I actually had that generic phone holder and got so fed up with it falling off the screen, I wanted a really decent solution. Bought the RAM mount with a twist lock base and it's so good I've bought two more as presents for family members. RAM mounts really are excellent. Well worth the money, I must have gone through five or six cheap mounts before I bought a quality product.

I love my ram mounts, I have one in place of my rear view mirror to hold a 8" screen for front and rear viewing cameras, and one on my dash for my phone

That's so funny, I very very recently abandoned my cheap Amazon mounts, bit the bullet and invested in some RAM mount gear for a number of my devices. Not cheap, but I am generally happy with it, aside from a few little nitpicks. Video will be coming, LOL. I will suggest (to anyone who is able to, depending on your country): order directly from the RAM mount website instead of from Amazon...what's available on Amazon is far from complete. On the RAM mount website, you can select from a dizzying array of components to truly dial in your mounting configuration to fit your needs and your vehicle/devices. I wasn't thrilled with how much I had to spend, but I was SO over mucking around with cheap plastic crap off Amazon.

YES ! the Versatility comes directly when you buy it because you can compose the perfect kit for your needs ! They have absolutly every mounts for every devices in every conditions 😂 I'm glad to know I'm not the only one tired of these cheap amazon holders ...

I'm a truck driver, I've got though loads of these cheap amazon mounts, the only thing i don't like about them is the sticky suction cup, changing trucks everyday, i was having to struggle to pull off the screen, and they was picking up dirt from truck screens then not sticking and falling off the window mid drive on the motorway which is dangerous, having to play catch while driving is also illegal, so i brought an ram mount x grip, thanks for the review.

Definitely the X-grip system is very good and versatile ! On my FJ40 between the vertical windshield and the hell of vibration from the engine, starting was enough to lose a cheap suction cup mount... And this is where the RAM system is great, I bought their M10 screw ball and screwed it in an original blank in the dashboard... This thing is not moving at all, is well located (just near the 12V socket) and did not required any modification or ugly thing on my vehicle. And on my RAV4 I simply use the same suction cup than you from RAM but I use the same arm and X-Grip between the 2 vehicles => not so expensive in the total.

I use a RAM X mount on the bike, and the that space on top of the dash in front of the extra gauges that most FJ Cruisers have (my phone will just sit there and not move with the case I have on it being rubberized, Mrs. Small ADV's phone will not) 😜Great comparison, brother (Liked and Shared as always), happy Friday! 😁✌

Check out panavise for a bracket to fit beside your radio and mount the ram mount with screws. I use it in my 2010 foz. It is essentially a piece of thin bent metal that you mount the ram ball mount to. Yes, it's another 33 USD, but it gets it off the windshield.... Great video!

Hi Jordan, X-Grip's flexibility is nice and my current system needs manual (one time) adjustments with a screwdriver to fit your mobile. Actually I use components from Brodit which are made in Sweden. The quality is superb though Brodit is pricewise a bit on the higher level as well. I can definitelly recommend Brodit and it is an alternative for those who prefere European brands ;-) ATB Franz bugikraxn

Do you have to use phone holders from Ram with the Ram suction cup? Are there lower price phone holders that fit the Ram suction cup base that aren't as expensive as the x-grip? Thank you.
