The 5.7 Hemi water pumps are very easy, but on the 6.4 they added the EGR cooler under the intake and that one extra hose makes this job a real pain in the butt.

I have done 5 of these without removing the intake man. Just use a stubby 10 mm to remove the retainer on the tube and be very careful not to drop the bolt into the manifold. Might take a lil bit but with some patience, if i hack like me can get it then so can you :)

Man, I think once I removed the Intake Manifold, I'd fabricate a new pipe that as a clamp mounted so that you don't have to remove the IM the next time. Also, regarding running the tap through the threads to clean them up -- if you don't have a tap, you can make a rudimentary thread chase by taking a bolt with the same threads (Probably m6x1.0 but check first) and then take a grinder and cut 2 or 3 slots lengthwise up the bolt. Clean out the grinding particles, and then thread that bolt into the holes. The grit will accumulate in the slots when you unscrew the bolt. I've done this a few times with bolts like head bolts where getting a thread chase that deep is difficult and expensive.

No need to pull the intake unless the hoses or egr cooler is leaking. I get the alternator out of the way, use a special hose clamp tool to slide the clamp back, cut the tube and bracket with a recip saw…. The small 10mm head bolt is a little work but it’s better than removing the intake.

How similar are the 6.4 and 5.7 water pumps? I have 2-5.7s (one an '06 and the other a '17) and an wondering if I will need to remove the intake on them to do the water pump.
@ReignitedAuto3 жыл бұрын
Nope, the 5.7 water pump are cake, no need to remove the intake. They have a similar coolant tube that goes into the top of the water pump, but you can access the 10mm bolt that holds it in place and just slip the tube out to replace the water pump 👍

If you don't tow or live in a hot climate , you can simply remove the clutch fan assembly and your pump bearing will last quite a bit longer not having to support the extra weight. I replaced mine with an electric fan from a V6 model but it will work fine with the AC auxiliary fan in there.

Hey man Thanks for the Video got my water pump replaced about 2 months ago and install went great. Yesterday I parked the truck and came back out 10 min later to find a constant coolant drip and huge puddle on the ground. @ReignitedAuto2 ай бұрын
That's likely the connector for the SRV actuator. Don't pull the intake too far forward or it will break the connector and those actuators are expensive. The connector has a safety lock on it that must be pulled down first before it can be disconnected.

@ReignitedAuto2 жыл бұрын
You do have to drop the pan, yes. This is because you have to get to the rear bolt holding the pickup tube in place. I have heard of people simply bending it out of the way to put in a new pump, but I can't condone that. I'm all for finding a shortcut, but not like that 😄. Time depends on skill set. Not on the 6.4 truck engine no, the bolt that holds the tube in place is directly underneath the intake tube.
