It's time to take my 2020 RAM Power Wagon to the next left and install a lift kit! I've got some big plans for making this truck the ultimate expedition vehicle and upgrading the suspension is a key component to taking the next steps. In this video we head over to CJC Off-road and install a Carli lift kit. #rampowerwagon #fullsizetruck #expeditionvehicle

This suspension specs:
Carli's 2014-20 Ram 2500 Pintop 2.5 suspension systems
This system boasts Carli specific, blueprinted, King 2.5” shocks on all four corners. In an effort to provide customers with the best product, we designed a custom piston to determine proper base flow rates to ensure the shock works well in the heavy duty truck platform; we then tuned the shocks around the custom pistons based on the only thing that matters to us, seat-of-the-pants feel. We round off ALL our King shocks with shafts machined and polished from a solid piece of 17-4 Stainless. Unlike King’s standard shafts, there is no coating to wear off, weather is far less likely to hurt them and if there is a small chip, you can round the edges with emery cloth to ensure the seal housing isn’t damaged as they’re not brittle like the stock, hardened shafts. The shocks are finished with King oil good to -55° F. Note that all King shocks are built with a plated steel body. If subjected to inclement weather for extended periods, we recommend wrapping your shocks in 3M to provide a moisture barrier that’s replaceable.
Your truck will sit 2” higher in the front (cab configuration dependent) with a touch more suspension travel than the factory platform thanks to the taller, lighter rate coil springs. The rear Carli Coil Springs will lift 1” to level the truck while upping the rear suspension capacity to a respectable 2,000lbs.
The Factory Sway Bar Disconnect with which the Power Wagons are equipped works great for those wanting the two ends of the spectrum, rigid or flexy. For those wanting to land in the middle of the spectrum between these two end points, Carli’s optional Torsion sway bar removes the entire factory sway bar assembly replacing it with a torsion bar supported by fabricated drop brackets and delrin bushings. Fabricated sway bar arms and dual 5/8” FK heim end links round off the package. This is the single best bang for the buck, ride-quality upgrade offered by Carli Suspension when compared to the locked, factory sway bar. The Carli Sway Bar allows nearly bind-free articulation in low-speed applications; when things heat up, it allows the Carli Shocks and springs to breath while engaging progressively to provide control in high-speed cornering situations.
The additional front lift and off-road oriented application call for a better track bar to handle the new-found increased off-road abilities. This system includes an Adjustable Track Bar to recenter the axle and provide a stronger link with less deflection for the lifted application. Also included are Carli’s Radius Arm Drop Brackets to drop the pivot point of the dual pivot Power Wagon arms, alleviate diagonal spring pressures (ensure no bow in the coil springs) and allow full adjustment of the factory caster bolt.
Everything is included to support flawless operation of all components. Extended rear Sway Bar End Links, Front and Rear Bump stop drops to ensure the shocks are cycling in their designed travel range as well as a rear track bar drop bracket minimizing the rear end “wag” associated with opposing track bar suspension designs are all included to round off this suspension system.

So it's come up a couple times in the comments and I think it's worth a little clarity. I did not want to max out the stock springs with a full payload because it will drive horribly on and offroad. The Carli springs can handle a higher weight capacity, but the trucks GVWR does not change. The truck will handle much, much better with these new higher capacity springs since I will pretty much be maxing out the trucks official payload.

Brad, First off...this isn't a troll, these are real questions. I ask because of another channel...home construction, seems to be one giant commercial for items going on his personal house. I'm not saying he's cheating, I just wonder... Suspension...paid product placement. What does that system cost, how much did you pay? Would you have bought that kit if you paid full price? Payload I am very concerned, to the point of obsessing, about the legalities of going over the posted GVWR...you touched on the subject in an earlier video. The springs might increase what you are able to carry, but it does nothing to increase the weight you are allowed to carry, am I correct? I wouldn't want to be a hundred pounds overweight, get in an accident and have some ambulance chaser take my home or absolve a person that is actually at fault. Intercooler skid plate Did I miss something? Are you going/did you go forced induction? Or is this just repurposing a product made for another purpose? Thanks, Mark
@TrailRecon
@TrailRecon 3 жыл бұрын
All good questions and some have already been discussed in the comments, but always like to be transparent. Yes, this is sponsored (upper left hand corner of the beginning of the video has a disclaimer), but there are only 2 companies that I know of that make kits for the Power Wagon and this is the one that was most recommended to me. I would absolutely pay full price for it. Here is the answer I gave in the discussion about weight: I did not want to max out the stock springs with a full payload because it will drive horribly on and offroad. The Carli springs can handle a higher weight capacity, but the trucks GVWR does not change. The truck will handle much, much better with these new higher capacity springs since I will pretty much be maxing out the trucks official payload. We could probably do a full 20 minute video on just this topic.... No forced induction, that's just what the guard is called. Hope this helps.

