The last year has completely flown by. It has been one year since we took delivery of the Ram 1500 TRX on the channel. I want to take some time to review the TRX from the prospective of an owner and share some of my experience and impressions of the truck after having spend the last year owning it. Ram has completely hit it out of the park here!
I want to thank TRX squad for all the love and support! This truck has written a very important chapter in the channels growth and my automotive journey. I hope you have all enjoyed the content as much as I have enjoyed making it.

In Australia these things cost as much as an RS6 and I’m having a bit of a conundrum deciding which one I want. They’re both quite large but I’m slightly more worried about a full-size truck and city driving. I would mostly do inner city driving and I know the RS6 is more manoeuvrable (and it’s an *RS6,* I know) but I just love this thing so much!

@JumpSquadAuto
@JumpSquadAuto Жыл бұрын
Thanks. It depends on your needs. TRX can't tow well or carry heavy cargo loads. Rebel will fill those needs more. The TRX is such a blast to drive outside of those two needs and has more of a presence, sound, value hold, and cool factor. So a preference/desired budget thing for sure. Can't go wrong with either but I suggest driving a TRX if you havent. Might make your decision a lot easier haha

There is some variation in build quality at times but I personally have not had any issues besides a loose coolant hose over the 18 months I've had the truck. @@JumpSquadAuto well, it's not if- they've already been seen in the wild. It's just a question of whether it releases in 2023 or 2024 (my guess is the latter but who knows). Most manufacturers are marking up on hot sellers right now simply because they can. There's 20 new TRXs within 50 miles of me and it appeals to a niche demographic on top of the current gas price hike; their sales probably aren't that great, so there's likely less gouging. Hell, you can ship a truck to your house for $500-1000 across country just to avoid $5-10-15k in price gouging. It will be difficult to get at first, like any other new toy when it comes out. The TRX is $90k+ with equipment... I'll be surprised if the Raptor R breaks $100k although I wager it will be competitively priced with the TRX. The current Raptor already starts $10k less than the TRX, which is a bigger gap than the engine price difference vs the supercharged hemi. Generally speaking, I think more people want Fords than Ram but Ram is starting to climb up there in the court of public opinion.
@JumpSquadAuto
@JumpSquadAuto 2 жыл бұрын
@@sly9263 my above comment was from 3 months ago but yeah its great that we know the Raptor R is coming. You can get a TRX for about 10k below MSRP from at least 6 dealers which has helped TRX sales a lot. The Raptor R will sticker close to 100k but dealers will want at least 120k for them because Ford has a junk allocation system. As cool as the Raptor R will be, can't put myself up to deal with Ford dealers and pay a ton more for 20hp. Ram is working on a stage 2 kit from the factory that will add about 50hp for 3k and preserve the warranty. They are just waiting for the Raptor R before dropping the kit.

Bumper isn’t a strong plastic it’s steel; the rear “vents” aren’t fake, they are diffusers; the rear seats aren’t “crack, fade” that’s leather aging and last forever. Agree the truck needs flaps for rocks and debris or the bedside gets eaten. Overall, the TRX is absolutely a great vehicle to own. Sports car performance, haul a family, haul equipment, tow anything a normal person needs, loads of power, Mercedes level truck interior, and year round reliably. One thing I hate is the chirping from the belt / pulley. Made me a maniac trying to figure it out. Mopar / RAM calls it normal, but it’s not. It’s a small part they haven’t had made correctly and it wiggles under light load. Nothing like sounding like a lion roaring through the road to stop and let off little birdies singing love songs of peace.

