Best video I’ve seen on these pop ups. Very informative and went over all the details without having to hear crappy music or screaming people in the background. Looking to buy a Four Wheel “Fleet” for my Tacoma.

Brad you should talk more about costs with all the gear. With probably over $250k in vehicle/equipment costs, it’s seems like an important oversight imo. The camper looks great! I could definitely see getting something like this for my small family and I.

I just purchased the exact same model in charcoal after watching this video. Someone canceled their order and I grabbed it. Just deciding on the Ram 1500 rebel or the F150 hybrid with the 7.2 kw generator. Thanks for the great video.

I've had a FWC Fleet on my truck since December of 2015. I've traveled all over the west (~260,000 miles) nearly all boondocking. The FWC is fantastic and reliable. I've never had any regrets - and I'm picky. I'm going to buy a new truck - but the FWC is fine as is.

I have an old Grandby, on my '93 Ram250 Long bed 4x4. Two suggestions: 1: Swap out that 'fantastic fan' for a MaxxAir fan. You'll be MUCH happier, AND, you can use it in bad weather! (Rain doesn't come in it!) 2: Look up Exped Mega Mat. I swapped out my foam mattress for that inflatable pad, and I absolutely LOVE it. I can adjust it, based on how badly my back feels! (Please be mindful to deflate it, when you're driving around, as large changes in elevation (and heat) may cause 'stretching/ballooning' problems) Other than that, congrats, and welcome to the FWC family!

Nice overview, thanks. Surprisingly camper companies have removed almost all storage from these rigs. My 8” 2001 weighs just 1400 lbs and has under bed storage, wardrobe, pantry, kitchen cabinets, and drawers but still has all the same accessories as yours. Holds true, they don’t make them like they used to. Thanks again for the quality video

Useful hint: I'm old, raising and lowering the top was a bit of an issue with me. On my first trip someone showed me how to use the roof fan as an assist. WOW! What a difference - its now EASY - especially when there's a brisk wind.

Love those Four Wheel Campers. I have a Bigfoot fiberglass truck camper on my F250 and also a Jeep ZJ. I have no problem tent camping with the Jeep but the truck camper is just so much more comfortable, especially with the wife. She has a full kitchen at her disposal for cooking and a place to escape the bugs and wind. I am working on a setup to flat tow the Jeep with the F250 to have the best or both worlds. The funny thing is it's cheaper to flat tow the Jeep with the F250 than it is to just drive the Jeep because the F250 gets better mpg and burns diesel which is less cost per gallon. We don't have AC in our camper either but so far it hasn't been a huge issue because we just go to high altitude or north in the summer. Sometimes we will take a break on the road and nap and then it can get hot.

Brad, that is an awesome rig. I love the low profile and all of the amenities it offers. I begin my van life in September and will begin the first leg from Virginia to San Diego. My daughter is flying from SD to help me drive and spend some time together as we don't see each other for months at a time. After 63 years of backpacking I'm leaving it to join the van lifers. I'm housesitting for my brother up at Lake Arrowhead in October so you might see me cruising around on his Custom Road Glide. My sister is allowing me to set up base at her house in Sacramento giving me access to the Northwest. I'm excited about seeing some of the bases and radar sites I was stationed on many years ago; however, I believe most of them are closed now. Anyway, I've always loved your channel and you've inspired me to get out and see places I would normally not visit. I hope to meet you and Marco some day on the road. Take care and be safe.

He’s gone the other side. No more rock crawling for him now. 😁 I’ve explored a couple of routes to build an adventure vehicle. First was getting a RAM PW but having the camper on the aluminum flatbed. I also looked at van options. Test drove the MB 4x4 Sprinter and also the RAM 3500 Promaster. Couldn’t decide on which flat form so last summer, I rented a full size FORD Tribute camper van and set out for an adventure in the Canadian Rockies- it was a great experience however as you can imagine, the van have limited capabilities in terms of driving on difficult terrain- you’ll end end at campsites and boondocking could be a challenge too. Cost also comes into play for both options (forget about where to park both behemoth when you’re back in the city). So 2 months ago I ordered a ‘21 4R TRD Pro (can’t wait to get deliver so I can start my overland build) as I was inspired by some of TrailRecon’s video. AND NOW THIS? I’ve always suspected this built when he picked up the RAM PW and with the suspension upgrades recently. He’s gone other side! 🤣✌️🍁

Very nice setup! The slide in camper also would allow someone to pull behind a jeep in many of the trailers made from old truck beds. I know you already have a trailer with RTT, so that wouldn't be needed for your family, but others might consider if they already have an old truck bed trailer.

