Taking risks , at least calculated ones , is good for us . It helps our confidence . Even kids hurt in a playground , will "confidently " go back to that playground , once they heal up , if no one makes too big a deal out of their injuries . If you are out in the forest /desert /sand dunes having fun , you will occasionally get into trouble .

Most all my Off-Grid camping buddies are below the sod, or too sick, broke, or addicted curtesy our American legal illegal pharmaceuticals to part-take in such activities. It still amazes me - the amount of kinetic energy that is transferred from the recovery vehicle, into that rope! The truck in the beginning of the video (if I looked up the right one) has a curb weight of over 6,000 lbs. and the Morrvair yanked it right out even though it was practically buried in the sand. Another awesome recovery video! Thanks for the continued content.

I am glad you showed them the difference of running over the rope. I have seen people wrap it around that axle and keep going. Bad. Now a good reason to run over a strap is if you are using it to winch yourself out with the turning wheel as a winch. Totally different, but I would designate that strap as junk after doing it.

Really just wanted to thank you and your crew whom I've noticed offer a lot of support and courtesy to Veterans without trying to draw attention to it. Every little gesture comes packed full of well wishes and appreciation for for the things we've done and we strongly appreciate it. Thank you

Matt, I loved your "Don't Run Over The Rope" demonstration. It was clear and to the point. If I was doing it, I might mention a couple of "BAD THINGS" which could happen to the customer's car front end if they "ran over the rope"! Bent linkages and broken ball joints are no joke to deal with, as you are fully aware!

@@honthirty_ the airplane recovery when Lizzy hiked out was probably shot after this recovery. A few months ago Matt explained how videos are not posted in the order they happened. I do fully agree with you though, Lizzy is a trooper, she's not the type to have a victim mentality. She has proven herself many many times as a vital & essential part of Matt's team.

Kinetic energy rope: 1 unit of energy in and about 5 to 6 units of energy out. They were developed by DARPA. Running over the rope with no strain on it doesn't hurt it at all, what destroys them is when the vehicle is on it and being dragged with the weight of the vehicle on it and it's between the vehicle and the pavement. Another great video! We all love Lizzy!

You get 5x more energy out of them as you put in? 🧐

@@SDScuba it multiplies applied energy. You ever try to stop a spinning flywheel? Yeah, that's all kinetic energy.
@SDScuba
@SDScuba 2 жыл бұрын
@@JF32304 You can't get more energy out of a system then you put it. Its just not possible. You'll always get less because some is lost to friction, heat, sound etc. I think what you mean to say is that you get 5x (or whatever the number) more energy out of a dynamic pull than out of a static one. When pulling someone with a static rope you're only pulling with the power of the engine and you're limited to the traction before its tires start to slip. With a kinetic energy rope the recovery vehicle can put MUCH more energy into the system because they're able to get a running start so you're transferring all the momentum from the recovery vehicle to the stuck vehicle. So if you get 1x power from a static pull and 5x power from a dynamic pull its because you're putting more energy into the system because the recovery vehicle gets a running start. its not because the rope generates energy.
@JF32304
@JF32304 2 жыл бұрын
@@SDScuba you really don't understand. You can absolutely get more out then you put in, merely depends on how it's built.
@SDScuba
@SDScuba 2 жыл бұрын
It's basic physics. You get more energy in the dynamic pull because a moving vehicle has more kinetic energy to transfer. The extra energy in a dynamic pull comes from the momentum of the recovery vehicle, not energy created by the rope. The rope CANNOT create energy. It simply transfers it from the recovery vehicle to the stuck vehicle. You're probably thinking about pullies/gears where 1x of force applied to one end of the system can generate 5x the force on the other end but that's different than how dynamic ropes work.

There's just something good & fuzzy about returning to regular, mundane rescues after a number of grand adventures & special events. It kinda feels like coming back to work on a monday after a vacation but in this case, it's more like slipping into my favorite pair of worn-in shoes. I personally love how much it is just like daily life, with ups & downs & long periods of routine between significant events. A comfy, decent watch that feels so welcoming. Thanks for sharing!

Rule of thumb: the vehicle pulling, pulls and guides only . The one being pulled needs to break at stops and keep the rope tight, no slack. Assist only when needed and don’t run over the rope.

Running over the rope can also damage the anchor point on the vehicle being towed. It creates an enormous amount of stress when the rope goes under the tire like that. There are plenty of stories of people ripping their bumper off when they run over the tow rope/chain.