@@JumpSquadAuto I thought the selection of wheels was terrible IMO. I went with the Standard Factory Wheel with the expectation of looking for aftermarket or perhaps seeing what would be available for the ZO6. I was hoping for some chrome offerings. I couldn’t see paying extra for the build by selecting one of the other optional choices. The wife wanted me to try to keep the build around $80,000……. Then “WE” decided to go for the HTC. First Hardtop Corvette Convertible!!! I never cared for Rag Tops by any manufacturer. This changed my mind, so $7,500 more onto the build. Ended up I have around $96,000 in it (Tax & Fees included in that figure) plus add on the PPF, Ceramic Coating and I bought the ACS “Rock Guards” (Very nice product, but IMO $528: $499 plus taxes is a little pricey) since the RPO VQK Splash Guards were on constraint - I removed them from the build, not wanting to have any possible production delay. (The Splash Guards even being a dealer installed item.) Bottom Line: I would like to have another complete wheel & tire set and perhaps another exhaust system. Will not go for Carbon Fiber if I get an allocation for the ZO6 or look to shoe the HTC in C.F. Rims. (I have terrible thoughts of Rim Rash, Pot Hole Damage and Tire Machines chewing C.F. Wheels Up from all the sets of tires that people will need from tracking the cars and being able to pass inspections. My general mechanic that I have for all the easy stuff, I’ve known for 55 years, he’s tough on inspections…. He is really fixed on ball joints and front end suspensions. Tires too. The performance tires for the ZO6 don’t look like they have a lot of tread depth to start. The compound being so soft, hard track days will accelerate the need for another new set and who pays for the C.F. Wheel when one breaks? The dealership or the tire shop? Do they start making you sign a waiver? We don’t even have a price yet! CGS252 I think he’s saying they will cost $27,000….. Geez, I thought even $10,000 for C.F. Wheels would be a lot. Guess later this month, we may have some answers. Good Luck on your next vehicle selection! I hope one would be a future ZO6. I can’t recall if you mentioned that or not - if you’re on a list somewhere or not. I got on a list at MacMulkin, but decided a little late. So it’s going to be 4-5 years as I’m down beyond 1650. (I’m 67 now and fighting Pancreatic Cancer. Been on chemo since August 2019. Doing ok, but a lot of days feeling weak and like crap, it’s challenging at times.). So as I said earlier, enjoy your life and do what you like - I’ve always loved cars. I’m not one to be able to turn the wrenches a lot, more the guy to check the fluids, tires, wash ‘‘em and put gas in them. You IMO have a real talent to put out a great vehicle Vlog!!!

Best advice someone gave me is don't stretch yourself on a car. Far too many people I went to college with rushed to get a big fancy cars and a big payment right out of college and when good investment opportunities came by, they couldn't jump on them. Don't chase the car, chase financial stability. Try to get a stable source of income from a job or business and then find additional income streams that are passive income to help support the quality of life you want. Just some high level tips. You are young so skys the limit. I really enjoy this speech when I need some motivation: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qpPRq3SMh79sjsU

@Johnny-xj5qu 2 жыл бұрын
I had to respond to this one. As a wealthy guy, I 100% believe in the saying of “Don’t buy the car with your money, buy the asset that buys the car”. You will be a slave to a car if you’re young with a mediocre income, and it will hurt for quite a while. If you insisted on buying it anyways, you could Turo the car to make income that allows you to make the payments, but expect everybody who rents it will put it in launch mode, and won’t ride it nice and easy. Also, force them to provide receipts of their gas up so you’re sure they’re putting premium in it. Don’t forget this supercharged engine will take premium. If that’s at $6/gallon, you’re paying about $.60/mile. Yes, every 100 miles you go costs you $60. Ouch! Furthermore, if the economy crashes soon, people will be selling off things making the prices go down, so you’d have a bad asset on your hands. I guess this is a long winded way of saying, if you want to be a baller with a bad ass vehicle, do everything you can to be a money maker first… even if it takes 5-10 years
@sly9263

wait until you're older before you buy something that fast- you're not experienced and mature enough to handle a vehicle like this and you could easily wreck and or kill someone/yourself. there should be laws preventing kids from driving vehicles with high power to weight ratios until they've had their license for X years, it's less visible of an issue because these vehicles are usually too expensive for them to afford and good parents won't let them drive their personal vehicle with that much power.