Beautiful setup. You'll get countless years of use from it. We currently have a f250 7.3 with a Hallmark. It's the only camper we've owned that hasn't fallen apart. The Four Wheel are very comparable. We see them in the desert of idaho and Nevada. Unfortunately we are selling our through Hallmark. I have lower back fusion, and getting in and out of the bed is just getting too tough. We never planned to sell. Enjoy your awesome setup. Wish we could continue to enjoy ours.

Glad you found a way to get your wife out into the backcountry with you more often Brad! Been working on the same thing with my wife. We were fly camping and our super Cub for a few years, but her dietary issues made it impossible, moved to the truck camper, and a nice overland trailer I built up from a Smitty built. Started traveling the country in a super c this summer, but I'm hanging on to the small units once we do what we want to do with the super c

We had that model for about 9 months a few years back. Loved the low profile and it looks cool on the truck. We had ours on a built tundra...Great camper for the desert when the wind is below 10 kts. Unfortunately it’s not that great in places where the wind blows and it rains. We live in the northwest and battled condensation and nearly lost the roof to several windy days along front range in Montana.. Thanks for the video..

Mopeka makes a propane level sensor that works over Bluetooth, it can be a little finicky but it works pretty well. In the App it only has 20 pounds and larger tank settings but there is also an enter your own size option so I think it would work for you.

I hope you love it! I hated mine. I sold it after two years. Set it up, take it down, set it up, take it down, etc. It gets old really fast. Pop-ups are best for people who go to one place, set up, stay for 4+ days, take it down, then go home. They aren't for people like me who sometimes only spends one night at a place. Mine wasn't tall enough to hang-out inside when the top was down. Perhaps yours is.

In deed how the evolution always goes more comfortable, couple weeks back my wife and I did a one nighter at this BLM campsite which had an area for RV's. The owner came over to check out my jeep/gladiator setup with my RTT. He was a jeep guy and started telling me he started off camping out of his jeep. Eventually graduating into similar camper on this video. After couple years they upgraded again and into a RV. Wonder if that's the next upgrade for Brad 😃

I've owned a FWC. Pretty sure it was just an oversight while filming, but I noticed you let the strap on the back panel get caught in it. On that back interior support, don't forget to wrap the strap around the knob (just above the mirror), and then snap it. Pressure keeps the bi-fold in place, but snapping that strap is added security.

@@mattdalton8149 He has the extra insulation "thermal pack" so it stays nice and warm, and one of the 10 lb propane tanks lasts about 3 nights in freezing weather. Low profile is a pretty big deal when you encounter side flowing wind. But what I tell everyone is--watch your weight. I have this camper, only I have shell only (at 700 pounds) the lightest I am aware of. All aluminum frame, lightest out there to my knowledge. We have it on a 1/2 ton truck, and it is advertised as not needing more, but we can exceed weight soooooo easily--and we pull a small boat. Be careful, 3/4 ton truck is much, much better.

When I lived up in the Pacific Northwest, I would see many slide in campers. They usually had turnbuckles on the 4 corners of the camper that would help secure the camper to the truck bed. They were located close to where the jack lifting plates are. There were brackets that would come out of the 4 corner pockets of the bed or be secured to a bracket that mounted to the bottom of the truck bed. This can easily slide out on a steep up hill slope.

I love the FWC Hawk and plan to order one in a few years, after I purchase my F-150. I like the shell of the FWC, but the utility systems (furnace, water heater, electrical, etc) are old school and I want a more modern all electric setup. I'm considering just ordering a Hawk shell model and having it upfitted by a custom van builder in New Jersey called Humble Road. George, the guy who owns it is an amazing craftsman and innovator and I am confident he'd build an amazing truck camper. I reached out and asked if he'd do it and, although he's never built out a truck camper before, he is definitely up for it. Also, that hardware they used to secure the camper to the bed appears to be rather weak. I'm sure it's probably fine, but I expected to see beefier hardware than that. I'll have to remember to ask about that when the time comes for me.