Your truck looks fantastic. That suspension system is definitely a huge expense for any average Joe or Jill out there, at $5545.00 for the pin-top kit and $3050.00 additional for their other options the kit offers. I'm sure there's also shop labor on top of that. Kinda seems completely unobtainable for most people.

Thanks Brad for showing and making my decisions for my 2nd Power Wagon that is coming soon, way easier now. Great content as usual!

I've been thinking about getting a Power Wagon for myself. I've looked into putting 37-inch tires on it with this exact lift kit from Carli (without the different springs though). I'm curious if you changed the gear ratio and what ratio did you choose and why? Also, would you have to trim with the 37-inch tires and the Carli suspension on it? I don't really want to have to trim to fit 37's on my Power Wagon when I get it.

Regarding GVWR, normally I do not support going above it, but with the PW we need to apply some personal engineering judgement. The PW GVWR is purposely downgraded solely due to the soft factory springs. It has (essentially) the same frame as a dually, the same AAM 11.5 rear axle, and brakes equal to a 3500 SRW. Therefore if we upgrade the springs, the sole weak link is removed. Functionally, there're absolutely no issues up to the rear spring / tire capacity. I'd feel very comfortable exceeding the artificially lowered factory GVWR in this case.

Can you or CJC comment on the ride quality of the heavier capacity rear springs vs normal PW Carli springs. And PS I would rather maintain the factory like rake rather than leveling.
@CJCOffRoad
@CJCOffRoad 3 жыл бұрын
The +2 rear coils used in this video are a stiffer spring rate than the +1 coils Carli traditionally includes with this system, so the ride is still significantly better than stock, but firmer than what would normally be felt with the +1s when empty. Once you weigh the truck down with gear though it feels just like it was designed to ride! Those +2s are designed for trucks with a few hundred pounds of gear in the bed (aka a RTT, Decked system etc).

I'm stuck in a decision loop. Either a mostly loaded Power Wagon @75K (discounts through affiliate programs) or a similarly equipped F250 Tremor @68K and ADD upgraded Carli suspension? Cost-wise, it seems they would be around the same price after some level of suspension upgrade on the F250. I'm looking for a semi-smooth ride over washboards and might do some towing under 10K lbs. Advice between those two?

The answer is no, you do not need to lift it. I'm clearing 37s on my 2019 Power Wagon with OEM suspension. I rock crawl and I climb up and through the same shoots Jeep Rubi's do. This kid does not change the clearance. The fender clearance is set by up travel bump stops which are not affected by this lift kit. The Carli 4.5 kit does lower the bump stops 1 inch which will change the fender clearance.

I had my pintop system installed a month ago and it is the most disappointing purchase I have ever made (and I've bought a lot of stuff). The control arm drop brackets have ruined my clearance. You have this great disconnect feature and as you roll your front tire over a rock you have a nice control arm and drop bracket to hold you up on that is now a full three inches closer to the ground than it was prior to the $7,000 I spent on this system. It might be good for fire roads and on pavement but if you intend any real off-roading stay as far away from this as you can. $7,000 to make your power wagon LESS off-roadable makes a person feel pretty taken advantage of.

I would never tell another person how to spend their hard earned money but I just do not see how these upgrades are necessary to one of the most capable off road vehicles to leave a factory. I did not watch all way through but how much did this cost for both parts and labor? For a stock 4x4 Tradesman like I have i can definitely see the value in this upgrade but for a 55-60k Power Wagon I just do not get it.

You know carli is good, because everything carli is so hard to get ahold of now. I'm swapping over, but I had to go with dynatrac ball joints because I can't wait 8 weeks for carli to hopefully become available. Parts are on the way, some are already here. Can't wait to get it all together and hit the trails before snow falls... just around the corner.

Excellent system Brad. Truck looks awesome 👍🏽. But why won’t suspension manufacturers ship better reservoir clamps? Why use $2 clamps on $7,000-$10,000+ systems?

Will that suspension work on a regular Ram 2500? I may have to Frankenstein my way into a PW from a cheaper trim truck lol.

What a cool set up and what a cool shop. Mildly jealous, brother. Enjoy. And thanks for sharing the excitement with those of us who will never be able to get to that level (lift kit, level, see what I did there). Cheers.

The guys at CJC are great and the new shop is much larger. I like working on my truck also but ball joints are a pain so I let CJC install them for me. Too bad the Carli shocks likely wouldn't work that well on my truck.

I would hate it if you filmed me whilst working. 13:20, good to hear that a brand new spec'd out RAM still rattles over bumps too.

Hi I have a question, my son and I just put the same wheels and tires on are power wagon. Did you have to reset your tire pressure sensor from 60 to 45? And if you did how did you do it? And what psi do you run your tires at ? Thank you very much for your time.

Hey Brad, how does that thing steer with the solid front axle, does it wander like a Jeep? And did the lift help or hurt the handling?

Getting new to the truck game, but if you add bigger tires would that give more clearance and would it give you problems if you did
