drove to the house and prepared to syphon the tank dry and refill, but they have an anti-syphon on the tanks now due to roll over accidents to keep the fuel from dumping out. So guess I will purchase that gadget and see if I can pump the tank dry and refill it that way.

In a typical gas engine you want the water to mix with the gas so the engine will burn it. In a Diesel the water will cause lots of damage if you try to burn it. You want the water to not mix with the Diesel so the water separator can have a chance to remove it before it gets to your injection system.

I would drain several gallons and see if I get any water. and if you see the water in fuel light come on stop immediately and drain it from rear fuel filter. Is that water sloshing around on the bottom it's probably going to work its way over to the pump suction so you may have to do this several times but the last thing you want is for it to get past that real filter.

Having said that, the safest thing would be to drop the tank and completely clean it out but I'm not sure it's worth it for a small amount this is just my opinion that's what I would do as you drive the truck around it's going to be sloshed around and work its way over to the lift pump

Hey Dennis, I accidentally put DEF in my Ram 2016-2500 4x4 when it was about 2 years old. The DEF messed up the engine. However, I found out that the comprehensive part of my insurance paid for the repairs that totaled just under $21,000.00 (yep, under $21K). I was never so glad to have insurance. What surprised me was when the insurance company told me how often it happens with Fords & Dodge. She said GMC has DEF access under hood. Hope this info helps you or anyone else that pulls the same boneheaded stunt I pulled.

Marion what do you mean you bought a wiring schematic for your truck? Is this something that Mopar will sell for specific VIN? I really really would love to have one.

Yes, the tech authority website sells them and also a service information CD. Tech Authority is FCA's branch that does their manuals. www.techauthority.com/ I have a video on it also. kzbin.info/www/bejne/mpyuq5WXg9GoaKc