Brad in a emergency situation say the Wagon doesn’t start & forget about the batteries on board in the camper. They say staying in your vehicle is bad so what is the difference between the cabin insulation & the pop up camper? Les Stroud told stories of people traveling getting caught in blizzards in the middle of nowhere. Sure they were caught off guard & didn’t have essentials.

Modified Torklift fastguns will speed up the process of tying down the camper on your truck. They are made down to 14.5 inches but if they are too long you can shorten them to fit your needs. 3 seconds for each turnbuckle. They also made with integrated shock absorbers.

Congrats! We love ours so far. They are well constructed and tough too. It will be another few days before the video comes out on our channel, but we bashed ours up pretty good in Moab last weekend. All things considered given what I did to it, it held up very well and is fully repairable which is a comfort. My brother has a project M on order for his Power Wagon but I keep telling him he might want to give the slide in some more thought as well but I'm sure either option will be great in the end.

I was going to buy the same setmup. However the max payload of the Power Wagon will be exceded ( The Power Wagon has the lowest payload of all Ram 2500's) once you are loaded with gas, water, batterys, propane, gear and people. Furthermore Those 2500 Rams have a rear coil spring that is mounted too far inboard on the axle and it makes the truck sway at highway speeds. I was told this by nurmorus people in the "Ram World" Other then that I love the look of the set up!! And I love your Channel/Content!

Same problem I had to with the PW. It is still the BEST HD truck for off road use, however it has some serious limitations that come with its awesome features. Each user has different needs. I ended up going with F-250 7.3 with 4.30 and rear locker. I have wide connected rear leaf springs, 3,000 payload, plenty of deep gears for bigger tires/towing/off road. I can install the ford OEM winch later. All I’ll miss is front locker (which I can do after market), the awesome PW skid plates, and the awesome PW suspension articulation (however I NEED stiffer suspension for payload/towing). The Ford just works better for my needs.

Cool man! I personally would probably omit the indoor toilet and shower… the outdoor shower with a simple pop up privacy tent would be fine. And you can put a toilet in that as well. But to each their own

Congratulations!! My wife and I love our FWC Hawk. Same layout as yours minus the inside shower and cassette toilet. On an F-150 4X4 so its not as trail capable as yours, but I'm working on getting it somewhat better.

Great walk around Brad!! I was going to make a similar comment as Bob 😂, wish I had the budget to have 2 vehicles setup similar to what you have with the camper and the jeep. Love the shirt btw 👍

what's great about the camper set up is you can jack it up and drive out from under it, so you're not locked in once you have it, and it really is pretty roomy inside, and you can set up one of those privacy tents outside to use that shower in the warm weather or rinse a little bit of the road grime inside when it's cold out. I'm really impressed with it! You didn't mention any prices, but I'm sure it's upwards of 10 or 15 thousand! I would be surprised if it's not, but it's pretty cool that it's little like a pop up camper, which I'm sure helps on the gas not to drive down the road with all that resistance, which I know it already added a little bit. I'm just curious about the cost?

Hi...great video and setup!, congratulations! Just was wondering if that slide-in camper work with the bedliner installed on the truck. Thanks!

Havn’t used one myself but many say that self inflating air mattress works to fix hard bunks and sectional bunks!

I think it’s best to have different modes of rigs to camp with. Sometimes we think that it’s important to commit to one rig and stick with that decision, but we have a travel trailer for some things and a similar truck camper for other trips that are more transient and hopping from here to there. Good for you!

Sure that's a nice luxury to have if you can afford it, but it certainly isn't necessary. Most people have to save for years to get one camper and if they choose it carefully based on their preferred travel style, that one camper will serve their needs perfectly.

Looks great! I was wondering when your wife was going to join you on your adventures. If she's anything like mine, 'creature comforts" make overlanding a bit more appetizing.

Very nice! I just bought a newer Tundra a few months ago and trying to decide if I want one of these or a nice off road pop up. Have fun on your next adventure, it'll be nice to have the wife with you.

Question about use in winter snow conditions. How does it work if you sleep overnight during a big snow storm? Does it get packed with snow and ice and stuck popped up? Can it be damaged trying to close it after it’s covered in ice?

If your heading to the pnw, be prepared for fire. Was a drier than usual winter and a hot summer.. We already have one going in south central Oregon east of Roseburg. Be safe.

This looks good. I'm looking at this truck versus the disel rubicon but I'm struggling about the gas milage of the power wagon.
